Sacha Jenkins Dies: Journalist Behind Wu-Tang Clan, 50 Cent & Louis Armstrong Docs Was 53
Sacha Jenkins, a hip-hop journalist and documentarian known for Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men (2019) and Louis Armstrong's Black & Blues (2022), has died. He was 53.
Deadline can confirm the Emmy nominee's death after his wife Raquel Cepeda asked fans to 'please respect our family's privacy during this difficult moment' as they prepare an official statement.

Born August 22, 1971 in Philadelphia, Jenkins launched the graffiti zine Graphic Scenes & Xplicit Language in 1989, and the groundbreaking hip-hop newspaper Beat Down shortly after. He co-founded the hip-hop magazine Ego Trip in 1994, which also launched the VH1 reality series The (White) Rapper Show in 2007.
As a documentary filmmaker, Jenkins spoke to Deadline when he made his directorial debut at Sundance Film Festival with the 2015 urban fashion exploration Fresh Dressed.
'It's so amazing how there's so much love and respect for storytelling,' he said of the Park City, Utah film festival. 'Before I did this, I was a journalist, so storytelling is extremely important. And to see the dedication and respect that storytellers get, for me it's almost overwhelming how much love and support I'm getting. I'm like, 'Woah, it's not even about me. It's about the story, but thank you!''
Jenkins also served as a writer and producer on such docs as Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men (2019), Bitchin': The Sound and Fury of Rick James (2021), Louis Armstrong's Black & Blues (2022) and All Up in the Biz (2023).
Jenkins is survived by wife Raquel, son Marceau and stepdaughter Djali Brown-Cepeda.

The Toronto International Film Festival is opening its 50th edition on Sept. 4 with a look back at one of the Great White North's own: legendary SCTV comedic actor-turned-comedy superstar, John Candy in the Colin Hanks directed, Ryan Reynolds produced new documentary, John Candy: I Like Me. That second part of the title, of course, is a nod to Candy's famous line in John Hughes' Planes, Trains and Automobiles, when his goofy character Del Griffith stands up to the cynical Neal Page and exclaims, 'I like me.' One of Candy's big breakout movies stateside was 1984's Splash in which he co-starred with Hanks' father, Tom Hanks. Why Alexis Bledel Had to Pull Out of Emmys Consideration for 'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 6
Alexis Bledel made a surprise return as Emily in the series finale of The Handmaid's Tale, but she won't be eligible for an Emmy Award for her guest appearance. According to Variety, she was submitted to be considered for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series but had to be removed from the category due to a change in Emmys rules. The update states that actors who were previously nominated in the lead or supporting acting categories for a show are disqualified from being nominated in the guest star category for that same show. The Television Academy informed Bledel's team that, due to this change, she would be moved to the supporting actress pool, but Bledel instead opted to withdraw from consideration, Variety reports. Bledel already won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Handmaid's in 2017. She was then nominated for supporting actress in 2018, and then as guest actress again in 2020 and 2021. While her name won't be appearing on the ballot, The Handmaid's Tale still has 35 submissions for awards this year, according to Variety. Bledel, who parted ways with the Hulu series in season 5, makes a cameo in the show's final episode, which aired on May 27. 'It was an immediate yes,' she told The Hollywood Reporter of making her return. 'It felt right to bring closure to Emily's journey and offer the audience a sense of completion. Bruce put together such a kind and talented group, and so many of the original crew were still there in season six. The production runs like a well-oiled machine—everyone brings their best. I'm excited to see what they create in [sequel series] The Testaments.'

Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre plans to publish a book, Independent, that will explain her switch in party affiliation to no party preference. According to an announcement from publisher Legacy Lit, Jean-Pierre 'didn't come to her decision to be an Independent lightly. She has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden. In 2020, she joined Biden's campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harris's chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary. In an Instagram post, Jean-Pierre said that when she is stopped by people around the country, 'the number one question they ask is, 'Karine, how do we get out of this? How do we protect our democracy? How do we protect vulnerable communities among us? What do we do next?'' The book, she said, will be her answer. 'In an era of disinformation, misinformation, the regressiveness of social policy, what we are seeing currently right now, what I have decided to do, and I really have thought long and hard about this, is to follow my own compass.' She added, 'I think we need to stop thinking in boxes and think outside of our boxes, and not be so partisan.' The book will be published on October 21. Jean-Pierre was the first Black woman and first openly gay person to serve as White House press secretary. She succeeded Jen Psaki in 2022, and served until the end of Biden's term. Her book will be only the latest tome examining the Biden White House.
