New England investigators 'not ruling out anything' amid serial killer fears: Former homicide detective
New England authorities are not "ruling out anything" after 11 bodies were found in the region since the beginning of March, a former homicide detective said.
Since March 1, a total of 11 bodies have been found in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts, fueling fears online that there could be a serial killer in the area.
So far, law enforcement officials in New England have denied the presence of a serial killer.
Detectives found the body of Paige Fannon, 35, in the Norwalk River in Norwalk, Connecticut, in early March.

The body of Meggan Meridith, 45, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was found last Tuesday and identified earlier this week.

On March 6, a human skull was discovered in a wooded area off of Route 3 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Authorities have not released any further details.
When speaking to reporters, Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni downplayed concerns that there might be a serial killer.

"While online conversations around these incidents continue to grow, we urge the public to be mindful of the role that social media can play in spreading fear or misinformation," Gulluni said. "Unverified claims can compromise active investigations and contribute to a sense of chaos that does not reflect the full picture."
Former Washington, D.C., homicide detective Ted Williams told Fox News Digital he believes detectives in New England are not ruling anything out.
"The investigators who are conducting these investigations are not ruling out anything whatsoever at this stage of the investigation," Williams said. "They are primarily at the preliminary stages of gathering evidence at each one of these death scenes to try to establish a nexus between those scenes and a single individual or individuals."

"I don't think at this stage they're waving off a serial killer," Williams said.

Williams added that he believes authorities are trying to "connect the dots, if the dots connect" between the locations where the individuals were found.
"Some of these deaths may very well be of not a crime situation. They're trying to make a connection. And the information that they're providing the public is information that they believe the public more or less may need," Williams said.
Fox News contributor and forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden told Fox News Digital, however, that he does not see a pattern between the deaths or where the body was found.

"There really is no quite distinct, clear pattern of all of this," Baden said.

However, instead of being arrested immediately, Fetherston was directed to order Joseph a Lyft ride to another shelter in Worcester County. Joseph was not arrested until eight months in February. In a letter sent to Bondi on Monday, Fetherston said that this was "not an isolated incident" but despite his raising the alarm, "there has been a deliberate wall of silence. No reforms. No accountability. Just more spin, stonewalling, and bureaucratic excuses." "This is a crisis — one that requires federal action now," he said. Fetherston is now asking Bondi to launch a full investigation into criminal activity and sexual violence within Massachusetts-run migrant shelters, widespread fraud and misuse of federal and state funds, the deliberate refusal to coordinate with federal law enforcement agencies and the pattern of retaliation against those reporting abuse, danger or misconduct. Bronx boy, 2, found in NYC waters: sources
THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — The body believed to be a 2-year-old Bronx boy who disappeared last month was found in the water near College Point in Queens on Wednesday, sources said. Little Montrell Williams was last seen on May 10 at his grandmother's house in the Bronx, according to police and the family. Queens Harbor Patrol found the body between Throggs Neck Bridge and LaGuardia Airport, and investigators are waiting for Bronx detectives to identify the body, sources said. NYPD divers had been searching the Bronx River since Monday. The father, Arius Willaims, was caught on surveillance video throwing a bag, possibly with the child inside, into the river, sources said. The boy's father told his mom over the weekend that he had thrown their son into the Bronx River. He also told his mother, Sabrina Williams, the boy was still alive. 'He good. He good. Don't worry about it,' the dad told his mom over the weekend. The 17-year-old mom had not seen her son since May 10. Two days later, she went to family court to report that her son was missing, but a warrant was not issued, sources said. She went back a second time pleading for help, but the outcome was unclear because the records are sealed. The mom then followed Williams after he got on a Manhattan-bound train and pressed him about their child, sources said. Williams, who was previously arrested for beating up the teen, then allegedly pulled a knife on her during the encounter, sources said. Williams was arrested and brought back to the Bronx for questioning, but has not been charged, according to sources. He was then held at Rikers Island for custodial interference. The child's grandmother told PIX11 News she had warned police about Montrell's disappearance, but was told it was legal because he was the father. 'My son kidnapped my grandchild out my house,' she said she told police in an interview with PIX11 News on Tuesday. Her son left with Montrell after a fight at a Mother's Day gathering at the grandmother's home. She begged him to bring the baby back before going to the cops on May 11. Sources said detectives believe the boy was not alive when the grandmother went to police to file a missing person's report because the dad turned up at a family member's home on May 11 without Montrell. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Wednesday the department is investigating how the family's missing report was handled. Karen Read judge cuts off witness who sends 'happy birthday' wish to 10-year-old from stand
The judge overseeing Karen Read's retrial on murder charges in the death of Boston cop John O'Keefe cut off the defense's final witness Wednesday morning after he told jurors he had three children and wished his 10-year-old a happy birthday. "So I was going to say I have three kids, a 9-year-old who's actually turning 10 today – happy birthday Kai – and I have two older ones," said Dr. Andrew John Rentschler, a biomechanical engineer and accident reconstructionist from a firm called ARCCA. "All right, I'm going to, we're going to stop this – [use] another example," said Judge Beverly Cannone after an objection from special prosecutor Hank Brennan. Brennan has repeatedly tried to have Rentschler's testimony blocked or limited. The ARCCA scientists dispute the state's version of events – and have also been accused of destroying text messages with the defense they were ordered to give to prosecutors as well as slow-walking discovery disclosures. Final Defense Witness In Karen Read Trial Pumps Brakes On Lexus Collision Theory Read is accused of mowing down O'Keefe after a night of drinking and leaving him to die as she went to his house and left him raging voicemails as his niece and nephew slept in the home. I think it's his personality," said David Gelman, a Philadelphia-area defense attorney and former prosecutor who is following the trial. "It may have missed the mark, but it's a breath of fresh air since experts are usually boring." Grace Edwards, a Massachusetts trial lawyer who is also following the case, said the judge likely cut Rentschler off because narrative answers can distract from the facts of the case. Karen Read Reveals She Will Not Testify In Her Own Defense "The story can lead to a long answer that could be potentially off-topic or the jury could take from it something else that was not intended, like 'Happy Birthday,' and only remember that part," she told Fox News Digital. "The judge wanted the witness refocused to specific questions with focused answers rather than potentially rambling about his three kids." Follow The Fox True Crime Team On X Rentschler insisted that "details matter" repeatedly as he explained the basics of the scientific method and took issue with another expert report from the firm Aperture, retained by the prosecution. Aperture labeled the injuries to O'Keefe's arm "lacerations," he said – a term that he testified contradicts the findings of the official autopsy, which described them as "superficial abrasions." "Now, a laceration is an actual jagged, ripping or tearing of the skin which gets down through the epidermis into the dermis. So abrasions take much less force. They're less severe than what a laceration actually is." "They're inconsistent with striking the taillight or being produced as a result of contact with the taillight," he testified. The prosecution claims that these minor injuries came from an impact with Read's broken taillight after she allegedly drove into O'Keefe on Jan. 29, 2022 and left him to die on the ground in the snow. The defense denies a collision and has claimed the injuries came from dog teeth and claws.
