Saudi and US ambassadors meet at Expo 2025 Osaka to strengthen bilateral ties

TOKYO — Saudi Arabia and the United States reaffirmed their strategic partnership during a high-level diplomatic engagement at Expo 2025 Osaka, where Saudi Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr hosted US Ambassador to Japan George Glass for a private tour and reception at the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. Held on Friday, in Osaka, the visit highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two allies and underscored shared ambitions across economic, cultural, and innovation-driven sectors. The meeting comes just 10 days after US President Donald Trump's landmark state visit to Riyadh for the Saudi–US Investment Forum. During the reception, Ambassador Binzagr led Ambassador Glass and his delegation through an immersive journey across the Pavilion's exhibits, which spotlight the Kingdom's rich heritage, ongoing national transformation, and global contributions in sustainability and innovation. The visit concluded with a Saudi Majlis gathering and the exchange of traditional gifts. 'This was a productive and collaborative first meeting between the ambassadors of our two nations here in Japan,' said Dr. Binzagr, who also serves as Commissioner General of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. 'The Pavilion is more than a cultural showcase — it's a place where global leaders can build understanding and discuss solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges.' The visit served as a symbolic moment of unity, emphasizing the long-standing strategic alliance between Saudi Arabia and the United States, while offering a platform for exploring future partnerships in fields vital to the growth and prosperity of both nations. Throughout the six-month World Expo, the Saudi Arabia Pavilion is set to host more than 700 business and investment events. It also features daily cultural showcases, including traditional dance and fashion performances, alongside seven immersive galleries that span topics such as smart cities, sustainable marine development, human potential, and frontier technologies. — SG

Saudi ambassador opens Expo pavilion with message of peace

TOKYO: The Osaka-Kansai Expo opens on April 13 and Saudi Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr says the event 'sends a message about the importance of standing together for connections, prosperity and innovation at a time when the world faces many challenges.' Ambassador Binzagr was in Osaka on Wednesday to officially open the Saudi Arabia Pavilion and took the opportunity to emphasize the close relationship the Kingdom has with Japan. In addition, he said that Saudi Arabia was undergoing an important national 'transformation' and this 'carries many of the very values that are part of what Expo stands for: Sustainable economic growth and prosperity for the world. Ambassador Binzagr said that Saudi Arabia shared many similar values with Japan — the two countries are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations this year — and noted that the next Expo would be held in Riyadh. The Saudi Arabia Pavilion, he said, represented innovation and creating opportunities for the next generation, as well as 'values that are important in the realization that peace and prosperity happens when we all commit to it.' He added: 'Our pavilion highlights such a spirit and we've tried very hard to bring Saudi Arabia to Japan through this pavilion so that a visitor that walks through it will get a glimpse of our heritage, which we are honored by, and will see the dynamism taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today as well as a glimpse of our future and where we're heading. 'This future includes exciting projects such as Al-Qadiyah and NEOM, but the pavilion also showcases down-to-earth aspects of Saudi culture such as our coffee and dates ... hospitality that has been part of traditions for centuries.' The pavilion will present more than 700 significant events that will capture different elements and aspects of Saudi Arabia with themes such as art, music, nature and business. Anticipating the excitement of hosting the next Expo in Riyadh in 2030, Ambassador Binzagr said: 'It's always an honor to receive the torch from Japan and take it forward. 'As ambassador to Saudi Arabia, I feel there's such deep alignment, not just in key values, but in the importance of embracing the challenge, of being simultaneously proud of your heritage, and yet also relevant for today and eager to be shapers of the future. 'That's a balance that we share with Japan. And when we take the torch from Japan, we feel we take that journey forward. Today, you visit us in our home in Japan. Tomorrow, we hope you visit us in your home in Saudi Arabia,' he said.

