Swiss luxury group Richemont has reported a solid start to fiscal 2026 (FY26), with sales rising by 6 per cent year-over-year (YoY) at constant exchange rates to €5.41 billion (~$6.27 billion) in the first quarter ended June 30, 2025. At actual exchange rates, sales increased by 3 per cent YoY, despite persistent macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties.
Region-wise, the growth was led by double digit increases in Europe, the Americas and Middle East and Africa, more than offsetting Japan's sales decline against high prior-year comparatives; sales in the Asia Pacific region remained stable, Richemont said in a press release.
Richemont has reported a strong start to FY26 with Q1 sales rising 6 per cent YoY at constant rates to €5.41 billion (~$6.27 billion). Growth was led by Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East & Africa, offsetting declines in Japan. All sales channels grew 6 per cent. The group maintained a strong net cash position of €7.4 billion (~$8.58 billion) as of June 30, 2025.
In Europe, sales grew by 11 per cent, driven by robust demand from local clients and overall positive tourist spend. Almost all main markets in the region saw an increase in sales this quarter, with notable performances in Italy and Germany.
In the Americas, sales growth remained strong at 17 per cent, driven by supportive local demand across all business areas and markets. Sales in the Middle East & Africa region rose by 17 per cent, led by the United Arab Emirates market as well as higher tourist spend.
In Japan, sales declined by 15 per cent against a demanding 59 per cent comparative in the prior-year period, with a strengthening Yen strongly reducing tourist spend, most notably from Chinese clientele, whilst local demand remained positive.
Asia Pacific sales were stable overall versus the prior-year period, as a 7 per cent decline in China, Hong Kong and Macau combined was fully compensated by robust growth in almost all other Asian markets. Sales in Australia and South Korea were up double digits, added the release.
Channel-wise, all distribution channels posted 6 per cent growth at constant exchange rates. Retail contributed €3.73 billion, accounting for 69 per cent of group sales, with growth seen across all regions except Japan. Online retail rose to €323 million, and wholesale and royalty income reached €1.36 billion, driven by increases in the Americas, Europe, and Middle East & Africa.
Richemont maintained a robust net cash position of €7.4 billion (~$8.58 billion) as of June 30, 2025, slightly up from €7.3 billion in the previous year. This follows a €426 million cash outflow related to the sale of YNAP to Mytheresa on April 23, 2025.

Air India seeks bank loan of about $200 mn for fleet of Boeing 777 planes

AI Fleet Services IFSC Ltd., a GIFT City-registered subsidiary of Air India, is the borrower of the loan, the people said, who asked not to be identified discussing private matters Bloomberg By Mihir Mishra and Saikat Das Air India is seeking a bank loan of about $200 million to purchase a fleet of Boeing 777 planes from a US-based aircraft leasing company, according to people familiar with the matter. AI Fleet Services IFSC Ltd., a GIFT City-registered subsidiary of Air India, is the borrower of the loan, the people said, who asked not to be identified discussing private matters. The group, which operates two airline brands — the full-service carrier Air India and the low-cost alternative Air India Express — purchases and leases aircraft via this entity. The talks for the fund-raising, which started earliler this year, had slowed after the crash of Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad last month, the people said, but discussions have since revived and the deal's details could still change. The purchase of aircraft takes place as Air India struggles to expand its fleet due to supply chain constraints impacting deliveries and its ability to get planes from the open market. Since Tata Group took over Air India in January 2022, the airline has placed orders for 570 new aircraft with Airbus and Boeing in over three years. The company could expedite the deliveries of narrow body Boeing 737 Max jets by taking possession of 50 planes that were meant mainly for Chinese carriers. A representative for Air India declined to comment. Air India is currently operating the six Boeing 777 aircraft that it is seeking to buy, said some of the people. Some of the planes are between 11 and 13 years old and are mainly for the airline's India-US routes, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24. Such purchases are to ensure that Air India has enough planes to operate with until the delivery of new aircraft takes place, the people said. The pricing of the proposed loan could be linked to the benchmark Secured Overnight Financing Rate, they added.

Stock markets close flat; Eternal jumps nearly 11%

Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty closed almost unchanged in a volatile trade on Tuesday (July 22, 2025) as gains in quick commerce and private banking shares were offset by losses in oil & gas and IT shares. The 30-share BSE Sensex ended 13.53 points or 0.02% down at 82,186.81. During the morning trade, it climbed 337.83 points or 0.41% to 82,538.17 but lost momentum later. The 50-share NSE Nifty dipped 29.80 points or 0.12% to settle at 25,060.90. Food delivery and quick commerce firm Eternal, which owns the Zomato and Blinkit brands, on Monday (July 21, 2025) reported a consolidated net profit of ₹25 crore for the June quarter, as continuing investments in quick commerce and going-out businesses weighed on its bottom line. Titan, Hindustan Unilever, Bharat Electronics, Maruti, ICICI Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra were also among the gainers. However, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, State Bank of India and Reliance Industries were among the laggards. In Asian markets, Shanghai's SSE Composite index and Hong Kong's Hang Seng settled in positive territory while South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Nikkei 225 index ended lower. European markets were trading mostly lower. The U.S. markets ended mostly higher on Monday (July 21, 2025).
