OSAKA — The Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has received an overwhelming response, with over 120,000 people engaging with the Saudi Tours Japan campaign, which visited seven cities from February 15 to March 9 to promote the pavilion ahead of the global event.
Dr. Ghazi Binzagr, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Pavilion, highlighted the success of the initiative, emphasizing Japan's strong interest in Saudi culture and hospitality.
Dr. Binzagr said Saudi Tours Japan provided thousands of people with a multi-sensory experience, offering a hands-on exhibition of the Kingdom's national transformation and its growing impact on culture, sports, and tourism.
Visitors were welcomed with traditional Saudi coffee and invited to experience virtual reality exhibits, live music, cultural performances, and Saudi cuisine, as well as a majlis where they could try on traditional Saudi attire for photographs.
He noted that many Japanese visitors were eager to explore Saudi Arabia beyond Expo 2025 Osaka.
He added that it was heartwarming to see visitors learning about Saudi culture firsthand through the hospitality and traditional dress, and that many realized Saudi and Japanese cultures share more similarities than they initially thought.
With $800 billion in tourism investments planned, Saudi Arabia aims to attract 30,000 Japanese tourists annually, supported by a dedicated tourism office in Japan.
Dr. Binzagr emphasized that the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka plays a crucial role in cultural engagement by building awareness and fostering connections between the Japanese public and Saudi Arabia through shared experiences.

Expo 2025 Osaka will run for six months from April 13 to October 13, concluding with the official handover to Expo 2030 Riyadh.

Bacteria suspends water shows at Japan's World Expo
The discovery of high levels of bacteria has led the World Expo in Japan's Osaka to suspend daily water shows and use of a shallow play pool, organizers said. It comes after visitors also complained that swarms of tiny flying insects had invaded the vast waterfront site where Expo 2025 runs until mid-October. Nearly six million people have visited exhibits from more than 160 countries, regions and organizations since it opened in April. Although polls showed that public enthusiasm for the Expo was lukewarm before its opening, organizers say crowds have been growing, especially in recent weeks. But concerns were raised over environmental conditions at the reclaimed island site in Osaka Bay, which was once a landfill. Organizers said Thursday that high levels of legionella bacteria had forced them to close an area with shallow water where visitors, including children, could cool off. That followed a statement released Wednesday saying daily fountain shows with music and lights at an artificial pond had been suspended for the same reason. They said they were cleaning the affected areas, adding that a decision would come on Friday on whether the shows could resume. Days before the Expo opened, a level of methane gas high enough to potentially ignite a fire was detected at the site. More recently, organizers sprayed insecticide to deter swarms of non-biting midges bothering guests. Also known as a World's Fair, the Expo phenomenon, which brought the Eiffel Tower to Paris, began with London's 1851 Crystal Palace exhibition. It is now held every five years in different global locations.

Saudi Arabia beat Bahrain to stay in World Cup qualification hunt
Saudi Gazette report RIFFA — Saudi Arabia kept their hopes of automatic qualification alive with a 2-0 victory over Bahrain in Group C of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26 on Thursday. The result lifted Herve Renard's side to 13 points, setting up a decisive showdown with group leaders Australia next Tuesday. The Saudis must win that match by at least four goals to overtake the Socceroos on goal difference and secure second place. The Green Falcons asserted themselves early at Bahrain National Stadium. A long-range pass from Hassan Al Tambakti found Ali Majrashi in space, but the fullback's second touch allowed Bahrain goalkeeper Ebrahim Lutfalla to close down quickly. Saudi Arabia found their breakthrough in the 16th minute. Captain Salem Al Dawsari delivered a pinpoint first-time cross to the far post, where Musab Al Juwayr — recently named Saudi Pro League Young Player of the Season — calmly sidefooted the ball home. Bahrain responded with long-range efforts from Komail Al Aswad and Mohamed Marhoon, but neither troubled Saudi keeper Nawaf Al Aqidi. Al Dawsari had a chance to double the lead in the 40th minute after a clever through-ball from Aiman Yahya, but his chipped finish drifted just over the bar. After the break, Saudi Arabia pressed for a second. Feras Albrikan had the ball in the net just before the hour mark, but the goal was disallowed for offside in the buildup. Bahrain nearly equalized in the 68th minute, but Marhoon's strike off a low cross from Ebrahim Alkhatal struck the post. Five minutes later, Al Aqidi produced a double save to deny Vincent Emmanuel and Mahdi Abduljabbar in quick succession. With Bahrain pushing forward in search of a goal, Saudi Arabia capitalized. In the closing minutes, Majrashi played a through ball to substitute Abduralrahman Alobud, who finished clinically to seal the 2-0 win. Saudi Arabia now face a high-stakes final group match against Australia, where only a convincing +5 goals win will send them directly to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
