Military police investigating Facebook page filled with racism, misogyny
OTTAWA — Military police say they have reopened an investigation into a Facebook group the Canadian Army's commanding officer describes as 'abhorrent.'
Lt.-Gen. Michael Wright says he was made aware of allegations about a Facebook group called the 'Blue Hackle Mafia' on June 25 and that they involved 'members of the Canadian Army.'
Wright says the group's posts featured 'racist, misogynistic, homophobic and antisemitic comments and images.'
The group was initially reported to the army chain of command last December and the Office of the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal says the case was transferred to the unit for a disciplinary investigation.
The investigation was reopened by military police on June 27, according to an emailed statement from the provost marshal's office.
Wright says all members of the Canadian Army need to 'hold themselves to the highest standards' and anyone caught engaging in this type of online behaviour could 'face administrative and/or disciplinary consequences.'

Two people were taken to hospital after separate crashes involving motorcycles in Winnipeg Thursday night. One person was taken to hospital in unstable condition after a crash between a motorcycle and a car at around 9:40 p.m. on Osborne Street near Don Avenue, Winnipeg police said. A news release issued Friday around noon said he remained unstable with serious injuries.

This marks the 19th homicide in the SPVM jurisdiction since the beginning of the year. Emergency services were called around 8:30 p.m. that day regarding a man who had been shot in the parking lot of Angrignon Park, in the Southwest borough. 'He was seriously wounded by gunfire in the upper body,' SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils told The Canadian Press. He was then transported to a hospital where he was treated in critical condition since June 24 before succumbing to his injuries on Friday. 'One or more suspects reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle,' added Chèvrefils. 'A perimeter was set up to secure the scene for investigators and forensic technicians so they could analyze the site and try to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.' According to the SPVM, a shell casing was found at the scene. Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit are now in charge of the case.
