Shwetha Menon elected AMMA prez as female actors win top posts
In the elections held in the city on Friday,
Shwetha Menon
was chosen as president, while Cuckoo Parameswaran was elected general secretary following a closely contested election.
Out of 506 eligible members, 298 cast their votes. Menon defeated senior actor Devan after securing 159 votes. In general secretary contest, Parameswaran secured 172 votes to claim victory. Jayan Cherthala and Lakshmipriya secured wins for the post of vice-presidents, while Unni Shivapal won the treasurer's post.
Ansiba Hassan became the joint secretary, unopposed.
Speaking to reporters in Kochi, Menon expressed gratitude to those who supported her and extended her invitation to the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) members who earlier resigned from AMMA. "We welcome back the members of WCC who earlier resigned from AMMA. I am even willing to invite the members of WCC in person," she said.
The newly elected executive committee members include Anjali Nair, Asha Aravind, Sarayu Mohan, Neena Kurup, Joy Mathew, Kailash, Nandu Poduval, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Tini Tom, Vinu Mohan and Sijoy Varghese.
The new team takes over after veteran actor Mohanlal, who served as president for six consecutive years, was re-elected unopposed in 2024 but stepped down following sexual misconduct allegations against several office bearers.

The film is the first instalment in the planned animated seven-part Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, based on the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, as per Hindu mythology. According to film trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal, it is probable that Mahavatar Narasimha will release on streaming giant JioHotstar in Hindi, India Times reported. The speculation is based on previous collaborations between the platform and the production house. Previously, Hindi-dubbed versions of big titles such as 'Salaar' and 'Raajakumara' were released on the same platform. The Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada versions of the Sandalwood film, 'Mahavatar Narasimha', might be released on different regional platforms, according to sources.
