Edinburgh and Lothians slapped with 'severe' weather warning as Storm Floris hits
The Met Office has issued the alert for Monday August 4 until Tuesday August 5 with locals warned of "unseasonably strong and potentially disruptive winds".
The warning is in place for 24 hours starting from 6am on Monday. During that time gusts of up to 60mph could sweet across the central belt.

The Met has also warned locals of damage to buildings with injuries and danger to life from flying debris also possible.
Power cuts may also occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage. Some roads and bridges may close too.
According to forecasters, temperatures will reach highs of 20C on Monday and 19C on Tuesday.

A Met Office statement reads: "Storm Floris is likely to bring a spell of unseasonably strong and potentially disruptive winds to northern UK on Monday into early Tuesday.
"Storm Floris will bring a spell of unusually windy weather for the time of year across the northern half of the UK early next week. The strongest winds are most likely to occur across Scotland during Monday afternoon and night, although there remains some uncertainty in the depth and track of Floris.
"Across the warning area, many inland areas are likely to see westerly wind gusts of 40-50 mph with 60-70 mph possible along exposed coasts and high ground, especially Scotland.
"There is a chance of a spell of even stronger winds developing for a time, with inland gusts of 60-70 mph and 85 mph along exposed Scottish coastlines and hills. Winds will first ease in the west during later Monday but remaining very strong overnight until early Tuesday in the east. Heavy rain may also contribute to the disruption in places."

Sharing the warning on social media, Police Scotland wrote: "There is a high risk of disruption and travel conditions may be hazardous. Extra caution should be taken by all road users. "Plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel. Consider delaying travel until conditions improve. If you are travelling on the roads, prepare yourself and your vehicle for the conditions: • Make sure your mobile phone is charged and plan your journey, including an alternative route • Have plenty of fuel, warm clothing, food, and water in case you're delayed • Do not ignore road closure signs – they are there for your safety • Congestion caused by vehicles may restrict emergency services and recovery vehicles from providing essential assistance • Listen to media broadcasts, including radio, for updates • Follow your local authority for the latest updates in your area via Facebook, X, or their website • Other information can be found on the Met Office and Ready Scotland websites. • For public transport information visit: • Follow Traffic Scotland on X for up-to-date travel information. Drivers issued warning as Storm Floris forecast to bring up to 70mph winds
Motorists have been warned to extra care when driving on Monday with Storm Floris set to batter northern parts of the UK. A Met Office amber warning for wind is in effect in Scotland from 10am until 10pm. Whilst a yellow warning for the northern half of England, including the North West, will be in place from 6am until midnight. The 'unseasonably disruptive' storm is expected to bring very strong winds of 40-50mph inland and up to 70mph in coastal areas. Avanti West Coast have also advised passengers not to travel north of Preston. And those driving in the North West, Yorkshire and Humber and North East have also been advised the roads could also be treacherous. In an alert issued today, National Highways said: "Storm Floris will bring strong winds across the network through Monday with Storm force winds expected for the North West, Yorkshire and Humber and North East regions. "High sided vehicles, caravans, motorbikes and other vulnerable vehicles are advised to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk." Their advice for driving in high winds includes slowing down and focussing on the road ahead due to the possiblity of debris, avoiding exposed sections of road, keeping 'good control' of your vehicle with two hands on the wheel and looking out for side winds when crossing bridges or passing high-sided vehicles. In a separate alert, Traffic Scotland said winds could reach 80mph to 90mph on exposed coasts, hills and bridges. "Driving in these conditions can be dangerous, for yourself and other road users" they said. "If you must drive, you can do this more safely by taking the following actions drive slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts."

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo cancelled for first time in 75 years
THe Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been cancelled amid warnings of Storm Floris, it has been announced. It is the first weather-related cancellation in the event's 75 -year history. Performances were previously cancelled during the pandemic in both 2020 and 2021. An amber weather warning is in place for the majority of Scotland between 10am and 10pm on Monday. The cancellation is for the August 4 performance at 9.30pm. An emergency planning meeting had been called on Sunday afternoon to discuss the latest developments as the storm made its way across the Atlantic towards Scotland. 'We understand this will be disappointing, but the safety of our audience, performers and staff is our top priority. 'All tickets for the 4th August performance will be automatically cancelled and refunded. Those wishing to rebook will find up-to-date availability at Elsewhere, The City of Edinburgh Council said they would be closing Princes Street Gardens on Monday and Tuesday "due to high winds". It comes after ScotRail announced that no trains will run on a range of key railway lines from midday on Monday due to high wind speeds expected from 10am. Scots are being warned to plan ahead as the storm is set to batter parts of the country with winds of up to 85mph. Network Rail also announced on Sunday afternoon that it would be taking measures to keep passengers safe amid the bad weather. The following train lines will not operate after midday on Monday: Edinburgh – Fife/Perth/Dundee Perth – Dundee/Aberdeen/Inverness Dunblane - Perth Inverness – Aberdeen/Wick/Thurso/Kyle of Lochalsh West Highland Line (Helensburgh Upper – Oban, Fort William and Mallaig)
