The National Assembly on Friday passed a resolution to increase the maximum age limit for candidates appearing in the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination from 30 to 35 years, with the new policy set to take effect from 2026, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
The move, introduced by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML‑N) MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, was brought before the House after a successful motion to suspend procedural rules. The resolution was passed without opposition, reflecting broad parliamentary support.
Alongside the age limit increase, the resolution also allows candidates a total of five attempts at the CSS exam. Lawmakers urged the government to implement these changes without delay to give prospective applicants sufficient time to prepare under the revised criteria.
The CSS exam serves as a key gateway to Pakistan's elite federal services, including positions in administration, foreign affairs, customs, and other civil sectors. It has traditionally attracted fresh university graduates and young professionals, with strict eligibility criteria in terms of age and number of attempts.
By raising the age cap and allowing an additional attempt, the new measures aim to broaden access and provide greater flexibility for aspirants who may need more time to prepare or who enter the workforce later.

PTI's rigging claims baseless, shameful: Azma

LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s claim of election rigging after suffering a clear defeat by 39,000 votes is extremely shameful and tantamount to denying reality. She stated that according to the FAFEN report, 116 polling agents expressed satisfaction with the electoral process. She added that the people of Sambrial have out rightly rejected and cast away the anti-state narrative of the PTI founder. She said that the people of Punjab now vote for and strongly support Maryam Nawaz's politics of public service, as the Pakistan Muslim League (N) is the only party with a genuine vision for development, stability, and public welfare. Responding to PTI leader Waqas Akram's press conference, Azma Bokhari stated that PTI faced a humiliating defeat in the Sambrial by-election. As per FAFEN's report, presiding officers duly provided Form 45 to polling agents, and out of 121 interviews conducted, 116 polling agents confirmed their satisfaction with the voting process. She noted that the vote share of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Sambrial increased from 41% to 59%, while PTI's vote share dropped from 35% to 29%. These statistics are enough to open the eyes of so-called intellectuals and analysts who continue to push PTI's narrative, she said, adding: 'Blaming the police and district administration instead of accepting defeat is a long-standing habit of PTI.' She reiterated that the people of Sambrial have firmly rejected the founder of PTI's anti-state rhetoric. The people of Punjab now vote for Maryam Nawaz's politics of service and continue to support it. This seat has always belonged to the PML(N), and it will remain unbeatable in the future as well, she added. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Budget talks with IMF successful: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the forthcoming federal budget had been successful, paving the way for a new phase of economic growth. Talking to a select group of journalists, Sharif said the government had stabilised the economy and would now shift its focus toward sustained development. 'We have achieved economic stability; now we must embark on the journey of economic development,' he said, claiming that no corruption cases had emerged during the current tenure of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. IMF disagrees with Pakistan over key targets, subsidies ahead of budget Sharif also signalled readiness to engage in dialogue with India, proposing talks on four key issues: Kashmir, water, trade, and terrorism. 'Pakistan is willing to hold talks anywhere in the world,' he said, adding that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks were driven by domestic political pressure. 'We have taken our revenge for 1971 from India,' Sharif claimed, stating that Pakistan had shot down six aircraft, including four Rafale fighter jets. He further said the government was committed to implementing sustainable reforms across national institutions, aiming to transform Pakistan into a stable and competitive global economy. It is pertinent to mention that the federal budget for the next fiscal year is expected to be a reform-driven, IMF-guided document focused on economic stabilisation, balancing fiscal consolidation with targeted relief. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is scheduled to present the budget in National Assembly on June 10, following a delay caused by protracted discussions with the IMF over tax relief. The budget was initially slated for June 2. Development spending under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), originally set at Rs1.4 trillion – including Public-Private Partnership projects – has been revised downward twice, first to Rs1.25 trillion and later to Rs1.096 trillion.
