Zimbabwe recall Brendan Taylor after completion of ICC ban
Taylor, 39, was banned in 2022 after admitting receiving $15,000 from an Indian businessman in 2019. He had retired from international cricket in September 2021.
He admitted taking cocaine while in India and claimed this was later used to blackmail him into spot-fixing, though he denied going through with any fixes.
'I certainly did think it was all done, but here I am – and it's an overwhelming feeling of gratitude,' Taylor said in a media release from Zimbabwe Cricket on Wednesday.
'I have to pinch myself a little to realise that I'm actually here. I've been soaking it all up and embracing every moment.
'The last year and a half has certainly been dedicated to my return. I've put in an immense amount of work – from fitness to the technical side to diet – and I'm feeling a lot leaner, fitter and mentally stronger. That's only been possible through sobriety. I feel in a wonderful space.'
Taylor has played 34 Test matches since making his debut against Sri Lanka in 2004, scoring six centuries and 12 half-centuries.
With 9 938 international runs across all formats, he is Zimbabwe's third-highest run-scorer.
Zimbabwe's first Test in the two-game series against New Zealand started in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

LONDON: All-rounder Chris Woakes is still processing the shock after England fell agonisingly short of a 'fairytale' series victory despite his remarkable act of bravery in the fifth and final test against India. India levelled the five-test series 2-2 on Monday after prevailing in the cliffhanger at The Oval by six runs amid high drama in a fitting finale to an all-time classic series. Woakes, who dislocated his shoulder while fielding, himself provided some of the drama when he came out to bat with one arm in sling to try to get England across the line. 'I'm still gutted, devastated really, that we couldn't get the fairytale,' the 36-year-old told the Guardian newspaper. 'But I never considered not going out there, even if it had been 100 runs still to win or whatever. 'It was nice to have the ovation and some of the Indian players came over to show their respect. But any other player would have done the same.' Woakes looked in pain when running, but did not have to bowl as Gus Atkinson was bowled by India's Mohammed Siraj at the other end. 'It's not just you that you're playing for out there,' Woakes said. 'It's your team and your teammates, all the hard work and the sacrifices they put in, the people watching at home and in the ground. You just feel a duty to do it for everyone.' He hurt his shoulder on the opening day of the see-saw test when he landed awkwardly trying to save a boundary, but said he has no regrets. 'We chase down every run,' Woakes said. 'That has always been the way. As a bowler, you really respect guys trying to save every run. It means a lot to you. So you kind of do the same for the team. And a tight game like that one – just six runs the difference – kinda shows how they all add up.'

PCB unveils central contract for women
Sadia Iqbal, currently ranked at the top of ICC T20I bowling rankings, has been awarded a Category 'A' central contract as the Pakistan Cricket Board announces the Women's Central Contracts for the 2025-26 season. To encourage young and budding cricketers, the PCB has also introduced an 'E' category, designated as the Emerging category. Two players – Eyman Fatima (uncapped) and Shawaal Zulfiqar (three ODIs, seven T20Is) are part of the Emerging category. Both players are members of the Ireland-bound Pakistan women's squad, which is set to play three T20Is from 6 to 10 August in Dublin. Also, both players were part of the inaugural edition of the ICC Women's U19 World Cup held in South Africa in January 2023. A total of 20 players have been awarded contracts across five categories, with 10 players placed in Category D. The contracts, which run from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, see a substantial 50 per cent increase across all categories in player retainers. The contracts were finalised by the women's selection committee in consultation with head coach Muhammad Wasim. Over the next 12 months, the Pakistan women's team will feature in two ICC events – ICC Women's Cricket World Cup (September-October 2025) and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup (June 2026), in addition to playing bilateral series at home and the 20 contracted players, Aliya Riaz (Category B), Natalia Parvaiz (Category D), Sidra Nawaz (Category D), Waheeda Akhtar (Category D), Eyman Fatima and Shawaal Zulfiqar (both Category E) are new inclusions. In addition to Sadia Iqbal, Diana Baig (promoted from Category C to B) and Rameen Shamim (from Category D to C) have earned upgrades. Saim makes huge leap in ICC rankings
Pakistan cricketers have made remarkable progress in the latest ICC T20I rankings following their impressive performances in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against the West Indies. Middle-order batter Hassan Nawaz made a notable leap, climbing 24 spots to 30th place after scoring 79 runs in the series, earning 569 rating points. Top-order batter Saim Ayub, who emerged as the leading run-scorer with 130 runs including two half-centuries, soared 25 places to 37th position with 559 points. Fellow opener Sahibzada Farhan, who scored 91 runs in the series, surged 34 spots to claim the 63rd spot with 484 rating points. Captain Salman Ali Agha and experienced batter Fakhar Zaman also saw improvements in their rankings, moving up 15 and three places to 76th and 78th positions, respectively. However, seasoned players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who have been inactive in T20Is since 2024, experienced a drop in rankings. Babar now sits at 17th, and Rizwan at 19th, both slipping three places. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, who struggled during the Caribbean tour, dropped 21 places to 86th with 413 points. India's Siraj shines India pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna achieved their career-best ratings of 674 points and 368 points respectively after their memorable performances in The Oval Test against England. While Player of the Match in the fifth Test Siraj climbed 12 places to grab 15th spot in the latest ICC Men's Test Bowler Rankings, fellow pacer Krishna moved 25 places to rank 59th in the list after picking up eight wickets in the deciding Test which India won by six runs. This is both Siraj and Krishna highest ever position in the Test ranking, after churning out match winning spells in the final Test against England.
