Over 300 undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants flown out of Delhi for deportation in last 3 days
Since November 15 last year, a senior officer at Delhi Police headquarters said, at least 1,230 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and 70 foreigners who have overstayed, have been traced, detained, and handed over to the FRRO, which sent them to Agartala.
Sharing data of last two visits, an officer said 56 people – 25 children and 14 women from the Northwest district, 40 persons – 15 children and 11 women from the South district, 33 persons – 10 children and 11 women from the Southeast district, and 31 persons – eight children and 10 women from the Northeast district were detained and deported on Monday afternoon.
On Wednesday morning, 92 persons – 39 children and 22 women from the Outer district, 41 persons from the South district, and 28 from other districts — were picked up and handed over to the FRRO, who arranged a special flight for them from Hindon air base.
'We have provided them with basic facilities – food, along with water for the flight. We also sent a senior inspector rank along with them, and he, along with the officials of FRRO and intelligence agencies, deported them with the help of the Border Guarding Force,' an official said.
On June 8, an officer said, two groups of Bangladeshi nationals were waiting near the railway line, away from the Mangolpuri railway station, for the local train. 'The Outer district Police received information and apprehended 52 persons, including 40 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants,' the officer said.
On June 2, 160 persons were deported in a special flight. Of the 160, 43 persons from the Outer district, 26 persons were picked from the Northwest district, 15 from Rohini, 16 from the Shahdara district, and one from the Southwest district.
An officer said the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed them late last year to undertake a verification exercise to identify and detain illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and Rohingya.
Between November 15, 2024, and April 20 this year, around 220 illegal immigrants and 30 overstaying foreigners were caught by Delhi Police. They were handed over to the FRRO, taken by rail and road to eastern states, and sent to Bangladesh via land borders.
However, things changed after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that killed 26. 'Now, the MHA is learnt to have asked Delhi Police to intensify detection and deport all illegal immigrants at the earliest. Several makeshift holding centres were built by Delhi Police on rent; they were told to coordinate with the FRRO, and drop the illegal migrants in a special plane to Agartala airport and West Bengal. After touching the detection figure of 160 illegal migrants, they requested the FRRO to arrange a special flight for them,' the officer said.

After questioning him and scrutinising his cellphone details, police said the investigation has also revealed that he offered prayers at Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain before coming to Delhi on Tuesday. The CM, meanwhile, said in a post on X on Thursday that 'Jan Sunwai (public hearing)' meetings will not be held just at her home, but in every Assembly constituency. She posted a photograph of her signing files, and wrote in Hindi, 'When I was in college, my father gave me a car to drive. One day, an accident occurred. I was afraid to touch the car again. Then my father said that accidents happen in life, one should not stop out of fear.' 'Yesterday, another accident happened, but I can never stop fighting for the interests of Delhiites. Every moment of my life is dedicated to Delhi. I will never leave Delhi despite all these unexpected attacks,' she said.

Used stolen mobile phone, hopped cities: How man who stole gold worth Rs 13 lakh from associate evaded arrest for over a month
Prabh Singh (30), a jewellery trader, switched on a stolen mobile phone only when staying in a hotel as he moved across cities to avoid getting arrested. He would then use the hotel WiFi, and contact his family on Snapchat. For more than a month, he tried everything possible to cover his tracks and remain under the radar after he allegedly drugged his associate Pradeep Kumar (40) in Delhi's Paharganj on July 8 and stole over 1 kg of gold ornaments, worth nearly Rs 13 lakh, from him, and even the phone that he kept using. After nearly one month of trying to not get caught, his luck ran short on August 17 when he was nabbed from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, the Delhi Police said. Police had chased him in Delhi, Amritsar, and Jammu before he was finally apprehended. After the July 8 incident, the police first headed to Amritsar as both the accused and the complainant hail from the city. 'The team traced his family in Amritsar and conducted field raids. However, the accused could not be located. Further technical analysis then indicated his presence in a hotel in Jammu. A team was immediately dispatched, but by the time police reached, the accused had fled again,' DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan said. Over the course of a month-and-a-half, the accused was changing hotels, and while using the stolen phone of Pradeep Kumar to contact his family on Snapchat, the police said. Whenever the police would zero in on a hotel, Singh would change cities again, the officer said. On August 17, Singh was tracked in Aurangabad and arrested following a quick raid. 'During questioning, the accused admitted to committing the crime and disclosed that he was under financial distress and greed prompted him to plan the theft,' DCP Valsan said. A police officer said that Singh allegedly accompanied Pradeep Kumar to the Capital after the latter mentioned a 'lucrative deal' he had struck with a Delhi client. Kumar told Singh that he had to carry the consignment to Delhi for the client, police said. Upon reaching Delhi, the duo checked in in a Paharganj hotel on the night of July 8. Singh spiked Kumar's dal curry with sleeping pills, the police said. 'Once the complainant fell asleep, he fled with all the gold, cash, and Kumar's mobile phone. He further disclosed that the stolen gold was hidden with his elder brother Pintu, who lives in Amritsar with the accused in the same house. The stolen gold ornaments weighing 1.290 kg were recovered,' DCP Valsan said. Following the alleged theft, an FIR was filed after a preliminary inquiry under sections 305 (a) (theft) and 123 (hurt by poison) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Language row: 12 CU hostel residents injured in scuffle with Sealdah traders
1 2 Kolkata: At least 12 people, all Calcutta University students staying at Carmichael Hostel, sustained injuries after allegedly being assaulted by traders on Wednesday night. Tension flared in the Sealdah area after the students alleged they were attacked and abused for "speaking in Bengali" by "Hindi-speaking traders". Two persons were arrested on Thursday. According to police and locals, the incident began around 10 pm when Mohammad Zahid went to buy a mobile cover at a shop under the flyover. A dispute arose with the shopkeeper over the price, and the student from Murshidabad was allegedly harassed by the shopkeeper, who called him a Bangladeshi because he spoke Bengali. The situation escalated into a physical altercation. Zahid informed other hostel residents about the harassment, and later, a group of students went to confront the shopkeeper. There they were surrounded by hawkers, intimidated and abused, while repeatedly being asked to speak in Hindi. While returning to their hostel, they were attacked by a section of hawkers allegedly carrying sticks, rods, and knives.
