The Indian military has acknowledged the loss of fighter jets in its recent standoff with Pakistan for the first time, reported Bloomberg on Saturday (May 31).
Anil Chauhan, chief of defence staff of the Indian Armed Forces, told Bloomberg that it was important for India to ascertain why the jets were downed. He also dismissed Pakistan's claim of downing six Indian jets as 'absolutely incorrect'.
'What is important is that, not the jet being down, but why they were being down,' Chauhan said, on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

'Why they were down, what mistakes were made — that are important,' Chauhan said when asked about the fighter jets. 'Numbers are not important,' he added.
'The good part is that we are able to understand the tactical mistake which we made, remedy it, rectify it, and then implement it again after two days and flew all our jets again, targeting at long range,' Chauhan said.

Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The seven group of delegations were visiting Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Liberia, Congo, Sierra Leone, the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Russia, Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa. We have a very senior delegation of members of Parliament, highly experienced, cutting across party lines, across all regions of India. There can be no one better than them to explain India's position. There's a lot of optimism, hope and confidence in the Indian delegation...' The delegation landed in the United Kingdom after completing visits to France, Italy, and Denmark, where they engaged with government officials, diaspora, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. Upon their arrival, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'We are here in London. We will keep our stance on terrorism effectively, here. We believe that we will get that support here as well, the way we have received the support in those three countries.'
