Nationals climb out of three-run hole to clobber Mets
August 21 - James Wood hit a three-run home run, Brady House had three hits and the host Washington Nationals rallied for a 9-3 win against the New York Mets, taking the rubber game of the series Thursday. Riley Adams added two hits for the Nationals, who got 4 2/3 scoreless innings from their bullpen. Jackson Rutledge (2-2) got the final two outs of the fifth for the win and Jose A. Ferrer pitched 1 1/3 innings for his fourth save as Washington completed a 4-3 homestand. Francisco Lindor had three hits including a home run and Starling Marte also homered for New York, which led 3-0 in the fourth. Sean Manaea (1-2) allowed four runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out eight, walked one and hit two batters. Washington starter MacKenzie Gore allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings. Lindor led off the game with a homer, and he singled leading off the third but was picked off. One out later, Marte's homer increased the Mets' lead to 2-0. In the top of the fourth, Brett Baty singled with one out. Tyrone Taylor walked and Cedric Mullins singled to load the bases. Hayden Senger's sacrifice fly made it 3-0. Washington quickly got a run back. CJ Abrams struck out on a wild pitch and was safe at first. Andres Chaparro singled and Adams was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Dylan Crews hit a grounder up the middle and was out at first as Abrams scored from third. The Nationals took the lead in the fifth. House led off with a single, Jacob Young bunted and both runners were safe when House beat the throw to second. With one out, Manaea hit Abrams to load the bases and Paul DeJong followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2. After Chaparro walked, Tyler Rogers replaced Manaea and Adams smacked a two-run single to center, giving Washington a 4-3 lead. In the sixth, Daylen Lile singled, stole second and scored on Young's single off the glove of a diving Mullins in center to make it 5-3. NFL sets broadcast crew for Vikings-Steelers game in Dublin
August 21 - The NFL announced on Thursday that Joe Davis (play-by-play), Greg Olsen (analyst) and sideline reporters Pam Oliver and Jamie Erdahl will work the league's Sept. 28 game in Dublin, Ireland between the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game, set to kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET and air on NFL Network, will be the first league game held in Dublin. The 82,300-seat Croke Park will play host to two 2024 playoff teams. The Vikings (14-3) and the Steelers (10-7) both earned wild-card berths, but both lost their wild-card game at home. The teams last met on Dec. 9, 2021, when the Vikings pulled off a 36-28 win to take a 10-9 lead in the all-time series. The Steelers won the biggest matchup, though, with a 16-6 win in Super Bowl LX in 1975.
