MILAN (AP) — Massimiliano Allegri was named AC Milan's new coach on Friday, charged with restoring to glory the crisis-hit team that he won Serie A with nearly 15 years ago.
Allegri replaces Sergio Conceicao, who was fired after guiding Milan to an eighth-placed finish in Serie A that left the Rossoneri out of Europe.

'AC Milan is pleased to announce that Massimiliano Allegri has been appointed as the head coach of the men's first team,' the club said in a statement that did not include any contract details.
Allegri's last two jobs were with Juventus. He was fired a year ago by the Bianconeri for an ugly outburst directed at the referees during the Italian Cup final.
Allegri won the Italian league for the first time with Milan in 2011, then guided Juventus to five straight titles from 2015 to 2019.

San Diego Police Department urges peace, warns against violence in anti-ICE protests

(Above: Report by FOX 5/KUSI's Jennifer Franco on May 30 about the ICE operations at Buona Forchetta) SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Police Department issued a statement Friday regarding the federal immigration enforcement actions happening nationwide. Following on the heels of an announcement made earlier this week by the San Diego County Chiefs and Sheriff's Association, SDPD said it 'fully supports the right to peacefully assemble and exercise free speech' and that it recognizes how the actions taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have 'deeply affected' the community. What is the difference between democracy and authoritarian rule? However, the department warned that damaging property or conducting other violent acts will have legal consequences. 'The San Diego Police Department does not enforce federal immigration laws, nor do we inquire about immigration status,' the department stated. 'Our mission is focused on public safety.' At the end of last month, ICE agents conducted two immigration enforcement operations at an Italian restaurant, Buona Forchetta, and its sister restaurant in South Park. San Diego police officers were also called in to assist after the heightened response led to a crowd of people gathering around the scene, attempting to prevent the ICE agents and their vehicles from leaving. The warnings come ahead of another wave of protests planned for Saturday called 'No Kings Day,' a nationwide movement which is aimed against several policies and actions made by the Trump administration, including strict immigration enforcement. Here's where 'No Kings' events are happening in San Diego County. SDPD's reaction to the federal crackdown on illegal immigration echoes a similar sentiment made by the county's law enforcement association on Tuesday. Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy, who is also the president of the San Diego County Chiefs and Sheriff's Association, said assaults on law enforcement or acts like looting, vandalism and arson 'will not be tolerated.' 'Should federal authorities request our assistance due to safety concerns, local law enforcement will respond as necessary to ensure the protection of all involved—officers, agents, and members of the public alike,' her statement on behalf of the association read. 'This support is strictly for safety and security purposes and does not reflect participation in immigration enforcement.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Nigerian leader's pardon of executed Ogoni activists draws criticisms

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has posthumously pardoned nine environmental activists executed 30 years ago by the then-ruling military junta, drawing sharp criticism and anger from activists who argued on Friday that the individuals committed no crime. During an event Thursday to mark the 26th anniversary of Nigeria's return to democracy, Tinubu pardoned the 'Ogoni Nine,' including celebrated writer Ken Saro-Wiwa, and described them as 'national heroes.' The men were convicted of murdering four local chiefs and were hanged in 1995 by the then-military regime led by Gen. Sani Abacha. They were part of the Ogoni ethnic group in the oil-rich Niger Delta region, and had protested environmental pollution in the region by multinational oil companies, particularly Shell. Their trial and murder sparked international outrage at the time, with rights groups calling it unjust and lacking credible evidence. Local rights and civil society groups described Tinubu's pardon as misleading and 'insulting.' 'A pardon is given to people who have been convicted of wrongdoing," said Ken Henshaw, executive director of local rights group We The People. Henshaw said the process leading to their execution did not prove that they were guilty of the allegations against them. 'For him (Tinubu) to say he wants to pardon them is a misnomer,' he added. The Nigerian government must also recognize formally that the murdered activists are 'innocent of any crime and fully exonerate them,' said Isa Sanusi, Amnesty International Nigeria's director. 'Full justice for the Ogoni Nine is only a first step," said Sanusi. 'Much more needs to be done to get justice for communities in the Niger Delta, including holding Shell and other oil companies to account for the damage they have done and continue to do.' ____ Follow AP's Africa coverage at:
