PM Anwar vows transparent probe into Zara Qairina's death

The Sun18 hours ago
KOTA BHARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given his assurance that the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir in Sabah will be investigated transparently without protecting anyone.
He said the case should not be taken lightly, especially as various allegations have emerged, including that the victim had fallen, been pushed, or bullied.
'Our child in Sabah has died; some say she fell, some say she was pushed, some say it was due to bullying. We do not take this lightly, and we do not want it to be turned into political fodder.
'Our instructions are clear — no compromise, regardless of whose child it is, whether the child of a minister or anyone else, I don't care,' he said at the Rancakkan MADANI Kelantan Programme at USM Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, here today.
The Prime Minister said he had contacted Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure the investigation is carried out fairly. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for witnesses to assist in the investigation into the alleged molestation of a nine-year-old girl by a Bangladeshi worker at a convenience store in Kajang, near here, in February. Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said this followed the discovery of a viral video uploaded on Friday (Aug 8) by X account holder @Negeri09, alleging an incident of sexual harassment involving a child, with the footage also showing a man being assaulted. "Checks found that a police report was lodged on March 12 by the victim's 32-year-old father. He claimed that his daughter was molested on Feb 27. Three shops in Terengganu destroyed in midnight fire

KUALA NERUS: A trader in Batu Enam here suffered losses of over RM200,000 when the traditional medicine and homoeopathy shop he had operated for 31 years was destroyed in a fire on Saturday (Aug 9) night. Lukman Mamad, 67, said the blaze destroyed all the medicines and treatment equipment in his rented premises. "Yesterday, I closed the shop at about 6 pm and went home to Losong in Kuala Terengganu. At 11 pm, while attending a meeting with friends, my son called to inform me that the shop was on fire. "I rushed to Batu Enam and saw the flames raging. There were also loud explosions because the premises next to my shop were a self-service laundromat with many gas cylinders,' he told reporters at the scene. Lukman said the laundromat operator, who owns the shop building, lives in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Kuala Nerus Fire and Rescue Station chief Azmi Omar said the station received an emergency call about the incident at 11.37pm on Saturday. He said 28 firemen from the Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Jalan Kota fire and rescue stations, as well as the Sri Nerus Volunteer Fire Station, were immediately dispatched to the scene. "The fire involved three rows of semi-permanent shop lots. A food shop was 50 per cent destroyed, while a self-service laundromat and a traditional medicine store were 70 per cent destroyed. "The incident also affected a house located behind the shop building, which suffered 50 per cent damage. As the shop and house structures were semi-permanent with old wooden upper floors, the fire spread rapidly,' he said. Azmi added that the blaze was brought under control within 45mins, and the cause of the fire, along with the total losses, were still under investigation.- Bernama
