"Works of these 44 power transmission substations will be completed within two years. Although there is no power problem at present, supply is becoming a problem due to lack of infrastructure. The number of power transmission substations is being increased to overcome this problem," he said.
"All kinds of measures are being taken to provide adequate power to farmers' pumpsets. Out of the 4 lakh illegal pumpsets in the state, 2.5 lakh pumpsets were regularised.
The department will provide transformers to pumpsets within 500 meters of the feeders. Solar pumpsets will be provided to pumpsets beyond 500 meters under the Kusum-B scheme. Similarly, feeder solarization is being done under the Kusum-C scheme to provide adequate power to farmers during the day," he said.
"Our govt has set a target of generating 2,400 MW of solar power through feeder solarization of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the solar power plant set up under the Kusum-M scheme at Tondebhavi in Gauribidanur on June 11," he said.
The minister dismissed rumours regarding the discontinuation of free electricity for agricultural pumpsets due to Aadhar-RR number linkage. "This seeding work was done to ascertain how much electricity is being supplied to farmers and how many connections they have.

Along with continuing free electricity up to 10 HP for agricultural pumpsets, adequate electricity will also be supplied for seven hours. There is no doubt about this," he said.
"After the chief minister's recent visit to the hamlets, necessary steps were taken to provide electricity to them and necessary infrastructure was built. Steps were taken to provide electricity to more than 600 hamlet houses," he said.
State sugarcane growers' association members demonstrated outside the zilla panchayat office during the minister's review meeting. Their demands included withdrawing the Aadhar seeding proposal and compensation for farmers whose lands were acquired for high tension lines infrastructure.

Trump to make big changes in H1-B visa programme, citizenship test will become...; how difficult is it going to be for Indians?

New Delhi: America's H1-B visa has been an important way for foreigners to get work here and people from all over the world try to get this document, especially Indians who go to great lengths to get an H1-B visa in large numbers. Is Trump administration going to make citizenship test stricter? According to reports, the Trump administration is going to make big changes in the rules for issuing this visa, which can have a direct impact on Indians. The Trump administration is also considering making the citizenship test stricter. Joseph Edlow, the new director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), said in an interview to the New York Times that the Trump administration intends to make radical changes in the H-1B visa system for skilled foreign workers. Edlow said that the exam to become an American citizen is very easy and it should be changed. 'I don't think we are really following the spirit of the law right now,' he said. What is the controversy over H-1B Visa Programme? The H-1B visa programme for foreign workers has long been a matter of controversy even within the ruling Republican Party. The Trump administration has talked about major changes in the H-1B visa selection process. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) have also sent a proposal to the White House for the new H-1B visa selection system. How will now H-1B candidates be selected? According to Financial Express, indications from the Trump administration indicate that H-1B candidates will be selected on the basis of skills, experience level and salary. In this, selection will be done on efficiency instead of equal treatment for all. Edlow has said that in this, priority will be given to those corporations who want to pay higher salaries to foreign workers. Does the Trump government want to change US citizenship test? Joseph Edlow, the director of the USCIS, said that the Trump government wants to change the citizenship test required for potential US citizens. Currently, immigrants study 100 questions of civics. To pass this part of the exam, they have to answer six out of 10 questions correctly. Edlow says the government intends to reintroduce a new version of that exam soon.

Karnataka caste survey

It has been full of twists, real and imagined. Caution had filled the April air as the Siddaramaiah regime dusted off Karnataka's 2015 caste survey report. Tense cabinet meets ensued, amid a feared backlash from the Lingayat-Vokkaliga caste duopoly. Meanwhile, a googly came from the Centre: on April 30, after years of holding out, it relented on including a national caste count in the 2026 census. The Congress claimed credit for forcing the U-turn, but soon made one of its own. Karnataka effectively junked the 2015 report. Instead, between September 22 and October 7, some 165,000 enumerators will fan out with handheld devices for a de novo sorting of the state's 70-odd million.

‘Lent legitimacy to divisive ideology': CM Vijayan takes aim at National Film Awards after ‘The Kerala Story' wins award for Best Director

After 'The Kerala Story' won the awards for best director and best cinematography at the 71st National Film Awards, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the ceremony for lending 'legitimacy to a narrative rooted in the divisive ideology.' Accusing the film of spreading misinformation, he said it aims at 'sowing seeds of communal hatred' and 'tarnishing' the image of his state. Filmmaker Sudipto Sen was awarded Best Director and Prasantanu Mohapatra for Best Cinematography for their role in 'The Kerala Story'. 'By honouring a film that spreads blatant misinformation with the clear intent of tarnishing Kerala's image and sowing seeds of communal hatred, the jury of the National Film Awards has lent legitimacy to a narrative rooted in the divisive ideology of the Sangh Parivar,' Vijayan said. 'Kerala, a land that has always stood as a beacon of harmony and resistance against communal forces, has been gravely insulted by this decision. It is not just Malayalis, but everyone who believes in democracy, must raise their voice in defence of truth and the constitutional values we hold dear,' he added.
