NDTV2 days ago

Who Is Salman Iftikhar?
He is the director and founder of Staffing Match, a recruitment firm, his LinkedIn profile revealed. Media reports have claimed that he lives a luxurious life in London with a £2 million house and a fleet of expensive cars.

The court heard that Iftikhar has six previous convictions arising from 15 offences, including common assault in 2004 and drink driving in 2008.
According to a report by the Standard, he was also fined £3,000 in 2021 after he was caught drink driving, as well as being under the influence of cannabis in his Rolls-Royce in 2021.
Local reports suggest that he appeared in the dock wearing a grey suit with a pink shirt and yellow tie. He was weeping as he was jailed for 15 months.
What Exactly Happened On Flight?
Iftikhar was flying with his wife and three children when he told crew member Angie Walsh that she would be dragged out of her hotel room, gang raped and set alight.
Iftikhar's outburst began after he was asked to stop taking ice with his bare hands at the in-flight bar, and he went on to accuse the crew of racism, shouting expletives, and making violent threats.
The entire incident was captured by a co-passenger. The video showed Iftikhar accusing Ms Walsh of being a racist. He said, "You called me a Pa-i in front of everybody."
On being asked to return to his seat, Iftikhar told cabin crew: "Don't tell me what to do you racist f---ing b--ch. I know where you are from in Cardiff."
Isleworth Crown Court heard the case as Prosecutor Abdul Kapadia said Iftikhar's behaviour even forced the cabin crew to discuss diverting the plane to Turkey.
However, the plane had landed in Pakistan. But he was not arrested immediately. He was arrested on March 16, 2024, at his home in Iver, Buckinghamshire.
The Prosecutor said that his wife was "ashamed" and his three children "were also on board". Iftikhar was "slurring his words" as he got up from his seat and "grabbed Ms Walsh's hand" and called her a "f---ing white Welsh c---".
"The defendant also threatened to blow up the floor of the Avari Lahore Hotel, where the cabin crew were due to stay," Kapadia added.
During the altercation, Iftikhar shouted Walsh would be "dragged by [her] hair" and "gang raped and set on fire". He said that she would "be dead on the floor of [her] hotel" and added "the white sheep sh---ing b---h will be dead. The floor of [her] hotel will be blown up and it will disappear".
Mental Trauma To Walsh
Walsh was left traumatised and took 14 months off work to recover from the incident. She said, "I feel like what happened that day has changed my life enormously. I can't quite believe that one passenger has had this much of an impact on my, job, my career and my life. I am a strong, brave, happy stewardess, and loved my job. I am well known within the company."
"I have been flying with Virgin Atlantic for 37 years. I was working when all flights were grounded on 9/11, and I've even flown into a warzone. But this incident has broken me."

OPT students in US face visa risk as authorities crackdown on fake payrolls

1 2 Hyderabad: Students on OPT (optional practical training) in the United States are facing renewed uncertainty as authorities begin cracking down on job consultancies. Oversight has been tightened on firms that provide students with fabricated payslips and payroll records in order to keep them technically employed, without offering any meaningful work. Now, under increased scrutiny, many of these consultancies have ceased issuing such fake payrolls. As a result, hundreds of OPT students, many of whom relied on these arrangements to maintain their visa status, now find themselves with potentially just 60 days to secure legitimate employment or risk falling out of status. "It's terrifying," said a 26-year-old postgraduate student from Hyderabad, currently residing in Houston. "I was told I had an 'employer' and was receiving pay stubs, but now they've stopped. I don't know what to do; finding real work at short notice is almost impossible." "I've been paying thousands in rent and tuition under the assumption that my paperwork was in order. Now I'm scrambling, with less than two months to find something genuine. I'm now looking for trustworthy consultancies." US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) guidelines state that such documentation is fraudulent and may endanger an individual's legal status and future immigration prospects. Fake payrolls can result in the termination of an I-20 form, loss of immigration status, and, in some cases, allegations of misrepresentation in future immigration processes, such as H-1B visa or green card applications. Immigration experts are urging students to take proactive measures. "OPT students should do a gut check and assess the legitimacy of any roles or consultancies they are considering," said Nicole Alexandra Gunara, principal immigration solicitor at Manifest Law. "Speak with your Designated School Officer (DSO) or international student office, as universities are often aware of problematic arrangements. Reach out via LinkedIn to speak with other employees or F-1 students at the company, ask for a clear work statement outlining duties and deliverables, and verify whether the company has active client contracts," she said On the legal implications, she added: "Even if a student was unaware they were being issued fake payrolls, they should seek immediate legal counsel, gather evidence to show they acted in good faith, report the issue to their DSO, and change employers if possible." Pakistani forces kill 33 militants in overnight operation near Afghan border

Pakistani security forces killed 33 militants who attempted to enter the insurgency-hit southwest from neighbouring Afghanistan, the military said on Friday (August 8, 2025). The military said in a statement that an overnight operation took place in the Zhob district of Balochistan province, where troops spotted "Khwarij,' a phrase the government uses for Pakistani Taliban. A search operation was underway to find and eliminate any remaining insurgents, the military said. Pakistan often accuses the Taliban government in Afghanistan of turning a blind eye to militants operating near the frontier. Kabul denies the charge. The Pakistani military said the militants who were killed had the backing of India, though it offered no evidence to back up the allegation. Pakistan has long accused New Delhi of supporting the Pakistani Taliban and separatists in Baluchistan. There was no immediate comment from New Delhi. In a statement, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for what he called a successful operation. Also on Friday, the government in Balochistan said it suspended mobile phone internet service until August 31 for security reasons. The measure comes ahead of the Aug. 14 Independence Day holiday, which celebrates Pakistan gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1947. In recent years, insurgents in Balochistan have targeted people selling national flags ahead of the holiday. Baluchistan has for years been the scene of an insurgency by separatist groups, along with attacks by the Pakistani Taliban and the outlawed Baluch Liberation Army. The separatists demand independence from Pakistan's central government in Islamabad. Officials say the insurgency has been largely quelled, but violence continues. Currently, Pakistan's security forces are also carrying out intelligence-based operations in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where troops in April killed 54 Pakistani Taliban in what authorities described as the deadliest single-day clash for militants this year. Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks, most claimed by Pakistani Taliban who are known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, and are allies of the Afghan Taliban. TTP is a separate group and has been emboldened since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Many TTP leaders and fighters have found sanctuary in Afghanistan since then.
