Police name man killed in Ayr flat disturbance as detectives investigate murder
Police have named a man who died following a disturbance at a flat in Ayr as they confirmed they are treating his death as murder.
Mark Blackwood, 42, died following the incident on Glenmuir Place in the Whitletts area of the town on Saturday, July 5.
Extensive enquiries have been carried out by police with an area around Glenmuir Place cordoned off for a number of days.
Mr Blackwood's family, who are being supported by officers, are aware and have asked that their privacy is respected.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8.10pm to reports of a man found seriously injured in a flat.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination has taken place and police have confirmed his death is now being treated as murder.
Detective Inspector Steven Slater said: 'Our thoughts are with Mark's family and friends at this very difficult time.
"It is vital that we get answers for them and we are fully committed to this.
"An extensive investigation is ongoing and officers are following a number of lines of enquiry.
'Additional officers remain in the area, and I would encourage anyone who has concerns, or any information, to approach them.
'I continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything that could assist with our investigation to get in touch by contacting Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3237 of 5 July, 2025.'

Pensioner on mobility scooter critically injured in crash
The crash happened at around 4.50pm on Friday on Gartlea Road in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, when the mobility scooter was struck by a Vauxhall Mokka driven by a 43-year-old man. Emergency services attended and the pensioner was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where staff described his condition as critical. Sergeant Ross Allison, of Police Scotland's road policing unit, said: 'Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this crash and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist to contact us. 'I would also ask any drivers with dashcam who were in the Gartlea Road area at the time to review their footage and please contact us if it holds anything which may be relevant.'
