"In These Conditions...": Pep Guardiola Laments Heat Struggles For Manchester City In Club World Cup
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says his team must be ready to 'suffer' in the Florida heat when they face Juventus in their final Club World Cup Group G match on Thursday. Both City and Juventus have the maximum six points from their opening two games and have booked their place in the last 16 but top spot remains up for grabs. The heat, which has caused problems at several venues, is expected to be around 33 degrees celsius (91 degrees fahrenheit) for the game at Camping World Stadium which kicks off at 3pm local time.
Guardiola suggested his team line-up would be made with multiple second half changes in mind.
"I'm making the selection tomorrow [Thursday] thinking about the second half because in these conditions we can't play at our rhythm," he told reporters.
"But all the teams have to handle it, so it is what it is. For the next World Cup, people will know [about] it already, but we have to be ready to suffer. My advice to people is to bring water, hats and towels," he added.
Guardiola has rotated his squad so far in the tournament and will be without the suspended Rico Lewis and Argentine teenager Claudio Echeverri, who has an ankle injury which is likely to keep him out for the rest of the tournament.
The Spaniard addressed a viral video which showed the City manager playing beach football with some of the players near the team's base hotel in Boca Raton, South Florida.
Managing workload
Guardiola said it was simply a case of balancing the workload for his team after a long season.
"The end of the season was so demanding emotionally. It wasn't the best for consistency and results. I decided we'd do good training but let the players relax for the rest of the day," he said.
"If they want to play golf, go to the pool, on a day off be with their families (that's fine) – otherwise it would be so difficult mentally. It's to keep it fresh in the training sessions, not expending energy before the games because it would be so tough. We didn't lose physical condition after the season.
"Some went to their national teams and didn't have days off. It's maintaining (fitness) and relaxing. We have 11 months ahead of us. I decided for them to do whatever they want," he said.
Juve boss Igor Tudor said he may make some switches to his starting line-up but insisted that did not mean his team had anything in mind other than victory.
As things stand, the team who finish second in the group are likely to face Real Madrid in the last 16.
"We will definitely change something, but we want to play a serious game and win, fielding players who can help us achieve this goal," said the Croatian.
"The lads are motivated and eager, everyone wants to play. Those who will not play from the start will disappointed, because everyone wants to play these games," he added.
"Manchester City are a team that has dominated for years, led by the best coach in the world. It will be a game in which we give everything, we will play our football, they will play theirs and we will see what the final result will be," he added.

Steven Gerrard's Shocked As Thai Fan Tries 'DNA Transfer' At Meet-and-Greet
A fan jokingly rubbed Gerrard's legs and tried to sprinkle his DNA onto his son so that he might inherit the man's talents. A bizarre incident took place at Steven Gerrard's meet-and-greet event in Thailand as the Liverpool legend encountered an overly passionate father who tried to take the great's DNA for his son, hoping he would follow in his footsteps. The clip from the event showed the 45-year-old being filmed with this father-and-son duo before the senior man jokingly rubbed Gerrard's legs and tried to sprinkle his DNA onto his son so that he might inherit the man's talents. While the two Liverpool fans were taken off stage by the security personnel, Gerrard appeared shocked by what had transpired and was seen laughing in the background. The amusing clip of the former English Premier League midfielder has since gone viral on social media, raising the eyebrows of football fans around the globe and attracting a flood of comments. This bloke taking the DNA from Gerrards legs to put them into his own son's 🤣🤣🤣 — george (@StokeyyG2) June 25, 2025 While some were pleased that Gerrard's die-hard fans' son might get some of his virtues, others joked it would be difficult to see the young lad come up with an unreliable footing and cost a Premier League title to Liverpool in the future. It was a funny reference to Gerrard's slip-up during a potential decider against Chelsea in the 2014 English Premier League, where Demba Ba maximised on the opening and scored a crucial goal for his team. With Liverpool desperately needing an equaliser, Gerrard infamously erred and collapsed before Ba went on to produce Chelsea's second strike for the night, ultimately ensuring their 2-0 victory at Anfield. Liverpool's loss denied them a chance to claim the top standing that season as Manchester City eventually lifted the EPL title. Talks over his slip-up continue to follow Gerrard long after his retirement in 2016, when he last turned out for LA Galaxy. He has since taken up managerial roles, enduring mixed success. Gerrard won the Scottish Premier League in 2021 with Rangers before failing in his role with Aston Villa. He was most recently in charge of Saudi Pro rivals Al-Ettifaq but was sacked by the club in January. First Published:

