Have you 'herd?' The King County Sheriff's Office says a pair of Scottish Highland cows escaped their yard.
During the afternoon of March 31, deputies were called to English Hill in Redmond to help wrangle Bracken and his pregnant girlfriend named Thistle.
'Luckily the happy couple started moooooooving and herded in the right direction,' the department said.
Deputies followed closely behind to make sure the couple didn't make a break for it.
'We had no beef about helping as there was so much at 'steak' here,' the department joked online. 'Like the gate latch, this was an open-and-shut case.'
Have you herd? Recently, a pair of Scottish Highland Cattle escaped from their yard and hoofed it out in the roadway. King County deputies were called to help guide them back home. Ultimately, Bracken and Thistle were steered in the right direction by deputies, but not before a quick stop to a neighbor's yard, in search of greener pastures. We had no beef about helping as there was so much at steak here. Like the gate latch, this was an open and shut case.

The Brief A high-speed crash on Memorial Day in Burien damaged two homes, with a car going airborne and crashing through walls. The Kollasch family and their neighbors are cleaning up debris and have started fundraisers to aid recovery efforts. The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken into custody. BURIEN, Wash. - It was another day of cleanup at two homes damaged in a high-speed crash on Memorial Day in Burien. Mark Kollasch gave FOX 13 crews a tour of the damage at his home, and it still looks like a bomb went off. After the crash Monday, workers had to lift the car from the wreckage of two homes. "Happy Memorial Day, yeah," said Kollasch. Mark Kollasch says the long holiday weekend turned into a nightmare after a driver was accused of going airborne at a nearby intersection, crashing straight through his house. "Like 'Dukes of Hazard' to the extreme." Kollasch says the driver first sailed through the sun room. "Our dining room table was right here," said Kollasch. "Didn't hit the floor, there are no tire marks on the floor, it's just crazy," said Kollasch. The sedan flew so high, it also cleared much of the couple's furniture. "Our bed is this high, and he like flew over the bed," he said. Kollasch says the car blasted through two exterior and three interior walls, finally shooting out the other side and into the neighbor's house. "The guy still had enough force to crush their water tank and the washer-dryer," he said. "Most of the car was in there," said Kollasch, pointing to a back corner of his neighbor's house. "The whole corner of his house is gone." On Monday, crews continued cleaning up the drywall and debris. "The frames are ruined but a lot of the pictures we had up aren't ruined," said Kollasch. They also picked the family's possessions from the rubble, which will be stored somewhere else for the time being. "It's going to be our ten-year wedding anniversary this August," said Kollasch, pointing to a wedding photo that was salvaged. The Kollasch family started an online fundraiser to help them recover. "We had to buy new clothes, and it's just hard to even think about," said Kollasch. Friends of his neighbor started a separate fundraiser to help their family recover from the disaster as well. The Kollasch family is staying with friends currently. They are planning to rent in the short term, and may make a permanent move one day. "It's like the trauma of coming home to seeing this. It would be hard to feel safe even if it was rebuilt," said Kollasch. As for the man who was taken into custody, the King County Sheriff's Office says he's in his 20s and was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. Lottery skid extends through April
BOSTON (SHNS) – All but one Massachusetts Lottery offering saw its sales dip in April, though agency overseers approved changes to one game Tuesday that the Lottery expects will lead to increased sales and profits. The Lottery's $454 million in sales last month fell $29.3 million or 6.1% below sales in April 2024, according to Executive Director Mark William Bracken's report to the Lottery Commission on Tuesday. It was the fourth consecutive month featuring a year-over-year drop in sales. The only product to post an increase in April was Keno, which saw its sales climb by $5.9 million or 5.9% to $105.7 million for the month. On top of the sales slump, the Lottery's monthly profit was affected by a prize payout percentage higher than last April's. The Lottery estimated that it paid out the equivalent of 76.2% of April revenue in prizes last month, compared to 74.64% a year prior. The Lottery's estimated profit for April was $74.1 million, compared to $82.6 million in April 2024, according to Bracken's report. Through 10 months of fiscal year 2025, the Lottery has sold more than $4.89 billion worth of its scratch tickets, draw game numbers and more this year. That trails fiscal 2024 by $178.9 million or 3.5% through the same 10-month period. Keno and Lucky For Life are the only two Mass. Lottery games that have sold more in fiscal 2025 than they did to the same point in fiscal 2024. The Lottery said Tuesday it is currently estimating a net profit of $876.5 million so far in fiscal 2025. After adjusting for differences in the calendar, the Lottery said that represents a $88.3 million drop compared to the same checkpoint a year ago. Treasurer Deborah Goldberg has told lawmakers she expects the Lottery to generate $1.05 billion in profit for fiscal 2025, and has also projected 'flat' retail sales and profit for fiscal 2026. The Lottery Commission on Tuesday voted to give Bracken the authority to amend the Lottery's regulations to facilitate a change to the drawing schedule for Mass Cash, a game first introduced in 1991, essentially expanding it by double. Drawings for that game happen daily at 9 p.m., but the Lottery is looking to begin holding two Mass Cash drawings a day starting July 20, one at midday and one in the evening. 'The Lottery anticipates this change will be welcomed by our players and will lead to increased sales and profits,' General Counsel Gregory Polin wrote in a memo about the change. To play Mass Cash, a bettor pays $1 to select five numbers between 1 and 35. Matching three of the numbers drawn wins $10, matching four wins $250 and matching all five wins the player $100,000. The Lottery says the overall odds of winning are 1 in 72, or 1 in 324,632 to win the grand prize. The Lottery had sold $67 million worth of Mass Cash tickets through April, according to Bracken's report Tuesday. That's down $1.9 million or 2.8% through the same 10 months of fiscal 2024. Six kids among hikers rescued in night operation near Duvall
A group of hikers, including six children, was rescued late on the night of April 27 after getting lost on the Cherry Creek Falls Trail near Duvall, according to the King County Sheriff's Office. The emergency call came in around 9:30 p.m., when a man reported that he and six children—ranging in age from 2 to 13—were lost. The group had no food or water, and the temperature was in the low 50s and dropping. Deputies from the Sheriff's North Precinct and Sammamish Police Department responded, along with King County Search and Rescue volunteers. A sergeant from the Sammamish Police, who is trained as a drone operator, deployed what the department refers to as an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to help find the group. The sergeant was able to locate the hikers using the drone, and rescue teams on the ground made contact with them about a mile up the trail. The drone followed the group as they made their way back to the trailhead, providing both light and reassurance for the children. One Search and Rescue volunteer noted the drone was especially helpful not just for lighting the path, but for distracting and calming some of the frightened kids. All members of the hiking group were safely returned without injury, authorities said. The King County Sheriff's Office currently has 41 trained drone pilots across its agency.
