Trump says he'll call for "major investigation" into Kamala Harris' celebrity endorsements
The big picture: The president has continued to take aim at some of his former rival's celebrity backers, lashing out against both Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen — who called Trump "corrupt" and "treasonous" during a recent concert — in the last week.
Driving the news: The president took it a step further in a 1:34am ET Truth Social post, demanding a "major investigation" and accusing Harris of paying for endorsements "under the guise of paying for entertainment."
He singled out Springsteen, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey and U2 frontman Bono and alleged Harris engaged in a "very expensive and desperate effort to artificially build up her sparse crowds."
He added, "IT'S NOT LEGAL! For these unpatriotic 'entertainers,' this was just a CORRUPT & UNLAWFUL way to capitalize on a broken system."
Reality check: While Harris' sprint to November did quickly attain star-studded status with a flood of Hollywood endorsements, Trump also pulled in several celebrity backers, including Kid Rock, who performed at the Republican National Convention.
Catch up quick: Rumors circulated that Harris' celebrity backers were paid for their support, but high-profile allies quickly rejected those claims.
Harris' campaign paid $1 million to Winfrey's production company Harpo for a town hall, as reflected in campaign finance records, and it paid Beyoncé's production company $165,000, USA Today reported.
But Winfrey and her team said she was not compensated with a "personal fee" and that Harris' campaign had paid for production costs.
Tina Knowles, Beyoncé's mother, said her daughter "did not receive a penny" for speaking at a Harris rally in Texas last year.
Zoom out: Adrienne Elrod, who served as a senior adviser and senior spokesperson on the Harris campaign, told Deadline last year as rumors circulated that "[w]e have never paid any artist and performer. We have never paid a fee to that person."

Trump's '100% chip tariffs' hit Japan's giants, but Samsung and TSMC rise on U.S. bets
Asia semiconductor-related stocks traded mixed Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced he would impose a 100% tariff on chip imports, with an exemption for companies that are "building in the United States." Details on how much domestic manufacturing is required to qualify for the exemption remain unclear. Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Tokyo Electron fell over 5% before paring losses to trade 2.9% lower as of 11.20 a.m. Japan time (10.20 p.m. ET Wednesday), data from LSEG showed. Other Japanese chip stocks mirrored the fall. Renesas Electronics declined 4% at the open while Advantest slid 3.3%. However, South Korean chip majors Samsung and SK Hynix appeared to be exempted from the 100% tariffs, the country's top trade envoy Yeo Han-koo was reported as saying on the radio. Memory chipmaker SK Hynix rebounded after falling by more than 3% in initial trade. Shares of Samsung Electronics bucked the trend, climbing 2.47%. Apple announced Wednesday that it will use chips produced by Samsung Electronics at the latter's Texas facility for its devices, including iPhones. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company — the world's biggest chip supplier — also started the trading session in the green, rising by over 4%. TSMC has announced significant investments in the U.S recently, including an initial $65 billion to build three plants in Arizona, and an additional $100 billion U.S. investment in March. "We're going to be putting a very large tariff on chips and semiconductors," Trump said in the Oval Office on Wednesday, adding that companies like Apple that are building or committed to building in the U.S. won't be charged. "So in other words, we'll be putting a tariff of approximately 100% on chips and semiconductors. But if you're building in the United States of America, there's no charge." Ernie Tedeschi, director of economics at the Budget Lab at Yale, noted that "the devil is in the details" as there is no clear framework yet on how exactly the chip tariffs are going to work. While Japanese semiconductor process equipment markets may wobble at the start given the headline shock of "100% tariffs," the move could be positive for the industry given the number of Japanese chipmaking equipment that are indispensable for most chipmakers looking to ramp up U.S. production, said Andrew Jackson, head of Japanese equity strategy at ORTUS Advisors.

Trump Misspells Name of His ‘HOTTEST' Crush Sydney Sweeney
Donald Trump has dialed the distraction up to 11, misspelling the name of his new crush in an unhinged stream of consciousness rant where he also said he 'hates' Taylor Swift. A wild Truth Social post, shared on Monday morning, reads like part love letter, part anti-woke manifesto and part hate mail all at once. It also started with an embarrassing gaffe. Luddite Trump, who is known to have his minions type out his infamous tweets and Truth Social messages, called MAGA's new poster girl 'Sidney,' before the message was deleted and re-uploaded. 'Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying of the shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney!' the revised post about his new favorite actress said. Trump, who is very friendly with the American Eagle ruling family, the Schottensteins, caused the company's stock price to soar with the message. At the time of writing, American Eagle Outfitters Inc stock had jumped a huge 17.67 percent in value, right after the love letter to the blonde bombshell and her 'great genes.' 'She's a registered Republican? Now I love her ad,' Trump previously told reporters on Sunday after news of Sweeney's political leanings emerged. 'You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That's what I wouldn't have known, but I'm glad you told me that.' His praise follows similar fawning from Sen. Ted Cruz and Vice President JD Vance, who said, 'My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi.' His Truth Social message, however, wasn't done. He also aimed shots at Jaguar, Bud Light and pop superstar Taylor Swift. Trump tried to connect the fortunes of the automaker, Jaguar, to the recent saga around Sweeney, saying: 'On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER!' 'The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil. Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad,' he continued. Last year, the company caused a social media firestorm when it underwent a rebrand under the slogan 'Copy Nothing.' It released a colorful 30-second ad featuring a host of androgynous-looking models in brightly colored outfits. Images of the models, including one man wearing a dress, accompanied slogans such as 'create exuberant,' 'live vivid,' 'delete ordinary', and 'break moulds.' It was announced last week that Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell will step down after spearheading the doomed revamp. After dragging Mardell and Jaguar, Trump then switched his attention to Budweiser and then eventually the 'no longer hot' Swift. Jaguar should have 'learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company,' he said, appearing to mix up Bud Light with Miller Lite. He was attempting to reference Budweiser partnering with transgender model Dylan Mulvaney in 2023, a saga that Mulvaney later labeled 'beer-gate.' The backlash against Budweiser, led by MAGA heavyweights, was intense. Kid Rock, for example, posted a video of himself shooting Bud Light cans with an assault rifle at the height of the furor. 'The market cap destruction has been unprecedented, with BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO FOOLISHLY LOST,' Trump's Monday diatribe continued. This is somehow connected, in Trump's mind at least, to Taylor Swift's political leaning. 'Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can't stand her (HATE!),' he ranted on, recalling the time he declared his hatred for the left-leaning pop star. 'She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT,' he added, concluding, 'The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Solve the daily Crossword
