The YSRCP leaders criticised Naidu's governance and demanded accountability for failures on various fronts.

The Bihar assignment is also being seen by political observers as Mayawati's bid to give Akash a base to prove his worth and regain stature within the party Another Dalit outfit has thrown its hat into the ring for the battle of Bihar votes. Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, considered a Dalit messiah and a four-time chief minister of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, has made her intentions clear to contest all 243 seats in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls. She has entrusted her nephew, Akash Anand, with the task, once considered her successor but later fell from grace, only to be brought back into the party fold. Akash Anand, who is the BSP's chief national coordinator, has been tasked with not only winning over the Dalit voters but also other backward castes through 'Bhaichara Committees" (brotherhood committees) and strengthening the party in Bihar. Party veteran and Mayawati's trusted aide Ramji Gautam, a Rajya Sabha lawmaker, has also been deputed to assist Akash. Both held a party cadre meeting in Patna on June 26, and since then, the formation of Bhaichara Committees has begun. BSP has made it clear that it will not ally with any party in the Bihar polls and will contest all 243 seats. Akash Anand has the onerous task of picking the right candidates for all 243 seats and putting up an impressive fight to regain his stature within the party. The BSP, which formed the government four times in UP with Mayawati as the chief minister, has had a continuous downfall since 2012. The BSP has only one MLA in UP right now. The party peaked by winning five assembly seats in the 2000 Bihar assembly polls, and since then has managed to pick up a few odd seats in subsequent elections, failing to win any in the 2020 edition. Akash Anand, once considered Mayawati's successor, was suddenly expelled from the party by her aunt earlier this year in March. Just before that, Akash's father-in-law and senior BSP leader Ashok Sidharth was also expelled. Mayawati had accused Ashok Sidharth of factionalism and anti-party activities. But it was her expulsion of nephew Akash Anand that shocked the political class. Mayawati said that Akash was under the undue influence of his father-in-law and running a parallel structure within the BSP. As shocking as the expulsion was, within weeks, Akash Anand publicly apologised and was swiftly reinstated by Mayawati, who appointed him as the chief national coordinator, albeit with a warning to keep away from party affairs in UP and his father-in-law. Akash had then stated that he would devote his life to the party and that Mayawati was the supreme leader. Since then, he has been keeping a low profile and maintaining a distance from his father-in-law. On June 26, he was sent by Mayawati to the Bihar party workers' meeting, and this would be his first big assignment since the comeback. The Bihar assignment is also being seen by political observers as Mayawati's bid to give Akash a base to prove his worth and regain stature within the party. With union minister Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Jitan Ram Manjhi of HAM also vying to consolidate Dalits behind them in Bihar, it would be a challenging task for Akash Anand. Sexual harassment at workplace is antithetical to the core constitutional values of equality, liberty, justice and dignity of individual, Supreme Court judge N Kotiswar Singh said on Thursday, while mooting for creation of a conducive work environment for women. Sexual harassment at workplace is antithetical to constitutional values: SC judge The judge was speaking at the launch of a dedicated portal for workplace sexual harassment complaints by the Delhi high court. The portal was launched in the presence of chief justice DK Upadhyay and justice Prathiba M Singh, chairperson of Delhi high court's internal complaints committee (ICC). 'Any such act which negates the conducive atmosphere of the workplace has to be forbidden or prohibited. Sexual harassment demeans women, acts as a barrier to her creativity, slows down the efficacy causing immense mental and physical trauma, which is completely antithetical to the enabling principle of equality, liberty and justice– which forms the core values of the Constitution,' he said. He added, 'This menace, has to be taken head on and it is from this perspective that lies the significance and importance of this act and also assumes importance of the fact that today large number of women are joining and becoming partners in nation building exercise and are contributing meaningfully in all walks of life, which were exclusively reserved for men. There is a paradigm shift that is taking place, therefore it is incumbent on all of us to ensure that the workplace remains safe, secure, encouraging and not plagued by these insidious practices.' In his speech the judge also laid emphasis on some of the aspects that act as hurdle in ensuring a safe workplace for women including the cultural resistance in acknowledge certain acts of sexual harassment, mindset that women's role is confined to domestic sphere. 'One of the greatest challenge is the deep rooted cultural resistance in acknowledging certain acts of sexual harassment. In fact many organisations consider these complaints of sexual harassment as a threat of their reputation, rather than providing opportunities of growth. There is a need to sensitise the people that there are certain acts which are prohibited, which cannot be tolerated,' he said. Justice Singh said that it is important for men to understand what makes a female counterpart uncomfortable and to extend help or cooperation in case they face inappropriate behaviour. 'It is also equally important for men to extend help or cooperation whenever such a woman faces any such kind of inappropriate behaviour from the men. Not only cooperation but empathetic attitude. Certainly not sympathy. Because what women require is not an act of charity, but it is a solemn obligation on all of us to ensure the dignity of women,' he said.

Samajwadi Party hits back at UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak over directive to display names during Kanwar Yatra
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leaders hit back at Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Friday, amid the row over the government's directive to display the names of the shops along the Kanwar yatra routes. Dy CM Pathak had alleged that SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra compared Kanwar pilgrims to terrorists, to which Mehrotra replied that the Dy CM was lying. 'UP Deputy Chief Minister lies. Nowhere did we say anything about Kanwar Yatris but about the BJP government,' he told ANI. He added, 'He (Brajesh Pathak) is also the Health Minister, but he never speaks about medicines, treatment and check-ups in hospitals. Today, people are dying due to a lack of medicines, treatment and check-ups.' Launching an attack against the BJP government, Mehrotra reiterated his remark 'no difference between the BJP government and terrorists' and said how terrorists in Pahalgam asked people about their religion before shooting them; similarly, the BJP government is also asking about the shopkeepers' religion and caste. 'There's no difference between the BJP government and terrorists. Like how in Pahalgam, terrorists asked about religion and killed 26 people, similarly, by asking about caste and religion, the BJP is attacking, committing atrocities and injustice,' Mehrotra said. MLA Mehrotra added, 'I want to ask BJP members, what is terrorism? If someone is checked after removing their pants, this is also terrorism. If a Dalit is urinated in their mouth, this is also terrorism. Atrocities against Dalits, women, and if the backwards class is not allowed to put up a shop and asked about their religion, this is also terrorism.' He alleged that BJP workers are conducting checks on the Kanwar Yatra route, and they forced a shopkeeper to remove his pants. 'If Kanwar Yatris ask a shopkeeper, I don't object. But the BJP govt issued a Tughlaqi order to put up a name plate, the shopkeeper's caste and then, if the administration and police check, it's still fine, but their party members are conducting checks, and police arrested five people in Muzaffarnagar who were committing acts of terror,' he said. Samajwadi Party leader Awadhesh Prasad called Pathak's statement baseless. Prasad said, 'Dy CM's statement is baseless and shows his narrow mindset. CM Yogi has issued an order to display nameplates. This will divide the society. Such a decision was never issued when we were in power. This is everyone's nation. Everyone fought for the nation's independence together.' Earlier, defending the move, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, told ANI, 'The Samajwadi Party leaders are constantly making rubbish statements on Kanwar Yatra. They are comparing Kanwar Yatra devotees with the terrorists. It is highly condemnable. Samajwadi Party wants to implement Sharia law and do appeasement politics in UP. We are determined to organise a systematic and safe Kanwar Yatra in UP. It is the right of every buyer to know from whom they are buying things. Every seller must display their name.' (ANI)
