Plane with five aboard missing in Siberia, Russia says
(Reuters) -A plane with five people aboard, including two pilots, went missing in the deep forests of Siberia on Tuesday, Russia's civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia said.
The Antonov An-2, a Soviet mass-produced single-engine biplane aircraft widely used for agricultural and forestry purposes, issued distressed signals over the forests of Yakutia in far northeastern Russia, TASS news agency reported, citing the local emergency ministry's office.
A search and rescue plane has been sent to locate the aircraft that was performing forestry aerial reconnaissance, Rosaviatsia said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.

Firefighters prevented the fire in the concrete building from spreading to the temple's main hall, a largely wooden structure. The cause of the fire was under investigation, Kang said. BONGAWAN: Several blocks of old shop lots built in 1939 were destroyed in a fire that broke out early Tuesday, also damaging several vehicles. The fire was reported at about 5.30am. Advertisement Kimanis Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Nelson Ponji said the station received an emergency call at 5.38am via the MER999 hotline. 'A total of 24 personnel were dispatched to the scene, comprising seven from the Kimanis station, eight from Papar and seven from Beaufort,' he told Daily Express. He said the operation was supported by four police officers and supervised by Papar BBP Chief Rozlan Osman. Firefighting assets mobilised included one LFRT from Kimanis with seven personnel, one FRT from Papar with six personnel, one LFRT from Beaufort with five personnel, one EMRS from Papar with two personnel, one Vigo from Beaufort with two personnel and one Vigo from Papar with one personnel. Nelson said the fire involved three blocks of old two-storey non-permanent shop buildings. 'The first block, consisting of eight shop units measuring 30x80 feet each, was completely destroyed, while the second and third blocks, each with four shop units measuring 30x60 feet per unit, were also gutted,' he said. Firefighters carried out suppression efforts using three 600-foot hose lines with six nozzles, drawing water from both fire engines and nearby hydrants. No casualties were reported. Spain gradually restoring power after outage on Canaries' La Palma
MADRID (Reuters) -Spain's grid operator, Redeia, said on Tuesday it was gradually restoring power on La Palma after the Canary island suffered a blackout. The power cut on the archipelago's third-smallest island was caused by the failure of a generator at the Los Guinchos power plant in eastern La Palma, the regional government said in a statement, citing utility company Endesa. The outage follows a mass blackout across most of Spain and Portugal on April 28 that caused gridlock across cities and left thousands of people stranded on trains or stuck in elevators.