Saudi Pavilion welcomes over 120,000 visitors during Japan national tour

OSAKA — The Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has received an overwhelming response, with over 120,000 people engaging with the Saudi Tours Japan campaign, which visited seven cities from February 15 to March 9 to promote the pavilion ahead of the global event. Dr. Ghazi Binzagr, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Pavilion, highlighted the success of the initiative, emphasizing Japan's strong interest in Saudi culture and hospitality. Dr. Binzagr said Saudi Tours Japan provided thousands of people with a multi-sensory experience, offering a hands-on exhibition of the Kingdom's national transformation and its growing impact on culture, sports, and tourism. Visitors were welcomed with traditional Saudi coffee and invited to experience virtual reality exhibits, live music, cultural performances, and Saudi cuisine, as well as a majlis where they could try on traditional Saudi attire for photographs. He noted that many Japanese visitors were eager to explore Saudi Arabia beyond Expo 2025 Osaka. He added that it was heartwarming to see visitors learning about Saudi culture firsthand through the hospitality and traditional dress, and that many realized Saudi and Japanese cultures share more similarities than they initially thought. With $800 billion in tourism investments planned, Saudi Arabia aims to attract 30,000 Japanese tourists annually, supported by a dedicated tourism office in Japan. Dr. Binzagr emphasized that the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka plays a crucial role in cultural engagement by building awareness and fostering connections between the Japanese public and Saudi Arabia through shared experiences. He also noted that the pavilion showcases Saudi Arabia's transformation and its global impact in innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. The pavilion's presence at Expo 2025 Osaka is also seen as a bridge to Expo 2030 Riyadh, reinforcing the Saudi capital's position as a global hub ahead of its role as the host of Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Expo 2025 Osaka will run for six months from April 13 to October 13, concluding with the official handover to Expo 2030 Riyadh. The Saudi Pavilion will feature over 700 events, including daily fashion, music, and film performances, as well as seven immersive rooms showcasing the Kingdom's cultural identity, innovation, and sustainability initiatives. — SG

Saudi Ambassador to Japan highlights the country's attractions ahead of Osaka Expo

TOKYO: Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr attended the Tokyo stop of the 'Meet Saudi Arabia Tour' to promote the Kingdom's pavilion at the Osaka Kansai Expo, which opens on April 13. The tour — held in various parts of Japan — aims to show how Saudi Arabia is not just a distant place, but a relevant and engaging destination for all. Ambassador Binzagr, emphasizing the unique aspects of Saudi Arabia's 'rich culture and a fascinating history,' believes these elements have a special appeal to the people of Japan. 'We have beautiful, exciting things to showcase, but this is just a small glimpse of what we have to show about the past, the present and the future of Saudi Arabia,' Ambassador Binzagr told Arab News Japan. 'There are lots of things that you can touch and feel about our culture, from our heritage, from the emotion of our cities today and our life in the midst of a very exciting transformation that we are undergoing in Saudi Arabia.' The Tour offers visitors a chance to experience various aspects of Saudi culture, including Saudi Arabian coffee and date pairing, a cooking demonstration of traditional sweets, and traditional Saudi music and costumes. 'We're counting down to the last days before our opening in Osaka,' Ambassador Binzagr said about the Expo. 'We're almost completed and ready. I had the privilege of touring the site two days ago, and the final touches are being made now. With glimpses of the future we're heading towards, I am very excited to welcome everyone to Osaka.' One of the main themes of the Saudi Arabian pavilion is the building itself. The pavilion has been described as a 'masterpiece' and is said to embody the flow of Saudi Vision 2030 and the transformation from past to future, sensitivity to the environment, and design elements that blend heritage with technology and vision. 'Looking at it, I see the transformation of Saudi Arabia and what's happening in our vibrant country,' Dr. Binzagr said. 'But our focus is not just on the present, but also on the promising future of Saudi Arabia. We want to inspire people with the potential and relevance of our future. We want people to see a sample of it so that they think not just about joining us in Osaka, but beyond that to visiting our country.' Thematically, it projects an invitation to the world to step inside Saudi Arabia and to experience it. The building itself aims to reflect harmony – melding the desert environment with architectural aspects that both shield people from nature's elements and celebrates those elements at the same time.
