McLaren Puts Unreleased Car Up For Auction In A 'First Of Its Kind' Announcement
McLaren boss Zak Brown opined that the auction would mark the first-ever time an unreleased F1 car has been put up for sale.
In a first-of-its-kind move, Formula One side McLaren announced the auction of one of its 2026 F1 cars even before the manchine's debut on the racetrack.
McLaren has put up three chassis in an action organised by RM Sotheby's, slated to be held on the 5th of December, ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
McLaren boss Zak Brown opined that the auction would be the first time a future F1 car had been sold before it had been unveiled to the public.
The other two are a 2026 Arrow McLaren Indycar, set to race at the Indianapolis 500 next May by Mexican driver Pato O'Ward, and McLaren's inaugural 2027 World Endurance Hypercar, which will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The yet unnamed 2026 car will mark the team's entry into a new era of Formula One, featuring significant changes in technical and engine regulations.
The successful bidder will have to wait until 2028 to take delivery, with a 2025 show car offered on lease until then. The buyer will also receive behind-the-scenes access to the team and events. The other cars will be delivered after their respective series conclude.

'Unless Something Strange Happens...': Lionel Messi To Return From Injury Against LA Galaxy
Miami head coach Javier Mascherano revealed that Messi, who sustained a muscle injury during the side's clash against Necaxa, has been training with the team since midweek. Inter Miami star Lionel Messi could return to the field when the MLS side take on LA Galaxy on Sunday, as the Florida-based side gears up for a string of crucial fixtures. Miami will take on Mexican club Tigres UANL on Wednesday in the Leagues Cup quarter-finals. Messi sustained a muscle injury during Miami's previous Leagues Cup clash against Necaxa and has been out of action since. Miami head coach Javier Mascherano revealed that he has been training with the team since midweek. 'Leo is doing well," Mascherano said on Friday. 'He has been training with the team since Wednesday. Unless something strange happens during today's training session, we think he'll be available for tomorrow's game." Miami secured a 3-1 victory against Pumas UNAM on Thursday in their final group stage match of the Leagues Cup, despite Messi's absence. Goals from Rodrigo De Paul, Luis Suarez, and Tadeo Allende helped Miami come back after Jorge Ruvalcaba had initially put the Mexican side ahead. Messi, the magician from Rosario who led Argentina to their third World Cup title in the 2022 edition held in Qatar, was substituted in the 11th minute of Inter Miami's Leagues Cup match against the Mexican side Necaxa at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale following a collision with opposition defender Alexis Pena. Miami eventually won 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular play. Mascherano lauded the quality the LA Galaxy possess and called on his side to take the challenge very seriously to avoid any surprise. 'For me, they're a team in which the MLS standings don't reflect their quality, especially the quality of their players," Mascherano said. 'The reality is that maybe they didn't start the season well because of injuries and different situations. But they've improved a lot over the last few months." view comments First Published: August 16, 2025, 09:53 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. George Russell on his father's tough approach during his early days: 'I always felt I wasn't good enough for him'
George Russell's family (Image credit: Instagram) Formula 1 fans know how tough reigning champion Max Verstappen's father was in pushing him to the top. Now, George Russell has opened up about his own father's strict approach, which often left him feeling he was never good enough. The Mercedes driver revealed it took him five years to realise he was actually faster than he thought — a deliberate tactic by his father to keep him humble. George Russell on his father's training tactics George Russell is currently in fourth position in the Formula 1 Driver Standings with one win and five more podiums. Opening up about his growing-up years with F1 as his aim, Russell told Motorsport in an interview, "I always felt that I wasn't good enough for my father. When I used to do go-karting, at the time, there was no real data analysis. We didn't even have lap times on practice days. It was literally my father with a stopwatch. And I learned after about five years that he would always time me late, so my lap times looked slower than reality. He would tell me the lap times of the other drivers on practice days, and I always thought I was slow.' 'Then I got to the races and I was qualifying on pole and winning races, and I was so confused as a kid. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Earn Upto 5k Daily By This Method of Intraday Trading TradeWise Learn More Undo I'd think, 'I'm always slow on these practice days, but then I get to the races and I win. Why is that?' I realised over time that he would always do that just so I didn't get too full of myself or overly confident, and that was such an amazing, important lesson for me," he added. Russell also revealed how he would see his dad only during weekends due to his work shifts and would be upset about why he was always screaming and shouting at him during his racing practice. 'As a young kid, I was thinking, 'I don't see my father, and when I do see him, he's upset with me and I feel like I'm letting him down.' That was really tough,' he said. Confirming that he eventually realised his father's mindset and hard work behind his racing career, he said, "I can only imagine the pressure and stress he must have been under himself. Ultimately, those years from the age of seven to 13 shaped me as a person, and I have him to thank for that."
