Andy Murray boasts a massive net worth estimated at £110million, but having the funds to afford one luxury purchase wasn't enough to deter him from ditching it soon after

Tennis legend Andy Murray's brief fling with his Ferrari ended abruptly as he decided to part ways with the sports car shortly after purchasing it.
The Scot, who turned pro in 2005, began making his mark on the ATP Tour early on and won eight tournaments in his first three years. However, 2009 marked a significant shift for Murray, who secured six tournament wins that year, including two ATP Masters 1000 events.
With his prize money mounting and an additional two victories in 2010, upgrading his wheels was high on his agenda, particularly after passing his driving test that year. The Glaswegian has the means to buy any car on the market considering he boasts a net worth of £110million.
That's according to the tennis icon's rank on the latest Sunday Times Rich List, which was released just last month. While he learnt to drive in a Volkswagen Polo, Murray felt a more flashy motor would be fitting given his burgeoning success on the tour, leading him to shell out £177,000 on a red Ferrari F430.
Despite the allure of the luxury vehicle, he chose to sell it after a swift U-turn. In addition to the eye-watering price tag, he also reportedly had to fork out £100,000 for the car's insurance.
That was due to him being deemed 'high risk' by insurers due to being under 25, male and a new driver at the time. He disclosed in a 2016 interview that the attention he garnered from driving the car played a crucial role in his decision to let it go. And it ended with him reverting to a much more modest model.

Murray parted ways with his Ferrari F430 after only a few months

"When I started to do quite well on the tour I thought I'd treat myself to a bright red Ferrari," he told The Telegraph. "I had always had a soft spot for them as a car brand and, when I was in the position to afford one, I decided to go for it.
"However, I had to pay an incredible amount to get insured on it and, after a couple of weeks of driving it around, I realised it wasn't quite my style."
He added that the compact size of the car posed challenges when he wanted to drive friends around. And he couldn't even fit his tennis gear into the Italian machine, which helped confirm his decision to ditch it.
"I'm not flash by any means, but a bright red Ferrari is a definite head-turner and I hated that," Murray added. "It was also incredibly impractical, particularly when it came to finding space for a friend or for my tennis bag, so I decided to sell it after a few months."

It was a full circle moment for Murray, who initially splashed out £200,000 on an Aston Martin. That's before he reverted back to the VW Polo he learnt to drive in, which remains in his ownership more than 15 years on.
It speaks to Murray's humble nature that he still owns that car despite boasting a nine-figure net worth. But that doesn't mean he hasn't come to appreciate other luxury models in recent years.
His current collection is understood to include a Mercedes AMG GTS, which reportedly came with a tennis ball paint job. He's also believed to own a Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace and a BMW i8.

New favourite installed for Cardiff City manager job following Aaron Ramsey bombshell
New favourite installed for Cardiff City manager job following Aaron Ramsey bombshell Cardiff City have suffered two major setbacks in their search for Omer Riza's successor Aaron Ramsey is set to leave Cardiff City in a move to Mexico (Image: David Price/Arsenal FC via Getty Images ) Des Buckingham has been installed as the new favourite for the Cardiff City job. The Bluebirds have suffered two significant setbacks over the last three days in their quest to appoint a new manager; on Friday, Nathan Jones signed a new long-term deal with Championship side Charlton to put all speculation linking him with the position firmly to bed. And secondly on Sunday, it emerged Aaron Ramsey will not be taking the reins at his boyhood club but will instead up sticks and move to Mexico to join Guadalajara-based Pumas in order to prolong his playing career. Reports surfaced on the other side of the Atlantic on Saturday evening that Ramsey had entered into "advanced talks" with the Mexican side. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community TV reporter Andres Vaca told the Seleccione2 podcast: 'I don't know if they're selling me smoke, they just told me that Aaron Ramsey is going to join Pumas. 'They told me it's almost a confirmation.' Article continues below On Sunday morning, the Press Association reported the links in even stronger tones, saying the 34-year-old had agreed terms. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano followed this up with his own confirmation, adding: "Aaron Ramsey will sign in as new Pumas player in the next days, ready for new chapter in Mexico." Des Buckingham (Image: Getty Images ) It leaves Cardiff's hunt for a new boss in a sorry state; an announcement was due at the start of next week but whether that now happens remains to be seen. Former Oxford United boss Buckingham has always been in the mix and was involved in the interview process which concluded at the end of last month. A shortlist, using the help of an external agency, was then sent to Malaysia for Vincent Tan's final decision. Since then, events have gone awry to say the least. With Jones and Ramsey now off the table, contenders who were in the original running are now back on the agenda. Article continues below Bookmakers place 40-year-old Buckingham as favourite (1/1), ahead of Leicester City coach Brian Barry-Murphy (6/4) and ex-Bolton boss Ian Evatt (10/3). Around a month ago, Buckingham was riding high in the bookies' odds for the job. He was sacked by Oxford last December and has been out of work since. He led the U's to promotion out of League One last year. Buckingham is also said to be in the running for the vacant post at Plymouth Argyle.

