Final call for entries to Pendine Young Musician of Wales

Royal composer Paul Mealor has extended a final call for entries to the Pendine Young Musician of Wales competition.
Open to instrumentalists and singers, the competition will be held during the North Wales International Music Festival at St Asaph Cathedral, from September 11 to 20.
Mr Mealor emphasised the potential impact on participants' careers, saying: "It's a very special competition that can launch a career and we're indebted to Pendine Park for sponsoring it."
The competition, funded by the Pendine Park care organisation, offers a generous prize pool for the top four finalists.
The overall winner will receive the silver Pendine Trophy and £2,000 in cash.
The second prize winner will secure £1,000, and two runners-up will be awarded £500 each.
The performances of all four finalists will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Cymru.
A panel of judges, including Professor Helena Gaunt, Principal of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama; Rebecca Evans CBE, a world-renowned operatic soprano; and Alun Jones, the festival's executive vice-chair and former principal of Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, will select the winners.
While the judges deliberate, last year's winner, Cardiff-based harpist Heledd Wynn Newton, will entertain the audience.
The competition is open to all young musicians, either born or residing in Wales, or Welsh nationals living abroad, who were under 21 on January 1, 2025.
Applicants under 18 will need the permission of their teacher or parent to enter.
Mr Mealor added: "If there's any young instrumentalists or vocalists who want to have a chance to win thousands of pounds in prize money and to perform live on BBC Radio Cymru, they need to get their skates on."
Entrants must upload their performance via a link on the festival's website to be judged anonymously.
Selected participants will advance to the semi-final to perform a 10-minute programme, with four finalists competing the following night.
Festival founder Mario Kreft said: "Our aim is to encourage and foster young, emerging talent and the Pendine Young Musician of Wales competition has all the makings of a very prestigious event.
"I think in years to come it will be one of the premier competitions for young musicians and will hopefully assist them and propel them in their careers."
He added: "Like Paul, I would urge young musicians right across Wales to submit their entries now.
"We can't wait to hear them perform, and to follow their futures in the world of music."
The closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday, July 4.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the festival's website.

Spice Girl Mel B celebrates marriage with ‘spiritual' ceremony in Morocco

It comes after the 50-year-old, whose real name is Melanie Brown, married hairdresser Rory McPhee at St Paul's Cathedral in July, having announced their engagement in October 2022. In a post on Instagram, Brown said: 'We got married, again! 'A wedding so good we keep the celebration going with our closest and dearest in our fave place at @selmanmarrakech we had the time of our lives.' A post shared by 'scary spice Mel B' (@officialmelb) The singer wore a red dress with crystals and bugle beads made in a collaboration between Evelie Bridal and wedding dress designer Justin Alexander at the ceremony at the Selman Hotel on Saturday. Her choice of dress was guided by Caroline Black from London-based Evelie Bridal, who aimed to reflect her life in the US, where she is a judge on America's Got Talent. Black told the PA news agency: 'For Mel's Morocco wedding dress, we focused on trying Justin Alexander gowns with a little extra sparkle. 'Mel loved the idea of a red dress — something bold, with lots and lots of shimmer — but it also had to feel light and easy to move in. 'We drew inspiration from a variety of dresses she tried on at Evelie South Kensington, then went back and forth brainstorming with Justin Alexander and his design team. 'After several conversations and sketches, the first design took shape. Mel gave us clear feedback on what she liked and what she didn't, and the final result was beautiful. 'Mel had such a strong sense of what she wanted — it was a joy working with her and Justin Alexander to bring her vision to life.' The dress required a team of six artisans and took more than 850 hours to complete. Her husband wore an Alexander McQueen outfit featuring a white shirt and jacket with black trousers and shoes. The London wedding saw Brown joined by guests including bandmate Emma Bunton, model Daisy Lowe, and comedians Tom Allen and Katherine Ryan. The singer was previously married to Stephen Belafonte until she filed for divorce in 2017 following allegations of abuse. They have a daughter, Madison Brown Belafonte. Brown also has two daughters, Phoenix Chi Gulzar and Angel Iris Murphy Brown, from two previous relationships. With the Spice Girls, the singer had nine UK number one singles and two UK number one albums. The group was best known for songs such as Wannabe, 2 Become 1 and Who Do You Think You Are?.

Watch awkward moment Andrada confronts Ben for cheating on her as islanders cause chaos in Love Island return

