New Delhi: National Conference (NC) MP Mian Altaf, who is the sole representative of his party in the seven all-party delegations travelling to foreign countries, didn't join his group and said that he had informed the government about his unavailability in advance.
Altaf was part of the delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi, which is in Moscow for the first leg of its tour. He was among the handful of leaders from Jammu and Kashmir – the region most affected by the recent conflict with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack – who are part of the all-party delegations, the other politicians from the Union Territory being former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ghulam Ali Khatana, a BJP Rajya Sabha MP, reported Indian Express.
Altaf has said that he will be unable to join the delegation because of his commitment towards annual Urs at his native village.
'There is nothing political about my decision not to be a part of the delegation. The fact is that I informed them (the government) in advance that I can't go. I am the host at the Urs. How do you expect the host to be missing when the guests arrive?' said Altaf.
Altaf, who is the Lok Sabha MP from the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, is a prominent spiritual leader of the Gujjar community of Jammu and Kashmir, and the annual Urs is held at his native village of Wangath to commemorate his great grandfather, who was also a spiritual leader of the Gujjars.

Adityanath directed that information on suspicious firms registered under Central GST (CGST) be shared with the Centre for cancellation of their registration. For firms under State GST (SGST), he ordered in-depth departmental investigations, and if irregularities are found, their registration should be canceled and FIRs lodged. The CM emphasised the need for on-site inspection of all newly registered firms, stating 'fake companies should not be allowed to obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers'. CM Adityanath said that such acts are an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders, which is unforgivable. 'Such inspections are essential to ensure that genuine businesses can operate fairly and without interference,' he said. During the meeting, officials informed the CM that Rs 18,161.59 crore in GST and VAT had been collected during April and May against the financial year 2025-26 target of Rs 1,75,725 crore. Berlin [Germany], June 8 (ANI): Former Union Minister MJ Akbar, who is part of the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, highlighted India's firm stand against terrorism, saying, 'An invading army at the border will not be stopped by eloquence. It will be stopped by military force'. Akbar is currently in Berlin as part of India's diplomatic outreach to explain the country's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. Adressing the Indian diaspora in Germany, Akbar emphasised the unity and power of the nation that has enabled it to defeat terrorism not just within its borders but globally. 'That is the unity, that is the power today, which has defeated the terrorist state of Pakistan not only in Kashmir, not only in Punjab, not only in Rajasthan, but in every frontier across the world. We are ending our mission, this phase of our mission, your mission is only beginning. Please remember that,' Akbar stated. Akbar also praised India's economic growth, citing the World Bank's report, which shows that the number of people living in extreme poverty in India has dropped below 5 per cent. 'We have not only become the fourth largest economy in the world, but last night the World Bank released that those living in hardship poverty in India are less than 5 per cent now. That is the economic growth we want,' he said. Addressing the issue of terrorism, Akbar stressed that military force is necessary to counter invading armies and terrorists. 'An invading army at the border will not be stopped by eloquence. It will be stopped by military force,' he said. 'And that military force has been exhibited and evident to the world since the first attack of October 5 1947. Since then, when 5,000 terrorists came. Till today, thousands of terrorists are coming till today they are being defeated,' he added. Akbar also warned about the global threat of terrorism in the name of religion. 'There will come a time in this century when the world will realise that the challenge before the world is the challenge of terrorism in the name of religion,' he stated. 'Humanity and peace are really what religion teaches, not faith. And a state which encourages or which feeds, breeds and perpetrates violence of the most barbaric and brutal kind in the name of religion doesn't belong to this century,' he added. Meanwhile, BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya said while addressing the Indian diaspora, 'We want Akhand Bharat. PoK was ours. If not today, then tomorrow it will come back to us.' At the start of the community event, the Indian diaspora observed a two-minute silence to pay tributes to people who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation is currently in Berlin. During their visit, the delegation met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and several members of the German Parliament (Bundestag). The delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, includes BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari, MJ Akbar, Gulam Ali Khatana, and Samik Bhattacharya; Congress MP Amar Singh, Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena (UBT), AIADMK MP M Thambidurai and former diplomat Pankaj Saran. The delegation arrived in Germany after concluding their visit to Belgium. Earlier, Ravi Shankar Prasad said they raised strong concerns about terrorism during their visit to Brussels and generals of Pakistan 'run that country with the help of a military terrorist coalition', which is a 'threat' to democracy and humanity. The Indian Armed Forces carried out targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists. Following the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the British foreign secretary strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack while Modi underscored the need for a decisive international action against terrorism and those who support it. 'Appreciate his substantive contribution to the remarkable progress in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, further strengthened by the recently concluded FTA. Value UK's support for India's fight against cross-border terrorism,' the prime minister said in a social media post. Modi described the recent conclusion of the India-UK free trade pact and double contribution convention (DCC) as a 'strategic milestone' that will unlock potential of the partnership in diverse sectors, according to the MEA. 'We practise a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and expect our partners to understand it, and we will never countenance perpetrators of evil being put at par with its victims,' he said. It is understood that the Indian side explained India's challenge of dealing with cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The UK was among countries which were in touch with both India and Pakistan in an attempt to de-escalate their tensions during their military conflict from May 7-10. Lammy paid a two-day visit to Islamabad from May 16 during which he welcomed the May 10 understanding between India and Pakistan to stop the military actions. After the meeting, the British foreign secretary said: 'We are advancing a new era in UK-India relations — boosting trade and technology, tackling the climate crisis and providing greater security for our people.' In his remarks, Jaishankar described the recent conclusion of the India-UK free trade agreement and the double contribution convention as 'truly a milestone which will not only propel our two-way trade and investment but will also have a positive effect on other strategic aspects of our bilateral ties'.
