Argentina Megastar Urges Inter Milan To ‘Turn The Page' After Gut-Wrenching Season
Argentina Megastar Urges Inter Milan To 'Turn The Page' After Gut-Wrenching Season Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez refuses to let a disappointing season derail his pursuit of success. Ahead of Inter's FIFA Club World Cup opener against CF Monterrey, Martínez urged his clubmates to bounce back via FCInterNews. Advertisement Despite being in contention for a treble, Inter finished the 2024/25 campaign empty-handed. Indeed, Napoli beat them to the Scudetto, while Paris Saint-Germain demolished them in the Champions League final. For former manager Simone Inzaghi, it was the worst possible way to go. However, for those who have stayed, it could serve as powerful fuel – a painful reminder that drives them to come back stronger. At least that's what Lautaro Martinez expects from his teammates. Though the road to redemption isn't straightforward, this team has often proved their doubters wrong. Perhaps the Club World Cup could form the backdrop for Inter's return to prominence. Advertisement It's a fresh start, a clean slate after the club turned to ex-treble winner Cristian Chivu for help. Needless to say, the Argentine superstar will be Inter's leader on the field again. Lautaro Martinez Tells Inter Milan to Turn The Page After Underwhelming Season MUNICH, GERMANY – MAY 31: Lautaro Martinez of FC Internazionale looks dejected as he walks past the UEFA Champions League trophy after defeat to Paris Saint-Germain during the UEFA Champions League Final 2025 between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Internazionale Milano at Munich Football Arena on May 31, 2025 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by) 'Every time a competition begins, Inter knows it has to go all the way, as far as possible – that must be clear,' El Toro stated. 'Of course, there will be difficulties because this is a new competition, and there are teams from all continents. 'Therefore, it will be something special. We're working well, even though we've had little time to prepare after the international break. Advertisement 'We have some young guys here who can really help us. It'll be great for them to be part of our group.' Meanwhile, the 27-year-old admitted he held talks with new Inter manager Cristian Chivu. 'I spoke with the coach on the phone beforehand, and we talked a bit about his ideas on the game and on work. 'We're very much aligned because we think the same way. 'He's a coach who wants to win with that kind of mentality, and that's something we really like.' Asked how much he can give to the team after winning the World Cup, Lautaro replied: 'A lot. 'What's happened before was tough, but there's no time. 'We have to turn the page and focus on this new competition that's about to start and is very important. Advertisement 'Of course, what happened will still be in our minds, but there's no time. 'We need to focus on preparing well for the next match, which will mark the start of a new competition – one that's important for us.' 'We have to be mentally strong and bounce back immediately by absorbing the coach's ideas.'

Gareth Bale: Former Tottenham and Real Madrid winger set to front Plymouth Argyle takeover
Gareth Bale is set to be the face of a potential takeover of League One side Plymouth Argyle. The former Wales international, who spent much of his career with Real Madrid and Tottenham, retired from football in 2023 as a five-time Champions League winner. Advertisement Having dabbled in punditry since hanging up his boots, he could now be set for a full-time return to the game. The Telegraph reports that he has joined up with a US-based private equity group which is in talks to purchase a controlling stake in the Pilgrims. Plymouth, who were relegated from the Championship at the end of last season, are reportedly searching for new investment as they look to revitalise the club. Current chairman Simon Hallett, who became a majority shareholder in 2018, is leading that search, and saw a deal to sell a large stake fall through last month. Speaking at the time, he said: 'Negotiations have taken too long and the key information that both we and the EFL required to complete the deal has not been forthcoming. I no longer believe that news of the new investor is imminent." Advertisement The new investment group would become the latest in a long line of Americans taking over British clubs should their deal go through. Premier League sides Chelsea, Bournemouth, Liverpool, and Crystal Palace are all under whole or partial American control, while actors Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds famously took over Wrexham in 2021. Bale briefly played in the MLS, ending his career with 12 appearances for LAFC, though The Telegraph's report says it is not clear how he became involved in the bid. The news follows the April announcement that Real Madrid and Croatia legend Luka Modric would become a minority owner of Swansea City. The 39-year-old will make his final appearances for Los Blancos at the Club World Cup this summer, with AC Milan keen to sign him on a free transfer following the tournament. Bale retired with 111 international caps and is the most successful Welsh footballer of all time.
