Fiebich, Jones, Meesseman lead Liberty to highest point total of season in a 105-97 win over Sparks

Natasha Cloud made back-to-back layups to give New York a 96-85 lead — tied for the largest advantage of the game. Sabrina Ionescu added a layup with 1:22 remaining and, after a missed 3-pointer by Los Angeles, Cloud made another basket in the lane for a 102-91 lead.
Leonie Fiebich added 20 points, Ionescu had 14 points and six assists, and Cloud scored 11 for New York (21-11), which was coming off an 83-71 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Breanna Stewart (knee), Isabelle Harrison (concussion) and Nyara Sabally (knee) did not play.
Kelsey Plum scored 26 points for Los Angeles (15-17), which played its fifth game in eight days. Dearica Hamby had 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Azura Stevens scored 17 and Rickea Jackson had 16. Cameron Brink did not play in the second half.
The Liberty made 14 3-pointers — the most by a Los Angeles opponent this season.

According to reports, Netflix's foray into NFL streaming attracted 65 million US viewers. Amazon has also gotten involved with the NFL. In 2022, the company became the exclusive platform to watch Thursday Night Football. And Peacock, starting in 2023, began airing exclusive NFL playoff games. In short, as streamers look to solidify their subscriber base, securing rights to live sporting events has proven to be a smart strategy. To this point, you might recall a report from earlier this summer claiming that Apple is also interested in acquiring Formula 1 streaming rights for somewhere in the range of $120 million. It's certainly a chunk of change, but pales in comparison to the billions ESPN pays for NFL streaming rights and the $150 million Netflix paid the NFL for just two NFL games last year. Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. returns from strained right calf
CLEVELAND (AP) — Atlanta star Ronald Acuña Jr. was activated Friday night before the Braves' series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. The 2023 NL MVP had been on the 10-day injured list since July 30 because of a strained right calf, missing 15 games. He was in the starting lineup in right field and batted third against left-hander Joey Cantillo. 'He's checked all the boxes to return,' Braves manager Brian Snitker said. 'I'm sure he's excited to be back out there.' The 27-year-old Acuña is batting .306 with 14 homers and 26 RBIs, but has only appeared in 55 of Atlanta's first 121 games. He missed the first 49 games recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left anterior cruciate ligament. Since winning the MVP award in 2023, Acuña has only appeared in 104 games and stolen 20 bases. The 6-foot, 205-pound Venezuelan had 73 steals, 41 homers and hit .337 two years ago.
