South African middle-order batter Rassie van der Dussen have joined Islamabad United for the remainder of the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) X, the franchise confirmed.
'Islamabad United are delighted to welcome South Africa's star batter Rassie van der Dussen for the remainder of HBL PSL X,' the team said in a statement on Wednesday.
Van der Dussen was initially drafted by Islamabad United but later withdrew due to personal reasons, prompting the team to name West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers as his replacement.
However, with several players returning home following a brief pause in the tournament, van der Dussen has now confirmed his availability and will be part of the squad for the remainder of the HBL PSL X, which resumes on Saturday.
Earlier, English batter Alex Hales also confirmed his availability, expressing his enthusiasm over returning to the team.

'Islamabad United has always been very close to my heart,' said Hales. 'They were the first PSL team I played for in Pakistan, and the support I've received from the fans and the franchise has been incredible throughout.'
Signed by United in April, Hales said he had to rearrange prior commitments after the league's schedule changed but remained fully committed to helping the side.
'I was really looking forward to joining up with the squad for the latter stages of the tournament,' he said. 'I'm absolutely thrilled to be back in Pakistan playing in red. Hopefully, I can contribute and help the team push for another title.'
Islamabad United, two-time PSL champions, will be hoping the inclusion of both international stars strengthens their lineup as the knockout stage nears.

Australia's Hazlewood does not want to miss WTC final again

LONDON: A calf injury forced Josh Hazlewood to miss being part of Australia's World Test Championship win two years ago and the fast bowler is keen to avoid a second such heartbreak as they defend their WTC title next week. Hazlewood is vying with Scott Boland to claim the last slot in Australia's pace attack for the final against South Africa at Lord's from Wednesday. South Africa name Rabada in World Test Championship final squad The 34-year-old arrived late in England, after bowling Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Tuesday. 'I was quite close last time,' Hazlewood, who recently recovered from a should injury, said of the 2023 final he missed. 'But I feel in much better place this time around, and I think in any format, my numbers over the last two years have been pretty good, so I've got a lot to fall back on. 'Skill wise, I still feel like I'm bowling the best I have in my career and it's just a matter of the body holding up, which it has been in the last few months.' Pakistan to receive $0.48mn despite finishing last in ICC World Test Championship cycle Hazlewood was Bengaluru's most successful bowler in the IPL but he will need to shift from 20-overs cricket in India to a different format and the different English conditions. Adjusting the length would be particularly crucial, he said. 'In the IPL games, I was probably hitting around that seven-to nine-meters in the powerplay, and not really threatening the stumps as much as you want to in Test cricket, in particular here in England,' he said. 'So, it'll just be about pushing that length and touch fuller and still getting that zip through the keeper.'

New Zealand name Walter as new coach in all formats

South African Rob Walter was appointed New Zealand coach in all formats on Friday in the wake of Gary Stead's decision to stand down after seven years in charge. Stead announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving the job of test coach at the end of the month, having already relinquished the short format roles in April. Walter, 49, was most recently coach of South Africa's One-day international and Twenty20 teams but knows New Zealand cricket well after stints in charge of provincial teams as well as his time overseeing a Black Caps "A" tour of India in 2022. "The Black Caps have been a successful and highly-regarded team on the world scene for some time now and it's a real privilege to be given the chance to add to that," Walter said in a New Zealand Cricket statement. "It's an amazing opportunity to work with such a talented group of players and support staff through a period of time in which so many global events, as well as massive bilateral series, will be contested." Walter, who led South Africa to the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup and final of last year's Twenty20 World Cup, is contracted through to the end of the 2028 World Cup, which New Zealand is co-hosting with Australia. "Rob is a world-class coach with an outstanding pedigree," said NZC chief executive Scott Weenink. "His success in New Zealand's domestic game, combined with his recent achievements on the global stage with South Africa, makes him the ideal candidate to lead the Black Caps." New Zealand's next international matches come in July at the start of their tour of Zimbabwe, where they will play two tests and a Twenty20 tri-series also involving South Africa.

Beckham to be awarded knighthood by King Charles: reports

LONDON: David Beckham will be awarded a knighthood by King Charles III next week in recognition of his football career and his charity work, reports said Friday. The former England football captain is set to be named in the King's Birthday Honours List, according to the BBC and other sources. Other sporting figures who have been awarded the title include Beckham's former manager at Manchester United, Alex Ferguson, and British tennis great Andy Murray. The Sun newspaper said he would take the title of 'sir' and his wife Victoria, a former member of the Spice Girls pop group, will be known as Lady Beckham. Beckham played 115 times for England as well as for a list of high-profile clubs including United and Real Madrid. He is currently the president and co-owner of US team Inter Miami and co-owner of Salford City, who play in the fourth tier of English football. The 50-year-old, who has long been in the running for a knighthood, was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2003 – a lower award in Britain's honours system. Victoria later received the same award for services to the fashion industry. David Beckham was last month named in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential leaders in philanthropy. He is an official ambassador for The King's Foundation, supporting its education programmes and 'efforts to ensure young people have a greater understanding of nature' and has been a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2005. Beckham is understood to have been on the verge of receiving a knighthood after helping London win its bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. But UK authorities placed a red flag on his nomination due to his involvement in an alleged tax avoidance scheme, according to previous reports. He was subsequently cleared. In 2017, British newspapers printed details of leaked emails in which Beckham criticised the honours system and the honours committee, according to the BBC. A spokesman for Beckham said at the time that the emails were 'hacked', 'doctored' and 'private'.
