Speaking to reporters after a review meeting, he assured farmers about Aadhar linkage with irrigation pumpset connections and confirmed immediate electricity provisions for tribal settlements.

"Works of these 44 power transmission substations will be completed within two years. Although there is no power problem at present, supply is becoming a problem due to lack of infrastructure. The number of power transmission substations is being increased to overcome this problem," he said.
"All kinds of measures are being taken to provide adequate power to farmers' pumpsets. Out of the 4 lakh illegal pumpsets in the state, 2.5 lakh pumpsets were regularised.
The department will provide transformers to pumpsets within 500 meters of the feeders. Solar pumpsets will be provided to pumpsets beyond 500 meters under the Kusum-B scheme. Similarly, feeder solarization is being done under the Kusum-C scheme to provide adequate power to farmers during the day," he said.
"Our govt has set a target of generating 2,400 MW of solar power through feeder solarization of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the solar power plant set up under the Kusum-M scheme at Tondebhavi in Gauribidanur on June 11," he said.
The minister dismissed rumours regarding the discontinuation of free electricity for agricultural pumpsets due to Aadhar-RR number linkage. "This seeding work was done to ascertain how much electricity is being supplied to farmers and how many connections they have.

Along with continuing free electricity up to 10 HP for agricultural pumpsets, adequate electricity will also be supplied for seven hours. There is no doubt about this," he said.
"After the chief minister's recent visit to the hamlets, necessary steps were taken to provide electricity to them and necessary infrastructure was built. Steps were taken to provide electricity to more than 600 hamlet houses," he said.
State sugarcane growers' association members demonstrated outside the zilla panchayat office during the minister's review meeting. Their demands included withdrawing the Aadhar seeding proposal and compensation for farmers whose lands were acquired for high tension lines infrastructure.

Speed immigration records checks, find visa overstayers: US to USCIS, ICE

The United States has launched a sweeping review of visa overstays following the arrest of an Egyptian national accused of setting Americans on fire in Colorado. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Wednesday ordered immigration authorities to speed up checks on all temporary visa holders, after it emerged that 45-year-old Mohammed Soliman had remained in the US illegally since 2022. Soliman was arrested in Boulder, Colorado, after a firebomb attack that left 12 people injured. Prosecutors have charged him with a federal hate crime, alongside multiple state-level felonies. 'This was a shocking terrorist attack,' said Noem. 'Anyone who thinks they can come to America and advocate for antisemitic violence and terrorism – think again. You are not welcome here. 'We will find you, deport you, and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.' Noem said the US would move fast to identify and remove visa overstayers, blaming what she called the Biden administration's weak enforcement. A statement from US Citizenship and Immigration Services said: 'At the direction of Secretary Kristi Noem, US Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and USCIS are ramping up the review of immigration records and will take immediate appropriate actions to crack down on visa overstays stemming from the Biden Administration's failure to enforce the law.' Soliman, who had entered the country on a B-2 visa intended for tourism or family visits, later applied for asylum with his wife and five children. He was granted work authorisation while the case remained pending in immigration court. The Biden-era rule allowed hundreds of thousands of people like Soliman to live and work legally while awaiting their asylum decisions. Trump calls for tighter vetting US President Donald Trump pointed to the Boulder attack to justify a new travel ban affecting 12 countries, including nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Egypt was not among them. Trump also imposed a partial ban on travelers from seven countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. 'The recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas,' Trump said in a video message on Wednesday. 'We don't want them.' White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called the US immigration system 'suicidal' and confirmed that Soliman's wife and five children had been taken into immigration custody. They will be deported. However, months before the Colorado attack, Trump had already instructed US consulates to scrutinise visa applicants' social media posts and deny visas to those with anti-Semitic or 'anti-American' views. 565,000 visa overstays recorded in 2023 According to a 2023 Department of Homeland Security report published in 2024, 565,000 temporary visa holders overstayed their visas that year. About 55,000 eventually left before the fiscal year ended, but the remainder are believed to have stayed on illegally. The overstay rate among student and exchange visa holders was close to 4 per cent. Some nationalities had far higher rates, with 70 per cent of students from Equatorial Guinea, 54 per cent from Eritrea, and 40 per cent from Burma failing to leave on time. For Indian nationals, more than 7,000 on F, M, or J student and exchange visas overstayed in 2023, pushing the overstay rate to 3.8 per cent—more than double the 1.6 per cent recorded in 2020. In the case of business and tourist travellers from India (on B1/B2 visas), US records show: 1,000,020 departures were expected in 2023 12,882 people overstayed The total overstay rate was 1.29 per cent 1.08 per cent are believed to have remained in-country without a recorded departure The US Department of Homeland Security said it would now increase monitoring of all visa holders whose permitted stay has ended. Meanwhile, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal last Friday said that they had close cooperation between India and the United States on migration issues, on the deportation of Indian nationals who are either in illegal status there or who travel illegally. "We take them back once we receive details about them,' he said in the weekly press briefing. He added, 'The update on the numbers is that since January 2025, around 1,080 Indians have returned or been deported from the United States. Of these, about 62 per cent have come on commercial flights.'

