Five killed, seven injured in two separate accidents in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jul 20 (PTI) At least five people were killed and seven others seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Odisha, police said on Sunday.
The accidents took place in Koraput and Nayagarh districts, the police said.
Four people were killed and another seriously injured after two cars collided head-on near Sunabeda on NH 26 in Koraput district at around 11.30 pm on Saturday, a police officer said.
One car was travelling from Koraput to Damanjodi and the other from Semiliguda to Sunabeda, he said.
The drivers of the two cars and two other persons travelling in one of the cars died in the accident, while another injured person is under treatment at the SLN Medical College and Hospital at Koraput, he said.
A pick-up van collided with an autorickshaw carrying kanwariyas on Sunday morning near Darapada in Nayagarh district. A female kanwariya died, and six others were injured in the accident. The kanwariyas were travelling from Kantilo to Ladubaba temple, the police said.
'Seven persons injured in the autorickshaw accident have been admitted to our hospital. Of which one died while six seriously injured persons have been referred to Bhubaneswar," said a doctor of Nayagarh district headquarters hospital. PTI BBM BBM RG

Priya's family, including her 13-year-old daughter Mishel and her husband Thomas, reached Yemen to join Indian Christian evangelist KA Paul to appeal Houthi authorities to release Priya. In a video, shared by news agency PTI, Mishel can be heard saying 'I love you, mamma,' as she speaks in Malayalam and English. Her speech is not legible.

Two mobile snatchers held in Delhi
Agency: New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) Two mobile snatchers in north Delhi were caught after police discovered they had been paying Rs 5,000 a night to rent a motorcycle used in the crimes, an official said on Monday. The man who supplied them with the vehicle has also been arrested, police said. According to a statement, the accused, Zafar and Afzal, both residents of Shastri Park, were apprehended by a team from the Civil Lines police station in connection with multiple snatching incidents reported in the area. The statement said the motorcycle, bearing a registration number from Uttar Pradesh, was used in the crimes and was registered in the name of Satyaveer, a resident of Shamli. 'Satyaveer had given the vehicle to his son Ankit, who runs a WiFi business in Khajuri. Ankit then handed it over to his employee, Nitin, for work-related use," it said. Police said Nitin later provided the motorcycle to the accused Zafar for Rs 5,000 per night. The vehicle has been recovered and seized. During questioning, police found that the snatched mobile phone was sold to a man named Aftab Mansoori in Karol Bagh. All three accused have been apprehended, and further investigation is underway. UP: SDM in Bijnor gets death threat, Rs 15 lakh extortion demand; case filed
Bijnor (UP), Jul 28 (PTI) The sub-district magistrate of Dhampur tehsil in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor received a death threat and a Rs 15 lakh extortion demand following which a case was registered, police said on Monday. Circle Officer (Dhampur) Abhai Kumar Pandey on Monday said that Dhampur's sub-divisional magistrate Ritu Rani, in her complaint to the police, alleged that on July 24, messages were sent from several numbers on her official number demanding Rs 15 lakh as extortion. She said that a barcode was also sent to her number to send the money. The sender has threatened that if the extortion amount is not paid, she will also be murdered like NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed, the police said. NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed (45) was driving back to Delhi after attending a family wedding at Sahaspur village in Bijnor district in April, 2016 when two men on bike overtook his car and shot him 24 times. The SDM has also shared the screenshots of the messages with the police, the police said. A case in this regard has been registered and further probe is underway, they said.
