Singal orders 10 FIRs daily to curb drunk driving, traffic violations

Nagpur: With festivals like Pola and Ganeshotsav approaching, city police have drawn up a comprehensive plan to ensure safety and prevent miscreants from disrupting the festive spirit. Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal has directed his force to register at least 10 FIRs daily for offences such as drunken driving, wrong-side rash driving, and triple-seat violations. The move aims to make roads safer, reduce traffic violations, and streamline traffic flow. The directives were issued at a high-level meeting with city and traffic police officials. Singal stressed that officers must focus on crowd management and crime prevention during festivities. He instructed strict enforcement, including vehicle seizures, to curb reckless road behaviour. To avert law-and-order issues, Singal urged officers to hold coordination meetings with Ganesh mandals, ensuring no provocative idols or decorations trigger controversy. He also highlighted the risk of clashes arising from high liquor consumption during events and pressed for proactive policing. At the crime review meeting, Singal emphasized adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all investigations, calling for disciplined, systematic policing and swift action against offenders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He pointed to the success of recent drives that reduced fatal accidents, claiming 70 lives were saved this year compared to 2024. Eight booked for protesting at Pune police commissioner's office

Demanding action under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, some protesters approached Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma on August 3. Earlier this month, three women had alleged that Kothrud police personnel harassed them and made casteist comments while probing a missing woman's case. The woman, from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had briefly stayed with them in Pune. Pune, Aug 18 (PTI) A case was registered against eight protesters on the charge of unlawful assembly after they demonstrated at the police commissionerate earlier this month seeking action against some police personnel for allegedly assaulting three women and making casteist remarks, an official said. According to police, 15-20 activists entered the Pune Police Commissionerate without permission, raised slogans, and created a ruckus. One of them allegedly tore a letter stating that a preliminary probe had found no substance in the allegations. Bundgarden police recently booked eight demonstrators under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to unlawful assembly, obstructing a public servant, and damage to property, an official said on Monday. The activists have alleged that police from Kothrud and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar barged into the women's accommodation without a warrant.
