Electricity reaches remote hilltop village in Andhra, tribals dance with joy
For the first time ever, the Jeelugulowa community in Telangana's Anakapalle district danced the traditional Dhimsa with joy, because their village finally has electricity. Tucked away on the top of Samalamma hill, Jeelugulowa is home to just eight families with a population of 50 people. Until now, life after sunset meant surviving in darkness, amid dense forests and wild animals. The villagers used candles to eat, walked 7 km to Bangaru Bandalu to charge their phones, and lived in fear at night, especially when someone fell ill or was bitten by a snake.advertisementTheir long wait for basic infrastructure has finally ended. After multiple protests and appeals during Visakha Zilla Parishad meetings, and a visit from the National Human Rights Commission Chairman and Anakapalle Collector in 2022, promises were made to provide electricity, water, and roads. Aadhaar and ration cards were issued, but progress remained slow.
On Sunday night, the lights came on. Under the Janman scheme, power finally reached the village — prompting a celebration with dance and heartfelt gratitude. The villagers extended special thanks to the Anakapalle District Collector and the electricity department engineers.CPI(M) district executive committee members K Govinda Rao and K Mahesh were also thanked for their continued support. NHRC takes cognizance of Bengaluru stampede incident, issues notices
Bengaluru: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday took cognizance of the stampede incident near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in which 11 people were killed, and issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner of the Bengaluru Urban district and the city Police Commissioner. The Commission has also sought an Action Taken Report from them within seven days. The notice was issued by Brijvir Singh, the Assistant Registrar (Law). 'The Registry is directed to issue a notice to the District Magistrate and Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, Karnataka, with directions to get the allegations made in the complaint inquired into and to submit an Action Taken Report within 7 days for perusal of the Commission,' Singh stated. The Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner also serves as the District Magistrate. 'The authorities are also directed to submit the list of deceased and injured victims. The relevant documents, permissions obtained, and granted for organising the event, including the details of the permission issuing authority, shall also be submitted along with the report. It is also directed that the report of Special Branch, CID, Police, examined by the authorities prior to issuance of the permission to organise such big events, be also submitted in the matter,' the NHRC specifies. The commission further stated that the complainant sought the intervention of the NHRC in the matter and requested to constitute a high-level investigation, accountability of responsible officials, compensation and justice for victims. The complainants also sought to formulate the preventive guidelines to avoid such incidents, tragedies in the future. 'The allegations made in the complaints prima facie seem to be serious violations of the human rights of the victims. The Bench of the National Human Rights Commission, presided by Priyank Kanoongo, Member, has taken cognizance under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, in the matter,' the NHRC said. 'The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, has entrusted the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, with the responsibility of protecting and promoting the rights of all human beings in the country and having the powers of a civil court for inquiry u/s 13 of the PHR Act, 1993," the Commission said. The complainant brought to the notice of the NHRC a news report highlighting that on the occasion of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL-18, Cup winning parade, a stampede occurred outside М. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on June 4. "The complainant alleged that due to gross administrative negligence during RCB's victory parade, 11 people had died and over 50 were injured in the stampede, the NHRC stated. The Commission has received various complaints in this matter, including from the 'BHIM' organisation, alleging poor crowd control management by the authorities and shockingly, festivities and celebrations continued inside the stadium, despite the tragedy that occurred and dead bodies lying outside the stadium, stated the NHRC.

Sanjay Jha-led delegation briefs EAM Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor outreach
The all-party parliamentary delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha on Thursday met External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and briefed him on the support received during their recent five-nation diplomatic outreach on the Operation Sindoor. The delegation which met EAM Jaishankar included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Hemang Joshi, and Pradan Baruah, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M)'s Rajya Sabha member John Brittas, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and former diplomat Mohan Kumar. During their visits to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, the delegation presented dossiers and evidence on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism relating to Pahalgam terror attack and also informed them about India's military action under Operation Sindoor. Speaking to IANS after the meeting, JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha said, "There was a very positive atmosphere in Indonesia. We received support, and their statement was in favour of India. Malaysia, however, appeared a little neutral. We noticed every country had its own approach. In many places, we got a positive response; in some, it was neutral, and in a few, there were questions. But this was the aim of our tour -- to understand and share perspectives." "We shared with them our firm stand against terrorism," he added. The Minister was deeply engaged and asked many questions. We explained everything in depth. Now the MEA will take a call on the further steps." Referring to the criticism over timing of diplomatic outreach, Sarangi said, "The delegation completed its work with seriousness and gave its briefing. Even today, during the meeting with the EAM, leaders like Salman Khurshid and CPI(M)'s John Brittas were present, and there was great camaraderie and unity. That's what stood out the most."

New substations to improve power supply in Mys: Min
Mysuru: Energy minister KG George on Wednesday revealed plans to set up 44 new substations in Mysuru district to enhance power distribution. Although there is no power problem at present, supply is becoming a problem due to lack of infrastructure. Out of the 4 lakh illegal pumpsets in the state, 2.5 lakh pumpsets were regularised. The department will provide transformers to pumpsets within 500 meters of the feeders. Solar pumpsets will be provided to pumpsets beyond 500 meters under the Kusum-B scheme. Similarly, feeder solarization is being done under the Kusum-C scheme to provide adequate power to farmers during the day," he said. "Our govt has set a target of generating 2,400 MW of solar power through feeder solarization of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme. Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the solar power plant set up under the Kusum-M scheme at Tondebhavi in Gauribidanur on June 11," he said. The minister dismissed rumours regarding the discontinuation of free electricity for agricultural pumpsets due to Aadhar-RR number linkage. "This seeding work was done to ascertain how much electricity is being supplied to farmers and how many connections they have.