THIS is the awkward moment Andrada confronted Ben for cheating on her as axed Islanders returned to the villa to cause chaos. Sunday's penultimate episode saw former villa residents return to decide which of two couples should be sent home, a day before the final. 5 5 The gang had to choose between Meg and Dejon and Angel and Ty, with the OGs receiving the most votes and harshest criticism. But before all the votes had been cast, Andrada brought some extra drama as she confronted her ex, Ben. The taxi driver, 23, and the nail technician, 27, vowed to give their romance a go on the outside after they were dumped from the villa following a public vote. But just days after they gushed over each other on Love Island 's Aftersun, the pair seemed to have already called it a day. And during the episode, Andrada had plenty to say to Ben. It all started when Ben gave his verdict on Meg and Dejon, who he had been good friends with in the villa. He said: "There's so many more challenges, there's a lot of distractions. "I know D, every time a bombshell came in your head was swaying a little bit and I definitely think you was open to getting to know them. I know on the outside world there is a whole lot more going on out there." Host Maya Jama asked how he had come to that conclusion and Andrada patted him on the leg and said: "I think he's basing it on his own experience there." Ben replied: "Didn't need that did I?" Love Islander reveals her hair transformation Maya asked what had happened and Andrada revealed: "So we came outside the villa he went exclusive with me, and he was about to meet my family next week. "It took one event where I wasn't there and his head turned." Ben replied: "I wouldn't say it turned." But Andrada was having none of it, spinning her finger in the air and saying: "360 baby. Turned. Just be a man, like if you're going to do it, do it with chest and stand on it." LOVE ISLAND 2025 - ALL the dumped stars so far LOVE Island 2025 is in its penultimate week. Taking to X, one wrote: "Andrada walked into that villa, humbled Ben, declared her love for Yas & Jamie, and dragged Dejon over camera-gate all in one night. A queen." Another added: "andrada read ben to filth and demon at the same time." A third tweeted: "Andrada exposing Ben as a cheater was iconic." 5 5

Love Island ‘winners' revealed ahead of least loved-up final EVER as survey tells all about why viewers keep tuning in

LOVE Island hosts its least loved-up final ever tonight – with no official couples up for the crown. Three of the four contenders are 'exclusively dating', but none has said, 'I love you' or officially become boyfriend and girlfriend. 6 6 6 It would seem, though, that this is exactly how viewers like it. Our exclusive poll of readers found that just five per cent of you watch the show 'for love' — and the rest tune in for the 'drama'. Some 51 per cent said they are drawn by explosive scenes, while 44 per cent said they want a mix. And TV ratings suggest the show is enjoying a revival, with viewing figures surging back towards 2022 levels, when winners Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti set our screens alight with drama. An average 2.7million tune in to watch each Love Island episode, and the current series has reached 145million streams on ITVX. So what drama has seen viewers fall back in love with the ITV2 dating show this series? Explosive love triangles have kept fans on the edge of their seats, with gold trader and semi-pro footballer Harry Cooksley flip-flopping between two girls, Shakira Khan and Helena Ford. Another footie star to play the field is Harrison Solomon, stringing along Toni Laites and Lauren Wood. Meanwhile, personal trainer Dejon Williams continually pushed the boundaries with Meg Moore to flirt with other bombshells. The girls were at it too, though, as Toni dabbled with Cach Mercer and Harrison, while Yasmin Pettet caught the attention of a number of the lads before she found Jamie Rhodes in Casa Amor. And there was savage bullying among the girls, notably from Meg. Some of the toxic behaviour prompted Women's Aid to raise concerns over the men 'lying, manipulating and covering for each other', branding it misogyny. Many viewers complained about the show to Ofcom, including eight per cent of readers in our poll. Some 29 per cent said they wanted to log a concern but didn't. You exposed Harry as the villain of the series, with 32 per cent of the vote, followed by Meg on 22 and Harrison on 15 per cent. An uptick in the amount of sex screened by producers also boosted the drama, with 22 per cent of readers saying the raunchy scenes made the show more interesting. Tonight's finalists are Yasmin and Jamie; Toni and Cach; Angel Swift and Ty Isherwood, who are all 'exclusive'; and Harry and Shakira. Sun readers have hailed Yasmin and Jamie their winners with 28 per cent of the vote, followed by Toni and Cach on 18.9 per cent and Shakira and Harry a whisker behind with 18.7 per cent. 'Something real' Some 27 per cent think Yasmin and Jamie will last on the outside. Conor Phillips and Megan Clarke were axed during Friday's episode, then Meg and Dejon left last night. Our poll was done while all five couples were still in the villa. During their final dates of this series, Yasmin told Jamie: 'When I met you, the waters just seemed to calm', while Jamie confessed: 'I feel like this is something real.' 6 6 6 Toni told Cach she felt 'taken care of'. He gifted her a necklace and asked her to be exclusive. Ty gushed to Angel: 'My feelings are growing for you every day', while she admitted: 'I've got feelings for you. I like it.' And Harry gave Shakira a necklace and a turtle pendant, her favourite animal. Maya Jama hosts tonight's final live from the villa. Some 60 per cent backed her as host, but 16 per cent felt she had 'clocked out'. Love Island final tonight, 9pm, ITV2. BULLIES MUST STOP By FELICITY CROSS EVEN in the 1800s, Jane Austen knew the path to true love should never run smooth. Who wants a happy ever after just five minutes in? It's clear Love Island bosses agree and, when launching this summer's series at the TV villa, executive producer Mike Spencer-Hayter told me to expect more twists, turns and drama than ever before. The decision made for must-watch telly and long-dormant WhatsApp groups have come alive, with my fortysomething friends once more desperate for all my Love Island gossip. But there's also been some truly horrible behaviour, with some of the lads treating the girls appallingly. Can we make love without war? It's a balance PR-savvy ITV will need to find next year if the show is to survive.