An already high-calibre field has been boosted the presence of another of golf's true superstars ahead of next month's Genesis Scottish Open. The likes of Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy have already confirmed they will head to Renaissance Club in North Berwick and compete for a prize fund believed to be in excess of £6.6million. Major champions Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose have also entered and they will be joined by defending champion Robert McIntyre, who saw off the challenge of New Zealander Adam Scott to land only the second PGA Tour win of his career and his first on home soil last year. The three-time major championship winner has been a regular competitor at the East Lothian course - but missed out on last year's tournament after turning his focus to a successful pursuit of a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. However, Scheffler has now confirmed he will return next month and his announcement means all of the current top five players in the official World Golf Ranking will be amongst the field. Such is the strength of the field, Russell Henley, Hideki Matsuyama and Bryson DeChambeau, who is ineligible for PGA Tour events due to being a LIV Golf player, are the only absentees from the current top ten ahead of next month's tournament. Scheffler said: "I'm looking forward to getting back to the Genesis Scottish Open next month. It's an event and a course I enjoy playing given we only get to play links golf a couple of times a year. Playing in such a strong field and in front of the Scottish fans is always fun for us." What did Robert MacIntyre say after winning the 2024 Scottish Open? MacIntyre ended a 25-year wait for a Scottish winner of the tournament when he carded a total score of 18 under to win by just one stroke 12 months ago. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Getty Images Speaking to Sky Sports after his win, the Oban-born star said: 'I think I lost my voice after the scream on that hole. I thought I was short. I've put a lot of work into this. I've changed a lot within the team and I've just worked hard. I wanted The Scottish Open. I got a bit of luck on 16 that you need to win golf tournaments. I couldn't believe when I heard a sprinkler under my foot. It was covered and I thought: I got lucky, it was meant to be. Next week is a new week but I tell you, I'm going to celebrate this with my family, friends, and everyone here. I'm going to celebrate this one hard. We'll pitch up to the Open when we pitch up to the Open.' Your next sport read: Former Hibs star eyed for Juventus transfer as Serie A giants grant 'green light' to make bumper advances

Former Hibs player set for Wigan Athletic transfer as he chooses EFL over Premiership rival

A former Hibs midfielder is reportedly close to snubbing a contract offer from one Premiership rival to join English League One club Wigan Athletic. Fraser Murray came through the youth ranks at Hibs and made his mark early with a goal in a 3-0 Scottish Challenge Cup win against Highland League side Turriff United in September 2016, before making his league debut against Raith Rovers later in the same season. Murray's progress was rewarded with a new deal in October 2018 as he racked up 17 senior appearances - but his first consistent experience of first-team football came during a loan spell with Championship club Dunfermline Athletic during the 2020/21 campaign. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Murray joined Kilmarnock on a permanent deal a the end of the same season and the former Scotland youth international has gone on to make over 120 appearances for the Rugby Park club over the last five years. After scoring four goals and providing three assists in 39 games in all competitions last season, Murray has attracted attention from clubs in both England and Scotland after his current contract with Killie comes to a close. Wigan Today have reported the Latics are set to see off competition from a number of their League One rivals plus Scottish clubs like Kilmarnock, who hoped to get him on a new contract. The likes of Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County were all said to be keen on a deal for Murray. Head coach Ryan Lowe was reportedly at Kilmarnock's penultimate game of the season as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Motherwell and appears to have seen enough from Murray during an 89-minute display to convince him to make the 26-year-old his first signing of the summer. The report also claims Wigan are looking to complete a second swoop on the Premiership and are keen on a deal for Ross County forward Ronan Hale - but will reportedly face competition from clubs in England and Scotland.
