Kayla McBride ties WNBA record with 8 made 3s in one half, Lynx off to scorching start vs. Aces
During a 67-point Minnesota first half, McBride tied a WNBA record with eight made 3s.
The five-time WNBA All-Star didn't miss from beyond the arc in the opening two quarters, and three of long-range splashes took place in the span of 53 seconds late in the second frame.
That sequence saw McBride come off a screen and drain a 30-foot triple, a shot that would have probably been good for four points in this year's All-Star Game. Immediately after that, she stole a pass from three-time league MVP A'ja Wilson, dribble down the court and hit a 27-foot 3, that one over the outstretched arm of the 6-foot-4 Wilson. McBride finished the trifecta of 3s with a 29-footer, making the Aces pay from way downtown after Las Vegas was late on its defensive rotation.
Fellow Lynx and All-Star guard Courtney Williams kept Minnesota's foot on the gas with a late-shot-clock triple. As a result, the Lynx clocked out of the first half 13-of-14 from 3-point land.
Minnesota entered the break with a 67-33 lead.
MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier — the Lynx's third All-Star this season who came into the day averaging a league-high 23.8 points per game — had only 4 points in the opening half.

Sha'Carri Richardson's rough week ends with stunning 200-meter miss at US track and field championships
A rough week for American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson ended with a narrow miss of the 200-meter final on Sunday at the United States track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. Just a week ago, Richardson was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree domestic violence for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Richardson was booked into South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington, for more than 18 hours instead of doing what she needed to prepare for the biggest week in track and field across the country. She went on to compete in the 100-meter opening round, but later withdrew from the event. But while Richardson has an automatic bid in the world championships next month in Tokyo, Japan, as the defending champion of the race, she didn't have the same luxury in the 200. Richardson ended fourth in her heat after running the 200-meter sprint in 22.56 seconds. The top two finishers of each heat advance as well as the next three fastest times. Madison Whyte just barely beat out Richardson after running 22.55 seconds in the same heat. Richardson, who won bronze in this event at the 2023 world championships, was running her first 200 meters this season. As for the alleged domestic violence incident, Richardson is being accused of grabbing Coleman's backpack, yanking on it and shoving him into a wall, which was all apparently caught on video surveillance. Richardson appeared to throw something at Coleman, which TSA indicated may have been headphones, according to The Associated Press. "I was told Coleman did not want participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim," an officer wrote in their police report. This is Richardson's second known public airport incident after she was previously kicked off a plane in January 2023 after a dispute with a flight attendant who she said spoke to her in a disrespectful manner. The 25-year-old also made global headlines after testing positive for cannabis before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she accepted a one-month suspension by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, making her ineligible to run in the 100-meter race. She wasn't selected to the 4x100-meter relay team either, which delayed her Olympic debut until this past year in Paris. Richardson won the 100-meter race in Budapest at the 2023 world championships, but she finished with silver in the event in Paris. She did, however, win gold as part of the 4x100 relay team.

Julio Rodriguez homers for fourth straight 20-20 season as Mariners beat Rangers
SEATTLE (AP) — Julio Rodriguez homered to become the first player in major league history with 20 or more home runs and 20 or more stolen bases in each of his first four seasons, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 on Sunday. Rodriguez hit a two-run shot in the third inning — his 100th career homer — and the slugging and speedy center fielder also added his 21st stolen base of the season after singling in the fifth inning. Jorge Polanco added a solo shot in the second and shortstop J.P. Crawford smacked a two-run blast in the fourth against Rangers starter Jacob deGrom (10-4), who became the fastest pitcher in major league history to reach 1,800 career strikeouts by games and innings on Sunday. The Rangers kept things close by pushing across three runs against Mariners starter Logan Evans (5-4), but only tallied one run against the Mariners bullpen before closer Andrés Muñoz locked down his 25th save of the season. Key moment Sam Haggerty pinch-ran for Joc Pederson with one out in the ninth inning and attempted to steal second base while Wyatt Langford was batting. Haggerty was initially ruled safe, but following a replay review was ruled out. Langford struck out swinging immediately after to end the inning. Key stat Sunday was the first time deGrom has allowed three home runs or more in a game since Sept. 30, 2022, against the Atlanta Braves while he was a member of the New York Mets. Up next Rangers left-hander Patrick Corbin (6-7, 3.78) starts Monday evening against the New York Yankees. The Mariners are off Monday, but right-hander Bryan Woo (8-6, 3.11) will start against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. ___ AP MLB:
