T'puram: Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technology arm of general education department, govt of Kerala, initiated an online artificial intelligence (AI) training programme for teachers across the nine islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago.
The training module is an updated version of the AI programme previously conducted by KITE for 80,000 teachers in Kerala. It utilizes the same online training platform that was made available to the public under the name 'AI Essentials'. The first phase of this training involves all 110 post graduate teachers, who are divided into five batches. The programme will be completed in one month, with one mentor assigned to every 20 teachers.
The course content is structured into five distinct sections. The first section, 'AI at Your Fingertips', introduces practical applications of AI while covering its history, development and future possibilities. The second section, 'AI Art Gallery', focuses on using AI to create and enhance images, design logos and posters and even build 3D models.
The third section, 'Mastering AI', offers hands-on training in prompt engineering and the use of AI for reading and data analysis.

The fourth section, 'AI in Everyday Life', provides practical training on how to use AI in areas such as music, coding, video production and learning. The final section concludes the training by providing an understanding of how to use AI responsibly and familiarizing participants with the technical terms used in the field.
K Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE, stated that the organization will provide training to all Lakshadweep teachers, including in the field of robotics. Robotics was incorporated into the revised Class X ICT textbooks, which are used since the islands follow the Kerala curriculum. To facilitate this, KITE will also provide robotics kits to schools in Lakshadweep.

Experts from MNNIT join hands with IIIT-Gwalior, PEC to develop high speed antenna for 6G comm

Prayagraj: Experts from three institutions-- MNNIT-Allahabad, IIIT-Gwalior and PEC Chandigarh-- are jointly developing a high-speed antenna for 6G communication that could revolutionise mobile data transfer in the country. The antenna aims to boost current transmission speeds from 1 gigabyte per second (GB/s) to a staggering 1 terabyte per second (TB/s). "Once made, the antenna is expected to eliminate common mobile network issues such as voice call drops and busy networks. It will also enhance the capability of limited bandwidth systems to serve a higher number of users with improved connectivity," said Anand Sharma, Assistant Professor in the electronics and communication engineering (ECE) Department at MNNIT. As development progresses, this breakthrough positions India at the forefront of next-generation telecommunications technology, he added. Sharma, along with Pinku Ranjan from the IIIT-Gwalior and Gaurav Das from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh, is working on the project sanctioned by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Govt of India. The govt has sanctioned Rs 32 lakh for the project, which is expected to be completed within the next three years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo "This antenna will be developed entirely using indigenous technology and will mark a major step forward in India's journey toward self-reliance in futuristic communication systems. It will allow users to send bulky files across the globe in the blink of an eye," said Sharma. The scientists believe this innovation could revolutionise the way Indians experience mobile communication, making lag-free video calls, instant file sharing and high-speed internet access a reality in the near future. In a first, electric 2-wheelerregistrations decline in Karnataka

