The announcement that Brent Hinds was leaving Mastodon came just days before the band was set to perform at the Tool in the Sand music festival this past Sunday (March 9th).
Filling in for Hinds, the band's guitarist of 25 years, would prove no small task, considering the career-spanning festival setlist would include 17 songs. But YouTube axeman Ben Eller was up to it, performing admirably alongside the metal vets on what appeared to be short notice.

Eller took to Instagram to reflect on the weekend and respond to the many fans who've blown up his inbox since the Mastodon performance. He also shared a YouTube short of the show.
'What an incredible weekend playing with @mastodonrocks as a part of @toolinthesand,' Eller wrote. 'You guys who have followed me for a while know how much I love this music, so to be asked to play alongside the band is a TRUE honor.'
He continued: 'I've seen your kind and supportive words for me out there, and it means the world to me! My inbox is so stuffed, there's no way I can respond to every single thing, but know how much I appreciate yall. Thank you all, and thank you to @billy_butterslax , @creamale , and Troy for trusting me to get the job done. Playing the parts of one of my favorite guitarists ever is no easy task, but it was a joy. Cheers, everyone!'
It remains to be seen whether Eller will continue as a replacement for Hinds, as Mastodon have a busy itinerary on the horizon, including a major US co-headlining tour with Coheed and Cambria (get tickets here).
Eller has more than a half-million YouTube subscribers and is well-versed in Mastodon's material, with videos like 'Stuff Mastodon Does' (nearly 1 million views) and the more recent 'What I Learned from Mastodon.' He also displays his skills on his YouTube channel via his long-running guitar lesson series 'This Is Why You Suck at Guitar.' Additionally, he has provided session work for bands like Whitechapel and performed with other acts such as the hair metal tribute Skankbanger and the Southern blues-rock outfit the Kennedy Wood Band.

Barcelona's Baby Prodigy or Summer Lover? Lamine Yamal Sparks Outrage Over Trip With 30-Year-Old OnlyFans Star

Barcelona's baby-faced football phenom Lamine Yamal may only be 17 (with a July birthday loading), but the headlines around him are anything but juvenile. The Spanish internet is in chaos after it was revealed that the teen wonder allegedly spent his summer vacay in Italy with none other than 30-year-old influencer, fitness baddie, and certified OnlyFans femme fatale Fati Vázquez. You read that correctly. Thirty. Three-zero. Twelve years his senior. Let that marinate. The story exploded after gossip juggernaut @lacuernis posted that the Blaugrana baller and the influencer-turned-content-queen dropped matching crumbs of a shared location on their Instagram stories, practically screaming 'We're not hiding, we're vibing.' And if that wasn't messy enough, the pair allegedly posted multiple photos from what looked like the exact same Italian backdrop, giving 'soft launch' energy with the subtlety of a fire alarm. For the girls in the back who might not be familiar, Miss Fati is no stranger to the spotlight. She's a sculpted, sultry presence in Spain's fitness scene and a well-known name on social media (and yes, behind a paywall too). Her brand? Bold bikinis, bodycon dresses, protein shakes, and high-glam thirst traps. And now? She's got Europe's most precious football prodigy attached to her name. We love a woman who enters the chat and sets it on fire. Now here's where it gets even more deliciously confusing. Spanish journalist Javi Hoyos, resident mood-ruiner and self-proclaimed fact-checker, crashed the party by reporting that no, they're not a couple. According to Hoyos, Fati's presence on the trip was 'on account of someone else' and not directly tied to Yamal. (Sure, Javi. Blame it on a plus one. Cute.) But if you thought that little whisper of denial would silence the speculation, think again. Hours after the denial went live, Fati herself, queen of non-verbal shade, uploaded a cryptic IG story that sent her followers into a spiral. No words, no captions. Just a sultry, knowing lip-sync to Beéle's emotional slow jam 'No Tiene Sentido'. The lyrics? Not exactly subtle: 'I don't know why we're so far away / It doesn't make sense that with the way we feel / You are somewhere else… we've already met / We've experienced a couple of things… it's not normal.' Sis knew exactly what she was doing. It was giving 'I can't say it, but I'll sing it with my eyes.' The Spanish internet? Shook. Comment sections are burning. Editor's Letter: Car and Driver Turns 70

I can still remember C/D's 50th, largely because embarrassment is hard to forget. The issue wasn't the issue—the July 2005 magazine celebrated our first 50 in an entertaining way. It was the party we threw that haunts me. For those of you who attended our 50th birthday bash at Indianapolis's lesser-known track, we were happy to see you but must apologize for a sparsely attended and disorganized event whose sole claim to fame is that it was better than the Fyre Festival. At least Grand Funk Railroad showed up and played "We're an American Band." Subscribe to Car and Driver There's no party this time around, but the issue you're holding in your hands is a celebration of a 70-year commitment to cars. Over the decades, we've driven most everything on four wheels, a few on three, and even some on two. We've tested, tortured, and raced because it's fun but also because it's the best way to vet vehicles and technology and serve our mission to help you find the best cars. We're skeptical but also excitable and interested in celebrating greatness, wherever it may come from. A parallel mission of C/D has been to share the joy of our work, to take you on a journey to the edge and back. Car and Driver Tony Quiroga Editor-in-Chief Tony Quiroga is a 20-year-veteran Car and Driver editor, writer, and car reviewer and the 19th editor-in-chief for the magazine since its founding in 1955. He has subscribed to Car and Driver since age six. "Growing up, I read every issue of Car and Driver cover to cover, sometimes three or more times. It's the place I wanted to work since I could read," Quiroga says. He moved from Automobile Magazine to an associate editor position at Car and Driver in 2004. Over the years, he has held nearly every editorial position in print and digital, edited several special issues, and also helped produce C/D's early YouTube efforts. He is also the longest-tenured test driver for Lightning Lap, having lapped Virginia International Raceway's Grand Course more than 2000 times over 12 years. Read full bio
