Robot cleans 32,000 square feet of beach per hour

BeBot operates entirely on electric power, relying on batteries and, in some versions, solar panels. This approach ensures there are no emissions, so the robot does not contribute to greenhouse gases or other forms of pollution. Unlike traditional gas-powered beach-cleaning equipment such as tractors, BeBot is quiet and unobtrusive, which allows it to work at any time without disturbing wildlife or beach visitors. Its cleaning capacity is impressive. BeBot can cover up to 32,200 square feet of beach in a single hour, which is 20 to 30 times more effective than manual trash collection. The robot can remove up to 200 pounds of debris in one session, targeting items like plastic bottles, cigarette butts, food packaging, and cotton buds. BeBot's design allows it to dig up to about four inches into the sand, and its sifting grids, which measure roughly half an inch by half an inch, capture even the smallest pieces of plastic and trash that would be difficult for people to collect by hand.
Remote operation is another standout feature. BeBot can be controlled from up to 950 feet away, giving operators the flexibility to clean large or crowded beaches safely. Its unique track system distributes pressure evenly across the sand, which helps prevent beach erosion and protects sensitive habitats such as turtle nesting sites. The robot's battery can last up to three hours on a full charge, and some models can run for as long as eight hours.
BeBot is not limited to trash collection. Its modular design supports a variety of attachments, allowing it to rake seaweed and algae, level sand, and carry heavy loads such as beach chairs, umbrellas, or even jet skis. With the sifter removed, BeBot can transport up to 900 pounds, making it a valuable tool for both public and private beaches, nature reserves, golf courses, and other sandy environments.
BeBot has already demonstrated its effectiveness in places like Lake Tahoe, where Eco-Clean Solutions deployed it to clean over one million square feet of shoreline across twenty beaches. Videos of BeBot in action show the robot digging up all kinds of debris, including flip-flops and cigarette filters. The robot has also been used on beaches in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, and North Carolina. In each location, BeBot has received praise for its ability to remove hard-to-spot debris and for raising public awareness about the dangers of microplastics.

Anthropic now lets you make apps right from its Claude AI chatbot
Anthropic is adding a new feature to its Claude AI chatbot that lets you build AI-powered apps right inside the app. The upgrade, launching in beta, builds upon Anthropic's Artifacts feature introduced last year that lets you see and interact with what you ask Claude to make. 'Start building in the Claude app by enabling this new interactive capability,' the company says in a blog post. 'Simply describe what you want to create, and Claude will write the code for you.' It basically sounds like vibe coding, but with the ability to see the results right inside Claude. You can briefly see how it all works in a video from Anthropic that shows somebody building a chat app. Early users of the feature have built things like AI-powered games, learning tools, data analysis apps, writing assistants, and even agent workflows that 'orchestrate multiple Claude calls for complex tasks,' Claude says. Apps will be able to 'interact with Claude through an API.' Anthropic also wants people to share the apps that they make, and it's encouraging that by making so that somebody else's API usage of your app 'counts against their subscription, not yours.' The feature is available on Anthropic's Free, Pro, and Max tiers.

New Social Security Commissioner faces pointed questions about staffing, privacy
WASHINGTON (AP) — After months of job cuts, leadership turnover and other turmoil at the Social Security Administration, the agency's newly minted commissioner faced pointed questions from lawmakers about the future of the agency and its ability to pay Americans their benefits and protect their privacy. Frank Bisignano, who was sworn in last month as President Donald Trump's pick to lead the agency, told lawmakers he intends to improve accuracy in payments and raise morale at the agency, which has already lost 7,000 workers since billionaire Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency embarked on a cost-cutting mission at the agency earlier this year. 'Increased staffing is not the long term solution,' Bisignano told lawmakers, vowing instead to invest in technology so that the agency could function with fewer workers. 'We will do this by becoming a digital-first, technology-led organization that puts the public as our focal point.' He called it his 'personal goal' to have a 'highly motivated workforce' and raise the agency's standing after three straight years of ranking last among government agencies in employee satisfaction. Bisignano testified that roughly 2,000 workers have been voluntary reassigned into direct-service positions at SSA, and nearly 3,700 employees have voluntarily left the agency. In 2026, he said, 'we will focus our hiring efforts on highly skilled IT staff and field offices with staffing gaps that impact our ability to deliver.' Bisignano took over an agency after a series of chaotic customer service changes, leadership exits, and false allegations made by the president and Musk that millions of dead people were receiving benefits. The chaos at the agency began shortly after acting commissioner Michelle King stepped down in February, a move that came after DOGE sought access to Social Security recipient information. That prompted a lawsuit by labor unions and retirees, who asked a federal court to issue an emergency order limiting DOGE's access to Social Security data. The U.S. Supreme Court recently decided not to lift restrictions on the access that DOGE has to Social Security systems containing personal data on millions of Americans. In February, the agency announced plans to cut 7,000 people from the agency payroll through layoffs, employee reassignments and an offer of voluntary separation agreements, as part of an intensified effort to shrink the size of the federal workforce. During the Wednesday hearing, Bisignano was called to answer for several statements by Musk, including the billionaire's claim on a podcast earlier this year that Social Security was 'the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.' The SSA provides benefits to roughly 72.5 million people, including retirees and children. In disagreeing with Musk, Bisignano repeated the phrase: 'I agree it's a promise to pay.' The Social Security Administration could have to cut benefit to recipients if Congress does not act to adequately fund the program. The go-broke date — or the date at which the programs will no longer have enough funds to pay full benefits — was recently pushed up to beginning in 2034, instead of last year's estimate of 2035, because of new legislation approved by Congress. Social Security 's trust funds — which cover old age and disability recipients — would then only be able to pay 81% of benefits, according to an annual report released last week. The potential deficit has not been addressed in the tax cut and spending bill currently making its way through Congress. ___

BTIG raises Snowflake stock price target citing AI initiatives
BTIG raised its price target for Snowflake (NYSE: SNOW) to $235, up from $225 in early June, while holding onto its Buy rating. Two more details stood out: growing adoption of Iceberg Tables — a key data architecture trend — and signs that the sales team is expanding. BTIG sees both as short-term and mid-term growth drivers. While we acknowledge the potential of SNOW as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