Bengaluru: For the first time, Karnataka has recorded a decline in electric two-wheeler registrations. In 2024–25, more than 1.3 lakh e-scooters and bikes were registered — down from more than 1.4 lakh in 2023–24. This dip comes despite zero registration tax on e-two-wheelers and increasing options in the market. In total, more than 12.9 lakh two-wheelers, both electric and petrol, were registered in the state during the year. On average, 3,170 petrol-powered two-wheelers were registered each day, compared to just 370 electric ones. Transport department officials attribute the decline to limited fast-charging infrastructure. "Short-distance urban commuters prefer e-scooters, and we have seen consistent growth. But with slow home charging and few fast-charging options, interest seems to have dipped," a senior official said. "I feel nervous using it in the rain or on bad roads," he added. E-cars & autos grow Even as electric two-wheeler registrations slowed, electric cars continued to rise — from 10,299 in 2023–24 to 12,191 in 2024–25. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I am closing my jewelry shop forever... Sheryl Duncan Shop Now Undo The state had only 186 registered e-cars in 2019–20, crossing the 10,000 mark for the first time last year. While buyers earlier benefited from a lifetime road tax exemption, a 10% tax was introduced in March 2024 for e-cars priced above Rs 25 lakh. E-autos also saw a sharp increase. From just 68 in 2019–20, registrations crossed 5,000 in 2024–25. Exemption from permit requirements encouraged growth, especially among aggregators and individual drivers. However, the state has now made permits mandatory for all new and existing e-autos. The state's push for public transport electrification has led to growth in e-bus registrations. From just two in 2020–21, the number rose to 731 in 2024–25. The transition is driven by state-run road transport corporations under the electric mobility policy. Despite the current setback in the two-wheeler segment, officials believe improved infrastructure and awareness will help revive interest. "As fast-charging networks expand and confidence grows, numbers are likely to bounce back," a transport official said. —--- Discounts scaled back: Expert An industry expert said the two-wheeler market "remains stagnant, and within it, the EV segment has also seen a slight decline." A major manufacturer that once offered heavy discounts to improve market share scaled them back last year to focus on profitability, he said. "Two other leading players also reduced their discount-led strategies," the expert added. Reduced subsidies have further dented sales. "Buyers earlier benefited from substantial incentives, but these have been cut sharply, leading to a drop in volumes," he said. Charging infrastructure gaps persist, especially the lack of standardised connectors. While Bengaluru faces fewer issues due to higher EV awareness, less mature markets struggle. Most city users plan their travel and charge at home, he said. New models at varied price points and the festive season could boost sentiment and bring an uptick in demand, the expert said. UP assembly holds AI training session for MLAs

Ahead of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly commencing on Monday, a training session on artificial intelligence (AI) was held for the MLAs on Sunday. Experts from IIT-Kanpur conducted the session chaired by assembly speaker Satish Mahana. Over 200 legislators attended the session. An Ai training session for legislators underway at the UP legislative assembly in Lucknow on August 10. (HT photo) 'This is the first phase where we are introducing AI for the legislators. We have also started AI enabled cameras which will help in many aspects. For example, one can get to know what all a member has spoken in a period of five years within seconds with the help of AI-enabled cameras,' Mahana said. 'This is not a step of just monitoring, but many other aspects of information are also associated with it,' he added. The session was divided into two parts where first was to introduce AI to the MLAs while in the second part, they were explained about real life application of AI. However, MLAs raised doubts too. 'AI can judge your objective. Hence AI would not be able to do analysis of the data it is taking and the objective with which that data was made. Will AI be able to differentiate between genuine data from the fabricated one? And what about data safety,' asked Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel. Aradhana Mishra, Congress legislature party leader, said, 'More than introducing AI, the legislators need to be told how to connect dots between their working needs and the AI.' 'Introducing AI is a welcome step but a debate makes it better for the assembly,' said leader of the opposition Mata Prasad Pandey. Kaimganj MLA Surabhi Singh said, 'Can AI cater to the sentiments of our voters? This is significant as an MLA has to connect directly with voters.' 'What if the data available from sources such as the internet is incorrect. Should we first focus on correct data,' asked another member in the house. The experts from IIT-K answered their queries. Special session to discuss UP's 'Vision 2047': Mahana The 24-hours special session to be conducted from August 13 to 14 will have a discussion on UP's 'Vision 2047', said the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Satish Mahana on Sunday. The session will start at 11 am on August 13. This is the second such session after 2019. The special session will have primary debate that will be taken before the public and then tables in the assembly. 'In three-and-a-half years, sessions have been conducted smoothly and have witnessed increased participation of the members during debate and discussions. The fact is only twice the session had to be adjourned in the past three-and-a-half years. This successful conduct had a positive role of the opposition too,' Mahana added. Asked about the demand from the opposition regarding increasing days of session for debate, he said, 'The days are not less for debate. The monsoon sessions in the past have been conducted similarly.'
