Oman joins QABA Board, marks regional first in autism care
With this, Oman becomes the first country in the Arab world to attain full membership in the global QABA network – a recognition of the advanced professional standards and infrastructure available in the sultanate's autism services sector.
In a statement issued on its official website, the QABA board welcomed the partnership and highlighted Oman's regional leadership in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
'We are proud to welcome the Ministry of Social Development in Oman, through the National Autism Centre, as our first full member in the Arab world,' the statement read. 'This step represents the beginning of a strategic partnership to enhance international standards in behaviour analysis services in the region.'
The announcement comes as part of the first phase of QABA's broader strategic expansion into the Arab region, aimed at fostering cooperation with official bodies, academic institutions and specialised centres in ABA and autism care.
Full membership grants institutions a distinguished status, providing access to international partnerships, advanced training programmes, and the opportunity to serve as an accredited centre for supervision and field training of specialists in behavioural services.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nadia al Ajmi, Director of National Autism Centre, expressed pride in the milestone achievement. 'The centre's attainment of full QABA membership is a pivotal step towards developing and improving the quality of rehabilitation services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder,' Dr Nadia said. 'It also contributes to empowering and advancing national competencies in this field. The membership is expected to further enhance the capabilities of autism professionals in Oman, facilitate the training of local specialists to meet international standards, and attract globally certified professionals to the sultanate. It will also support the establishment of research and development partnerships with renowned international institutions.
Established in 2023 under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Development, the National Autism Centre is considered a pioneering facility in the sultanate. It is dedicated to offering diagnostic and treatment services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, with strong focus on adopting the best international practices in care and intervention.
The ministry's initiatives reflect Oman's broader national efforts to promote inclusivity, develop specialised healthcare services, and invest in building local human capital in line with global standards.

Oman reviews food security gains at UN summit
Muscat – Oman presented its progress in food and nutrition security during a ministerial session of the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4), which concluded on Tuesday in the Ethiopian capital. Speaking at the session, H E Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, said Oman has recorded notable improvements in several food and nutrition indicators since the 2021 summit. He cited a suite of current and planned strategies aimed at boosting domestic production, diversifying supply chains, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources and tackling malnutrition. These include a national food security strategy, nutrition strategy and frameworks for climate change adaptation, environmental sustainability and preservation of genetic diversity in local animal species. Oman was ranked third in the Arab world and 35th globally in the 2022 Global Food Security Index and 54th in the 2024 Environmental Performance Index. According to the minister, these rankings reflect the country's commitment to sustainability, environmental protection and efficient natural resource management. H E Habsi added that Oman is one of only nine countries globally – and the second Arab state – to receive World Health Organization certification for eliminating artificial trans fats from food products. The measure is part of a broader government push to promote public health and preventive care. He also noted that water sustainability continues to be a national priority, with policies in place to protect available resources from external threats and manage consumption across all sectors while safeguarding environmental requirements.

'Our Safe Home' initiative launched in Musandam
KHASAB: The Ministry of Social Development in Musandam Governorate on Tuesday launched the "Our Safe Home" initiative under the auspices of Shaikh Dr Saif bin Mohammed al Ghaithi, Wali of Bukha. Muscat: The National Autism Center (NAC) has achieved a historic milestone as it becomes the first organisation in the Arab region to receive full membership status with Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Credentialing Board (QABA), a prestigious U.S.-based authority in the field of applied behavior analysis. Officially accredited by QABA, the Ministry of Social Development, NAC's recognition underscores its leadership in specialised training and certification for autism services. The membership grants NAC exclusive standing to administer and oversee professional development programs, including certifications such as the ABAT (Applied Behavior Analysis Technician), QASP-S (Qualified Autism Services Practitioner-Supervisor), and QBA (Qualified Behavior Analyst).