‘USA would even deep-fry the soles of their shoes': How Weston McKennie and Tim Weah got into ‘food fight' with Emiliano Viviano over American and Italian cuisines
With the FIFA Club World Cup matches in USA facing plenty of flak due to the games being played in excessive heat or getting delayed due to thunderstorms, there's a different kind of storm brewing off the pitch. Recently, USA players Weston McKennie and Tim Weah, both playing for Italian club Juventus, said the Italian cuisine did not have any variety compared to the American cuisine and have caught plenty of flak. The comments as expected did not go down well with former Italian goalie Emiliano Viviano blasting the duo, calling USA the worst country when it comes to food. 'The United States is the country with the worst food in the world. They would even deep-fry the soles of their shoes. If I was Meloni, I wouldn't let him back into Italy! How can you say there's no variety in Italian cuisine? His very definition of 'variety' irritated me. McKennie, there are 200 million of you Americans and all you ever eat are hamburgers,' Viviano said on TV Play. 'The truth is, all the food in America was brought there by other nations. I just want to tell McKennie that he has achieved the incredible feat of managing to unite all of Italy against him. It is not about fans anymore, he can be insulted by absolutely everybody,' he added. 'You guys don't have variety – it's pasta, pizza, fish, steak,' McKennie said. 'You know what the problem is with Italian food? It's great, it's good specific food that you do very well, but in America if I go to a burger joint or a steakhouse, then I go to another place 10 minutes down the street, I'm still eating a burger, but it's a completely different taste. In Italy, I go to this restaurant and get a pesto pasta, I go 10 minutes down the street and order a pesto pasta, it's the same thing,' McKennie had said on Juventus' Talk With Us while Weah nodded in the affirmative.

India tour of England 2025: Jofra Archer should not be rushed back to play second Test, says Vaughan
Injury-prone Jofra Archer should not be rushed back to play in England's second Test against India at Edgbaston despite the pace bowler's recent comeback to red-ball cricket, feels former captain Michael Vaughan. Archer played in his first First-Class match in four years during Sussex's County Championship game against Durham at Chester-le-Street on Sunday and took one wicket for 32 from 18 overs. The 30-year-old has not featured in a Test since 2021. England selector Luke Wright said earlier this month that if Archer comes through the four-day game for Sussex, he could be available for the second Test, which starts on July 2. But, Vaughan feels otherwise, preferring Archer to play another four-day game. 'The good thing is that Jofra is back in the equation—but I'd like to see him play another four-day game,' said Vaughan on BBC Test Match Special. 'He's not played the longer format for four years so why, on the back of one game for Sussex against Durham, would you rush him back? We know the intensity at Test-match level is so different to county cricket. Let him play another four-day game—I would go with the same lineup, as long as the bowlers are fine and there are no niggles.' Archer finished with figures of one for 32 from 18 overs in Durham's first innings, his sole wicket being that of opener Emilio Gay, but Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace also urged England to 'be careful' with the pacer. 'If I was in their (selectors') situation, my honest answer would be that I would save him (Archer) for the third Test match. You have to be careful that he's only bowled 18 overs of red-ball cricket,' Farbrace was quoted as saying in The Guardian. 'Why change the team? They've just won the Test at Headingley. They've set themselves up nicely for the series. I would be definitely sticking with Chris Woakes for Edgbaston because he knows the pitch inside out,' the former England assistant coach said. Farbrace will, however, report that Archer 'looks in great rhythm, he bowled very nicely'. '(But) Rather than playing back-to-back games and then straight into a Test match, probably the best scenario would be to not play in our game but then be ready for the third Test match. But that's their call,' he added. Archer emerged as one of England's most exciting prospects in 2019 when he bowled the decisive Super Over in the home World Cup win, before taking 22 wickets in four Tests in the Ashes series that followed. But since then he has been plagued by injury—an elbow issue that first surfaced in 2020 needed several surgeries and he also had a stress fracture of the back in 2022. As a result, Archer's frequent attempts to return to international cricket have been stop-start. He was expected to play in the white-ball series against West Indies but hurt his thumb while playing in the Indian Premier League.
