Care home asks people to send birthday cards to resident turning 90
A care home in Preston is asking people to send birthday cards to a resident who is turning 90 this Friday (April 25).
HC-One's Meadow Bank Care Home, in Bamber Bridge, wants to make sure that the birthday of soon-to-be nonagenarian, Bernadette Seed, is extra special.
Bernadette grew up in Pilling and lived there all her life before joining Meadow Bank.
She has lived a life full of love, laughter, and a lot of gardening.
Bernadette is the youngest of six children, with four sisters and a brother.
She met her beloved Alan later in life, and married him in her 40s.
A dedicated gardener in her working years, she proudly grew award-winning tomatoes and still finds joy attending to plants with her hands in the soil.
Beyond gardening, Bernadette loves playing dominoes, joining in on quizzes and bingo, and indulging in her passion for baking.
Her infectious positivity and zest for life make her a beloved member of the Meadow Bank family, said a spokesperson.
The team at Meadow Bank are asking people to send Bernadette a birthday card as it "would mean so much" to her.
Meadow Bank has also created a birthday wish list filled with items that reflect her passions and hobbies.
The public, local businesses, and kind-hearted individuals are invited to contribute any of the following: seeds to plant; plastic gardening equipment; wool; large, easy grip knitting needles; a foam cushion for kneeling in the garden; artificial flowers; and baking equipment (whisks, measuring jugs, moulds).
When asked what her secret is to a long and happy life, Bernadette said: "Keep no secrets, be happy, don't take any notice of anything, and go easy on sugar – it was rationed in the war."
Caroline Daley, Meadow Bank care home manager, said: "From everyone here at Meadow Bank, we would like to wish Bernadette a fantastic 90th birthday.
"We look forward to celebrating Bernadette's birthday with her.
"To mark this amazing milestone birthday, we're rallying together to get Bernadette at least 90 birthday cards – one for every year of her incredible life!
"Whether it's a store-bought card, a handmade masterpiece, or just a simple note, we want to fill her day with lots of love and laughter.
"Let's fill her day with smiles, stories, and enough cards to wallpaper her room twice over!

They are coordinating with salvage specialists who are expected to arrive at the site early next week. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard has issued a Broadcast Notice to Mariners to alert vessels in the area and continues to monitor the situation closely. The Morning Midas was en route from Yantai, China, to a major Mexican port when the incident occurred. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
