'Chansiri owes explanation to players and fans'
No words from the chairman.It's more than two weeks since it emerged wages at Sheffield Wednesday hadn't been paid in full on time. One 59-word statement, including an apology, has been issued since. That was 13 days ago. Mercifully, the non-playing staff, coaches and some players have now received their wages. Some players, however, are still waiting.Meanwhile, by Tuesday, the club and owner Dejphon Chansiri have to respond to their EFL charges over payment delays.Chansiri has never been backwards in coming forwards in the past. Why is there silence now?In September 2023, for example, he issued a statement threatening not to put any more money into the club and said: "If you say you are the owner and I am the custodian, then show me how to be the good owner and help save your club."He followed that up with: "If you want me to leave, then show me how to run the club and invest the money before I do that. You have no right to ask me to leave."The truth is Chansiri, like every other chairman, is a custodian, as much as he doesn't like that description. He owes it to the fans, staff and players to front up and explain what is happening. Will wages be paid on time and in full for June? How does he plan to keep things going financially? Is he prepared now to sell the club and, if so, what are his demands?That final question might be the most important one. A piece in the Sheffield Star at the end of last week quoted an anonymous intermediary who said: "What's been especially difficult is that I've had positive conversations with people that, at a reasonable valuation, would like to proceed."But for whatever reason, the representation from the club - be that the chairman or advisors - have got a figure in their head of double and beyond that realistic number."Is this true? And if so, why?On Tuesday night, we're doing a special programme on the future of Sheffield Wednesday which will be broadcast on the BBC Sport website. When we asked fans who they wanted to hear from, the overwhelming majority said the chairman.Some also said they don't want to hear anything from the chairman other than he's off and he's sold the club. I get that. Yet while that remains not the case, isn't it time to say something?The request has been made for the chairman to do an interview before Tuesday's programme.This time, there shouldn't be bravado. Simply humility and a willingness to do what is right.Let's go back to that statement in 2023: "I may not have been born here and I will probably not die here but one thing I can say is that I will always try to do my best for Wednesday."What is best for Wednesday right now? Explaining the situation, providing clarity and - according to many fans - finding a buyer and selling at a reasonable price. If that isn't possible, tell us why.

Bob MacIntyre puts sore losers to shame with classy response to US Open heartache
So much for Justin Rose being a shoo-in for golf's 'most gracious loser of the year' award. At the very least, Bob MacIntyre has provided some enriching competition for his Ryder Cup partner with his own classy response to agonising defeat at the US Open on Sunday night. In an era in which the entitlement of the multi-millionaire pros continues to reach shameless and unprecedented heights, the game surely owes the British duo a debt for their well-timed sportsmanship. While Rose hugged and congratulated Rory McIlroy after watching the world No 2 hole the putt to beat him in the Masters play-off, MacIntyre provided his own lesson in succumbing with honour. Unlike certain runners-up of recent US Open vintage who screeched out of the car park moments after their fate was confirmed, MacIntyre, the 28-year-old from Oban, hung around the Oakmont clubhouse to shake the hand of JJ Spaun. The American appreciated the gesture, calling MacIntyre 'a great guy and a great player', but his admiration only multiplied when shown the clip of his reaction when Spaun pulled off his grandstand moment. MacIntyre had finished more than half an hour before, coming back from an overnight seven-shot deficit to take the clubhouse lead on one-over. As a mark of his quality in a storm-delayed final round blighted by a course covered in puddles, MacIntyre was the only player who started the day in the top 20 who broke 70, with a 68. Spaun was also on one-over as he stepped on to the penultimate teebox. At this stage, many wondered why MacIntyre had not headed directly to the range to stay loose for a play-off. But with the light fading, he had been told by officials that if it did go to two extra holes, they would be held over to Monday. So MacIntyre took a seat in the clubhouse and watched the denouement on television. He first saw Tyrrell Hatton bogey the 17th and 18th to lose his chance – the Englishman eventually finished with a share of fourth before labelling the course set-up as 'unfair' – and then looked on as Spaun birdied the 17th after a brilliant drive on to the green. One ahead, Spaun was 65 feet away from the hole on the 18th in two and in three-putt territory. There was still hope for MacIntyre. But then, Spaun holed out for an outrageous birdie and a two-shot victory and as his putter disappeared into the air and the tears poured down his face, the coverage switched to the vanquished. Except MacIntyre was not sitting there with his head in his hands, he was applauding, with a huge smile and exclaiming 'Wow!' Later, MacIntyre explained his response. 'J J won the golf tournament,' he said. 'He's dreamed of it. Everyone's dreamed of that moment. For him to pour in the winning putt, I mean, nothing I can do. Fair play. Rose felt the same after Augusta. But in a week in which we witnessed McIlroy throwing clubs and smashing tee-boxes and of first blanking the media before consenting to talk and declaring ' I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do, yeah', the injection of humility was much welcome. Up to a career-high 12th in the world, MacIntyre must be one of the favourites for next month's Open at Royal Portrush, the Ulster links where he finished sixth on his major debut six years ago. 'There's no reason why I can't win a major championship,' he said. 'I thought I had this one, but, yeah, it's about majors. That's my goal now.'

Wrexham sign striker Hardie from Plymouth
Wrexham have signed Plymouth Argyle's Scottish striker Ryan Hardie for an undisclosed 28-year-old, who began his career with Rangers, scored 10 goals in the Championship last season as Argyle were relegated to League also scored the winner from the penalty spot against Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round in February, one of 12 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions in 2024-25."I'm delighted to get the move done, I'm really happy to get it done so early and I cannot wait to get going," Hardie told Wrexham's official website."The last couple of seasons, it's been good getting experience in the EFL Championship and it's experience I can lean on now."He has signed a contract until the end of the 2027-28 season and is Wrexham's first signing of the summer as they prepare for a return to English football's second tier for the first time in 43 years.
