InMobi bets big on Lucknow: 500 local tech hires to power global AI innovation
The facility will serve as a deep-tech hub in North India, focusing on innovations in Generative AI, MLOps, automation, and large-scale AI infrastructure, while creating thousands of jobs in the region.
The company plans to hire around 500 engineers, product specialists, and data scientists over the next few years for the Lucknow centre. Notably, these professionals will be recruited from Lucknow and surrounding districts, with candidates expected to be graduates of technical colleges and universities in the region.
This expansion is projected to generate over 3,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing significantly to the state's economy. The initiative aligns with the Uttar Pradesh government's goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2029, positioning Lucknow as a rising hub for AI and innovation.
'At InMobi, we've always believed that great talent isn't confined to geography, it's driven by mindset, ambition, and opportunity,' said Mohit Saxena, co-founder and Group CTO, InMobi and Glance here on Wednesday.
'Over the past two decades, we've built world-class engineering teams out of Bangalore and San Francisco, two of the most respected tech hubs globally. Now, we're adding Lucknow to this league. It marks the beginning of a long-term movement to build a vibrant deep-tech ecosystem beyond the traditional metros. By investing in local talent, collaborating with academia, and building cutting-edge products for global markets from the heart of Uttar Pradesh, we are reshaping the innovation map of Bharat— and this is just the beginning,' he added.
Addressing concerns about job losses due to artificial intelligence, Saxena dismissed recent claims of large-scale layoffs in top companies linked to AI adoption.
He stated that 'AI has not been introduced now —it was there in India from earlier,' stressing that the technology, when implemented thoughtfully, creates new opportunities rather than eliminating them.
Lucknow's proximity to top institutions such as IIT Kanpur, IIIT Lucknow, IIM Lucknow, and MNNIT Allahabad provides a strong talent pipeline for the centre.
InMobi intends to collaborate with local universities to offer hands-on product training, internships, and upskilling programmes tailored to industry needs, aiming to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world innovation.
'Our presence in Lucknow is a testament to our belief that talent exists everywhere — and it's our responsibility to nurture it,' said Shefali Rai, Chief Human Resources Officer at InMobi and Glance.
'Our goal is to create a workplace where people don't have to leave their hometowns to build cutting-edge global products. By bringing InMobi's high-performance culture, inclusive ethos, and deep-tech opportunities to emerging talent hubs, we're enabling careers that are rooted locally but built for the world.'
The Lucknow office forms part of InMobi's broader innovation roadmap and follows the company's $200 million AI investment announced earlier this year. This includes the launch of Glance AI, a next-generation AI commerce platform that integrates fashion, entertainment, shopping, and content to deliver personalised digital experiences.
By decentralising its R&D footprint, InMobi aims to accelerate product innovation, foster inclusive growth, and strengthen India's global standing in AI and deep-tech. With Lucknow now part of its global innovation network, the company is positioning the city as a strategic centre for technology development that serves markets around the world.

'Russia lost an oil client': Trump says he ‘may not have to' impose secondary tariffs on India after Putin meet
Trump on Friday said Russia has 'lost an oil client' after Washington imposed penalties on New Delhi for buying Russian crude, but hinted he may not impose similar secondary tariffs on nations continuing such purchases. US President Donald Trump speaks during a visit to the Kennedy Centre in Washington. He warned that Russia would face very severe consequences if it didn't adhere to a ceasefire after Friday's meeting. Reuters US President Donald Trump on Friday said Russia has 'lost an oil client' after Washington penalised New Delhi for buying Russian crude, but further emphasised that he may hold off on imposing similar secondary tariffs on other countries continuing such purchases of oil. 'Well, he (Russian President Vladimir Putin) lost an oil client, so to speak, which is India, which was doing about 40 per cent of the oil. China, as you know, is doing a lot… And if I did what's called a secondary sanction, or a secondary tariff, it would be very devastating from their standpoint. If I have to do it, I'll do it. Maybe I won't have to do it,' Trump told Fox News before leaving for Alaska to meet Putin. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Trump's tariffs on India His remarks came even as New Delhi has not confirmed any halt in oil imports from Moscow, despite Washington's decision to levy a fresh 25 per cent duty, on top of an earlier 25 per cent tariff, on Indian goods from 27 August. Earlier, Trump (on August 6) escalated the pressure by doubling duties on Indian products to 50 per cent, targeting New Delhi for its continued Russian oil imports. India condemned the move as 'unfair, unjustified and unreasonable,' warning it would hit exports in sectors such as textiles, leather and marine goods. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India 'will not back down' under economic pressure. Bloomberg reported that Indian state refiners stopped buying Russian crude following Trump's action, though no official confirmation has been made. Indian Oil chairman AS Sahney said on Thursday that India 'has not halted purchases from Russia' and continues to buy solely on economic grounds. India, which became Russia's largest oil buyer in 2022 after Western sanctions, faces the prospect of its crude import bill rising by USD 9 billion this year and USD 12 billion next year if it cuts off Russian supplies, according to the State Bank of India. The report suggested Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the UAE could fill the gap. Russian crude is also being offered to Indian refiners at discounted rates as EU sanctions and US threats weigh on global demand, Bloomberg cited data firm Kpler as saying.

TN faces trade predicament following US tariffs, Stalin seeks PM's intervention
Chennai, Aug 16 (UNI) Observing that Tamil Nadu's thriving manufacturing sector was facing a never seen before crisis following the 50 per cent import tariffs imposed by US on India, threatening millions of livelihoods across various sectors, Chief Minister M K Stalin today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's urgent intervention and take all steps to navigate this trade predicament. Pointing out that 31 per cent of exports to US were from Tamil Nadu, he said this higher dependency on the US market clearly implies that tariff impact on Tamil Nadu will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states. In a Demi-Official letter to Mr Modi, copies of which were released to the media here, Mr Stalin requested his urgent intervention in this matter, in consultation with the relevant ministries and industry stakeholders and also assured of Tamil Nadu's full cooperation in implementing all necessary measures to navigate this trade predicament. While appreciating the efforts by the Union Government to achieve a mutually beneficial trade agreement between India and the United States of America and fully support India's position to defend national interests, Mr Stalin drew his attention to a matter of considerable concern to Tamil Nadu, as it faces severe implications due to the current 25% tariff and its potential escalation to 50%. He said in the last financial year, while 20% of India's total goods exports of USD 433.6 billion were to the United States, 31% of Tamil Nadu's USD 52.1 billion goods exports went there. "This higher dependency on the US market clearly implies that tariff impact on Tamil Nadu will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states", he said, adding, hence this tariff has significant implications for Tamil Nadu's manufacturing sector and employment scenario. The most affected sectors are textiles, apparels, machinery, auto components, gems and jewelry, leather, footwear, marine products and chemicals, the Chief Minister said. Mr Stalin pointed out that what was even more concerning was that all these sectors were labour intensive, wherein any export slowdown will quickly result in mass layoffs. MORE UNI GV 1310

Apple watch gets redesigned blood oxygen detection tech with pairing system
New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) Apple revealed a redesigned feature in its Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 related to blood oxygen detection, as per the company's statement. The official statement on Apple's website said, 'Apple will introduce a redesigned Blood Oxygen feature for some Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users through an iPhone and Apple Watch software update.' ' Users with these models in the US who currently do not have the Blood Oxygen feature will have access to the redesigned Blood Oxygen feature by updating their paired iPhone to iOS 18.6.1 and their Apple Watch to watchOS 11.6.1,' the official statement added. Moreover, Apple Watch's oxygen monitoring feature was controversial in the past, as a medical technology company named 'Masimo' sued Apple for infringing its patents related to blood-oxygen sensing technology. After that, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) banned the import of certain Apple watches with this blood oxygen monitoring feature in 2023. Now, the tech giant is again coming with the new feature, as the US customs ruling gives a green signal to a redesigned technology that processes raw sensor data on the iPhone instead of the Watch. The official statement on Apple's website also noted the crux of the redesigned feature: ' Following this update, sensor data from the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch will be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone, and the results can be viewed in the Respiratory section of the Health App.' ' There will be no impact to Apple Watch units previously purchased that include the original Blood Oxygen feature, nor to Apple Watch units purchased outside of the US,' the statement added.
