PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry has outlined seven measures to alleviate the workload of teachers, including the abolition of low-impact events and the appointment of members of the public as examination invigilators.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that this long-standing issue has been a focus since the start of her tenure, requiring a comprehensive solution.
"The ministru, through recommendations from the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK), has outlined seven steps to reduce teachers' workload. Key among these is the abolition of organising low-impact events and reducing the frequency of assessments related to the Malaysian Education Quality Standard (SKPM) management elements," she said in a Facebook post Thursday (July 10).
Additionally, there will be more flexibility in the timing for recording student attendance, limiting Teacher's Day celebrations to national and school levels only, and condensing the Daily Lesson Plan (RPH) to include only objectives, teaching, and reflection elements.
Fadhlina also mentioned that the ministry is strengthening teacher autonomy in planning and implementing the teaching and learning process (PdP) as well as Classroom Assessment (PBD).
"This initiative has already shown significant successes, including the appointment of over 11,000 public examination invigilators from the public, thereby reducing teachers' workload. However, it needs to be continuously strengthened to ensure its impact is comprehensive and felt by all teachers," she added.
Furthermore, she urged all state Education Departments, district Education Offices, and school administrators to ensure the effective implementation of these initiatives, with the Director-General of Education responsible for ensuring all initiatives proceed as planned.
"Quarterly reports must be presented to me and the ministry's senior management, and I demand commitment from the entire educational leadership at all levels to address the issue of teachers' workload together," Fadhlina said. - Bernama

PETALING JAYA: After a 25-year wait, a Tamil school near Kuantan, Pahang, may soon see new school buildings following Cabinet approval for fresh funding. The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting on Aug 1, where funds for new buildings for SJK(T) Ladang Jeram will be allocated in Budget 2026, according to school board chairman Datuk Nadeson Kandasamy. Education Ministry officials are expected to meet with the school board soon to discuss design plans and the project timeline, Nadeson said, adding that the budget is still being finalised. "Construction will likely start next year once the funds are approved under Budget 2026," Nadeson noted, adding that the Cabinet's decision was conveyed on Aug 1 by Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh. The new buildings will be constructed on the same plot of land, about 20 minutes from Kuantan, currently occupied by makeshift cabins, Nadeson said. "The standard specification for schools includes 18 classrooms, a library, computer room, teachers' room, and principal's room, possibly in one or two blocks," he explained. "Additionally, it is now compulsory to have a kindergarten." For the past 25 years, the school's 43 pupils, 10 teachers, and a handful of staff have been using temporary cabins after the school was moved from its original site in the Jeram estate. The school was first established in 1952. Pupils and staff were relocated to cabins while new buildings were being constructed at a permanent site. However, four years after the tender was issued in 2014, the developer faced financial problems, halting the project, which had reportedly cost RM14mil. Efforts to revive the project between 2018 and 2023 were hindered by changes in education ministers, Nadeson said. The current government revisited the issue and promised to complete the new buildings. Ministers Gobind Singh (Digital), Fadhlina Sidek (Education), and Anthony Loke (Transport) have consistently raised the school's plight in Cabinet meetings, Nadeson added. Once the new buildings are ready, the board will remain responsible for maintaining them and their facilities. "We anticipate increased enrolment once the new school blocks are ready. Previously, parents were reluctant to send their children due to inadequate facilities," Nadeson said. "With the new buildings, we could likely enrol 100 new pupils each year." In a statement on the Cabinet's decision, Gobind said it reflected the government's commitment to resolving issues faced by Tamil schools nationwide. "As the Digital Minister, I will monitor and maintain contact with the Education Ministry, Prime Minister's Department, and all related agencies to ensure the project is executed and completed promptly," he said. "Our goal is to ensure that our children can learn in environments that are conducive and comfortable. I am confident that with everyone's cooperation, the dream of seeing SJKT Ladang Jeram operating from new buildings will be realised."

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said this was one of the things that they had been advocating for to address the issue of overcrowding. "When there are housing plans, there must also be school planning. We know that without proper school planning, we will face several issues, especially congestion, overcrowding, and finding places for children in schools. "So, this planning is in line with what the ministry has planned. "We fully support this initiative as it addresses a critical issue that we have been advocating for," she told reporters when asked for comments on the matter. Yesterday, Anwar had ordered developers and city officials to defer Madani housing projects that did not include essential public amenities until those requirements were fulfilled. He said such projects must include schools, clinics and green spaces to ensure they are liveable for residents. Fadhlina was met after handling mock cheques to 12 special needs schools in the country at Sekolah Sinar Harapan here this afternoon. Anwar, when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in Parliament last week, had touched on expanding special education facilities and capacity for vulnerable groups nationwide. In her speech earlier, Fadhlina said her ministry would be conducting engagement session ahead of the 2026 Budget, with special focus on special needs students. "As such, we urge the relevant stakeholders to provide us with the necessary suggestions to strengthen this efforts. BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Empowering educational institutions for students with special needs is among the key focus areas of the Ministry of Education (MoE) under Budget 2026, which is scheduled to be tabled on Oct 10. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the government, through Budget 2025, had allocated RM10 million to support private autism schools, a move that continued its commitment to ensuring that the group was not sidelined from receiving equal access to education. 'For the first time, a special allocation of RM10 million was made under Budget 2025 to support private educational institutions that cater to children with autism and special needs. 'This reflects the MADANI Government's commitment to equitable access to education, not just in terms of financial assistance but also in recognising the efforts of all stakeholders involved in driving inclusive education in the country,' she told reporters after attending a mock cheque presentation ceremony for autism schools at Sekolah Sinar Harapan here today. Fadhlina said during the event, 12 autism education institutions from Penang, Selangor, Perak, Kelantan and Johor received allocations and other forms of assistance, adding that such initiatives would continue from time to time to support the education system for special needs children. Fadhlina said the MoE was currently conducting engagement sessions on Budget 2026, with special education allocation being among the top priorities. 'Therefore, I call on all parties to offer suggestions, proposals and ideas so that we can strengthen efforts to ensure these children are given their rightful place in the education system, particularly in terms of high-level skills suited to their current needs,' she said. On a separate matter, Fadhlina said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call for all large-scale housing projects to be equipped with schools and health centres was in line with the ministry's efforts to address overcrowding in classrooms and traffic congestion, especially in newly developed areas. 'We fully support the directive as it aligns with our existing needs, which have often been raised by the ministry.
