'Sebi regulations regarding financial influencers brought positive change in industry'

Time of India2 days ago

Financial influencers have emerged as significant voices in India's investment landscape, making the Securities and Exchange Board of India's (Sebi) recent regulatory framework for them a crucial development in protecting investor interests.
Finance content creator Neha Nagar believes these regulations have fostered positive change in the industry by establishing clear guidelines for transparency and accountability. "These regulations have helped to ensure transparency, accountability, and consumer protection in the realm of financial advice and endorsements," says Nagar, who runs an online finance course.
The regulatory shift addresses a previous gap in oversight, where the lack of clear guidelines often led to confusion and potential risks for consumers who relied on financial advice from social media personalities.
A key reform under the new Sebi rules is the mandatory disclosure of material conflicts of interest. Financial influencers must now explicitly declare any financial relationships with companies or products they promote, enabling followers to make more informed decisions about the advice they receive.
Nagar, who was featured in Forbes India's Top 100 Digital Stars list in 2022 and has worked with platforms like Groww, SBI Card, and CRED, emphasizes the importance of these disclosure requirements.

She noted that the previous lack of clarity in how financial influencers operated often resulted in consumers being exposed to potentially misleading information.
"One of the most significant changes brought about by the Sebi regulations is the mandatory disclosure of material conflicts of interest. This means that financial influencers must now clearly disclose any financial relationships they have with the companies or products they promote.
This transparency allows consumers to make informed decisions about whether or not to trust the advice or endorsements of a particular influencer," she said.
The new framework represents Sebi's efforts to regulate the growing influence of social media personalities in financial markets, ensuring better protection for retail investors who increasingly rely on digital platforms for investment guidance.

Kent RO gets SEBI nod for IPO, DRHP shows mixed financial performance over years

Mumbai: Kent RO Systems, a water purifier company, has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to launch its initial public offering (IPO). While this marks an important milestone for the company, its financials tell a mixed story with some concerns. Kent RO's latest financial data reveals a strong profit jump in FY24, but this comes after a sharp fall in the previous fiscal (FY23). The company had posted a profit of Rs 166.5 crore for the year ended March 31, 2024, compared to Rs 97.1 crore in FY23. While this is a big jump of around 71 per cent, it's important to note that the profit had dropped by over 37 per cent in FY23 from Rs 154.2 crore in FY22. The company's total expenses also rose by 6.42 per cent year-on-year (YoY), from Rs 976.9 crore in FY23 to Rs 1,039.6 crore in FY24. According to the DRHP, the company reported revenue from operations of Rs 1,178.1 crore for the FY24, compared to Rs 1,084.3 crore in the previous financial year. This marks a growth of around 8.65 per cent YoY. Total income for FY24 stood at Rs 1,260.6 crore, up from Rs 1,109.1 crore in FY23 -- an increase of 13.65 per cent. Meanwhile, for the six-month period ending September 30, 2024, Kent RO reported revenue from operations at Rs 637.1 crore and total income at Rs 684 crore. During the same period, the company recorded expenses of Rs 594.6 crore and a profit of Rs 69.6 crore, as per the DRHP paper. The IPO, which is a pure offer for sale (OFS), will see 10.1 million shares offloaded by promoters Sunita Gupta, Mahesh Gupta, and Varun Gupta. Since it is not a fresh issue, the company itself will not receive any funds from this public offering. The draft paper was filed with SEBI on January 23, and the approval came on June 6. The IPO price band has not been disclosed yet. JM Financial and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors will act as the book-running lead managers, while KFin Technologies is the registrar to the issue.

Oswal Pumps shares trade at 13% GMP ahead of IPO opening on June 13. Check key details

The initial public offering (IPO) of Oswal Pumps garnered significant buzz in the unlisted market ahead of its launch on June 13. Shares of the company were seen trading at a grey market premium (GMP) of Rs 80–83 in the unlisted market, denoting a gain of about 13% from the upper end of the stock's IPO price band. The GMP typically indicates the premium at which an IPO share is trading in the unofficial market before it is listed on the stock exchange. It reflects investor sentiment and expected listing gains, but is not officially regulated or guaranteed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like War Thunder - Register now for free and play against over 75 Million real Players War Thunder Play Now Undo However, it should be noted that GMP is not always reliable. It is an unofficial indicator driven by market speculation and sentiment, and can often fluctuate sharply or diverge from actual listing performance. While it gives a rough idea of demand, it should not be the sole basis for investment decisions. Oswal Pumps price band The price band for the IPO has been set at Rs 584 to Rs 614 per equity share, with each share having a face value of Rs 1. Live Events Retail investors are required to bid for a minimum of 24 shares, amounting to a base investment of Rs 14,016. However, given expectations of strong demand, market experts are advising investors to apply at the cutoff price, which would raise the minimum investment to Rs 14,736. For non-institutional investors, the minimum application size is considerably higher. Small NIIs (sNIIs) must apply for at least 14 lots, or 336 shares, involving an investment of Rs 2,06,304. Large NIIs (bNIIs) are required to bid for a minimum of 68 lots, equivalent to 1,632 shares, with an investment of Rs 10,02,048. About Oswal Pumps IPO The public offering comprises a fresh issue of 1.45 crore equity shares worth Rs 890 crore, along with an offer for sale (OFS) of 0.81 crore shares valued at Rs 497.34 crore by the promoter. As stated in the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP), the company may explore a pre-IPO placement of certain securities, which, if executed, will lead to a corresponding reduction in the size of the fresh issue. The company operates through subsidiaries such as Oswal Solar Structure Pvt Ltd and Oswal Green Industries Pvt Ltd. It is promoted by a group comprising Vivek Gupta, Amulya Gupta, and Shivam Gupta, along with three corporate promoter entities. The IPO will follow the book-building route and is proposed to be listed on the BSE and the National Stock Exchange.
