Singer, actor embraces rock for new album, announces Asian tour
Singer and actor Kim Jae-joong is back with a new album rooted in rock.
Kim will release his new mini album, "Beauty in Chaos," on May 19. A teaser image shared on his official social media channels features a shattered electric guitar and scattered fragments of broken glass, building anticipation for the powerful new music he is about to unveil.
Previously, Kim hinted at the rock concept of the album by posting the phrase "Rock Jaejoong is back" on his personal social media.
Leading up to and following the album's release, Kim has been actively engaging with fans. Earlier this year, he visited Japan, Macao and other locations for his birthday celebration fan meeting event, "J-Party Home." He also recently wrapped up a special fan meeting in Chongqing, China.
Right after the album's release, Kim will kick off the "Beauty in Chaos" Asian tour, with concerts at Jangchung Arena in Seoul on May 24 and 25, where he will perform tracks from the new album for the first time. The tour continues in Japan on May 31 and June 1, with additional dates and locations to be announced soon.

Court awards 3 million won fine for malicious comment, after the writer had already been fined for the same offense last year A 40-year-old woman previously punished for contempt against IU has been sentenced to a fine for another malicious comment, once again against the K-pop superstar. Seoul Central District Court found the defendant surnamed Kim guilty of insult, a criminal offense in South Korea, sentencing her to 3 million won ($2,200) fine. The defendant was accused of posting sexually offensive comments against the 32-year-old singer and actor, along with the accusation that her agency Edam Entertainment had bribed the judges in recent litigations. Kim denied writing the comments, and claimed that they did not specify a target and it did not damage IU's reputation. The court rejected the defendant's claims, pointing out that Kim had already been punished for similar crimes and that she had not been forgiven by the victim. But the court issued a relatively lenient sentence in giving her the same punishment handed when she had no priors, as the offense had been committed before she was indicted for her previous offense. In the previous online attack against the victim, Kim wrote comments disparaging IU for her singing and attire in April 2022. Kim said the comments merely expressed her personal preference and that her linguistic skills are limited due to her mental condition, but the court sentenced her to 3 million won fine in December of last year. Edam Entertainment has been engaged in legal battles against those posting malicious comments against IU, with the agency saying in November that it has filed for criminal punishment against 180 individuals. IU, one of the most popular and influential figures in the Korean pop culture, has been subject to online attacks for years. She was recently targeted by supporters of disgraced ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol, expelled for his martial law imposition in December, when she paid for food and drinks to be provided for protesters calling for Yoon's impeachment earlier this year.

EXO's Kai expands solo tour to US
Kai of EXO will take his first solo tour to the US, announced label SM Entertainment on Thursday. He is planning to visit five cities in the country — Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and New York — from Aug. 28 to Sept. 6. The performer hinted at the expansion last month when he took to the stage for the label's group concert in Los Angeles, saying 'I might be able to meet you again this summer.' He kicked off tour 'Kaion' in May in Seoul and will have a show in Macao on Saturday. The remaining stops for the Asian leg of the tour are Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei, Manila, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Yokohama, Japan. The tour comes after the release of his fourth solo EP 'Wait On Me,' which topped the iTunes Top Albums Chart in 30 regions.

G-Dragon, Le Sserafim, Babymonster push on with overseas concerts amid COVID-19 surge in Asia
K-pop companies refrain from cancellations as no official restrictions are in place Despite the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases across parts of Asia, K-pop stars, including G-Dragon, Le Sserafim and Babymonster, are pressing ahead with their overseas concerts. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) on Monday, countries including China, Thailand and Singapore have recently reported a notable increase in COVID-19 cases. While the situation in Korea remains relatively stable, the agency warned that a summer resurgence is possible due to international travel and regional outbreaks. The NB.1.8.1 variant — now dominant in the affected countries — is known for its strong transmissibility and immune-evasive properties, although its severity and fatality rate remain relatively low. The KDCA is advising high-risk travelers to these countries to get vaccinated before departure. G-Dragon of Big Bang is currently on his 'Ubermensch' world tour, performing across nine Asian cities including Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hong Kong and Bangkok as well as Sydney and Melbourne in Australia. He is slated to perform in Macao for three concerts starting June 7. Babymonster, also on an Asia tour, wrapped up its 'Hello Monsters' concerts in Singapore and Hong Kong in May and is preparing for its final Southeast Asian stop in Bangkok from June 7-8. YG Entertainment confirmed it has no plans to postpone or cancel the shows. 'We're monitoring the situation closely, but the outbreak is limited to certain regions. Everything is proceeding as planned,' a YG official told The Korea Herald on Wednesday. Le Sserafim is scheduled to perform in Taiwan and Hong Kong in July, followed by concerts in the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore in August as part of its 'Easy Crazy Hot' world tour. Source Music's parent company, Hybe, also confirmed that all shows will proceed as scheduled. JYP Entertainment's acts — Niziu, Nmixx and Xdinary Heroes — are also expected to hold small-scale performances in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, respectively, in the second half of the year, with no changes announced. An industry official noted that unless governments issue specific warnings or event restrictions, K-pop agencies are unlikely to take unilateral action regarding concert postponements.