Despite police denying permission, Congress leaders in government exerted pressure: R Ashoka

Bengaluru: The government itself is the culprit in the stampede incident that occurred around Chinnaswamy Stadium. We will fight until the case is handed over to a judicial inquiry and the guilty are punished. The police have been made a scapegoat in this incident, said Opposition Leader R. Ashoka, expressing his outrage. Speaking at a press conference, he said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has kept the state's law and order in the dark. This is the result of the "great socialist, fun-loving" Siddaramaiah. If the RCB team had won the IPL, the KPCC team posed for photos. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is the batsman, and DK Shivakumar is the bowler. While DK Shivakumar is trying to bowl out Siddaramaiah, the CM is striving to score a century for five years. Amid their tussle, the people of the state have been hit wicket. Eleven talented youths lost their lives, he alleged. The trophy was in the hands of Congress leaders on the stage. The players who toiled for years were sidelined. Some Congress leaders are calling this celebration a hasty decision. For their own rallies, Congress made extensive preparations in Bengaluru, even during floods. However, no preparations were made for a sports event involving youths. If even one percent of the effort put into Congress rallies had been made here, young lives could have been saved, he said. Commissioner's Suspension For the first time in Karnataka's history, a police commissioner has been suspended. People on social media are saying they stand with the police. The police carried injured youths to hospitals, but no Congress workers were present. Yet, the police have been suspended. We will continue our political fight until justice is served and against making someone a scapegoat, he said. The police commissioner had denied permission, but the FIR states that the RCB franchise decided to hold the event in the evening. This means it was an unauthorized event. If Section 144 had been imposed, no one would have attended. Since it was unauthorized, the program should have been canceled by imposing that section. The government took action against the police to avoid embarrassment. We all say the government is the culprit, and the guilty are within the government. Who instructed the franchise to hold the event? Who brought the cricketers? he questioned. The police had advised against holding events at two locations. Yet, CM Siddaramaiah said the incident didn't happen at Vidhana Soudha but at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Both places are adjacent. Despite the police denying permission, the Congress government took the law into its own hands and held the event. Everyone was busy with photo shoots, and no one cared about the people, he said. Government is the Culprit Initially, they said the district commissioner would investigate. Then, they said the CID would probe. This will be covered up like the MUDA and Valmiki Corporation scams. Since the government itself is the culprit, no one from the government should investigate. A judge must conduct the inquiry. We need to know who pressured for permission and who instructed to hold the event. The fight will continue until then, he stated.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's political secretary K Govindaraju sacked; here's what happened

BENGALURU: K Govindaraju has been relieved from his duties as the Political Secretary to Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah with immediate effect on Friday, according to a notification issued by the state government. Govindaraju, a close aide of Siddaramaiah and a prominent political figure in the state, had been serving in the post since the formation of the current Congress government. Earlier in the day, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah's political adviser and MLC, K Govindaraju, denied media reports claiming he had advised the chief minister against organizing a victory parade for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players from the airport to Vidhana Soudha. Govindaraju dismissed the reports as baseless and clarified that he had made no such suggestion regarding the celebratory event. "My words were misinterpreted. Who am I to advise the chief minister on this matter?" Govindaraju said, clarifying that he had no role in decisions related to the cricket celebration. He further distanced himself from the controversy by stating, "I would be the last person to advise anything on cricket, since I head the Karnataka Olympic Association." Govindaraju's clarification comes in the wake of mounting criticism over the handling of the IPL victory celebrations in Bengaluru, where a stampede during the event claimed 11 lives.
