Jealous lover traps, murders girl's friend using fake Insta a/c
Nagpur: A chilling tale of jealousy and betrayal unfolded in Nagpur's Pitesure area of Gorewada forest on Saturday night, where 20-year-old hotel management student Aman Dhruvanshi was brutally stabbed to death.
The murder came to light on Sunday.
The prime suspect, Lucky Mendwar, a housekeeper consumed by romantic jealousy, allegedly orchestrated the murder, mistakenly believing Dhruvanshi was a rival for his estranged girlfriend's affection. Mendwar, along with accomplices Sulabh Thakur, Abhishek Katariya, and a minor, has been rounded up, police confirmed.
The incident stemmed from Mendwar's deteriorating relationship with his girlfriend, who had distanced herself from him.
Convinced that her close friend, Dhruvanshi, was the reason for the rift, Mendwar devised a sinister plan. He created a fake Instagram account in his girlfriend's name to lure Dhruvanshi, a Shimla-based student visiting Nagpur for vacation, into a trap. Unaware of the deception, Dhruvanshi, who studied in the same class as the girlfriend, starting interacting with the fake account, believing it was his friend.
Mendwar, acting as his girlfriend, arranged to meet Dhruvanshi at a secluded spot in Gorewada forest on Saturday night.

Mendwar and his minor accomplice abducted Dhruvanshi from the location. Thakur and Katariya, who were also part of the plot, guided them to a remote area in the forest ideal for the crime. There, Mendwar allegedly stabbed Dhruvanshi multiple times, leading to his death. The group fled the scene, leaving the victim's body behind.
The crime came to light when Katariya, reportedly remorseful, tipped off a constable from Mankapur police station on Sunday morning.
By then, Dhruvanshi's family, alarmed by his absence, had arrived at the station to file a missing person report, only to learn of his tragic fate. Police swiftly recovered the body and launched an investigation.
Senior inspector Harish Kaleskar of Mankapur police station confirmed that Mendwar, Thakur, Katariya, and the minor have been detained. "Katariya was part of the plan but alerted us, yet he remains under arrest," Kaleskar said, adding the minor has a previous crime history. The case has shocked Nagpur, highlighting the dangers of jealousy fuelled vengeance and the misuse of social media.

Punjab Police foil target killing plot; 2 aides of Arsh Dalla held
In a major breakthrough, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Mohali, has successfully foiled a major target killing plot by arresting two key operatives of Canada-based terrorist Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla from Dharamkot in Moga district. The arrested persons have been identified as Kawaljit Singh alias Kaka, a resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, and Navdeep Singh alias Honey, a resident of Badduwal village in Moga. During the operation, the SSOC team recovered a Zigana pistol and nine live cartridges from the possession of the accused. Ravjot Grewal, AIG, SSOC, said the arrests were made following a tip-off that Arsh Dalla was planning to eliminate a rival gang member in Faridkot. He had already provided his operatives with arms and specific target details. Based on this input, a case was registered under FIR No. 07 dated June 13, 2025, under Sections 25 and 25(7) of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station SSOC, Mohali. During interrogation, Kawaljit Singh revealed chilling details about the plot. He admitted to being in direct contact with Arsh Dalla, who had tasked him with the assassination and ordered that even the target's family members be eliminated if present. He further disclosed receiving ₹1 lakh as an advance payment and confirmed that logistical support was being provided by Navdeep Singh. Investigations also revealed that Kawaljit had recruited additional associates, and an unidentified individual had already conducted a recce of the target's residence. Amritpal Singh Mehron, accused in Kamal Kaur Bhabhi murder case, flees punjab for UAE; extradition sought
BATHINDA: Amritpal Singh Mehron, the alleged mastermind in the killing of social media influencer Kanchan Tiwari, known as Kamal Kaur 'Bhabhi', fled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) just hours after the crime was committed, according to police on Sunday. A look-out circular (LOC) was issued against the resident of Mehron village in Moga district on Saturday, four days after Kamal Kaur was found dead in a car parked outside Adesh Medical University here on the night of June 11. Investigations revealed that she was murdered around 2 am on June 10. Mehron - who claims to head a radical outfit called 'Qaum De Rakhe' was present with his two accomplices, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, when they strangulated Kamal Kaur, according to Bathinda senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amneet Kondal. Mehron allegedly took both her mobile phones and compelled her to disclose their passwords. He boarded a flight from Amritsar international airport at 9.15 am on the same day, having travelled from Bathinda to Amritsar, the SSP said. The SSP further said that information gleaned from the arrested people, Jaspreet and Nimratjit, confirmed Mehron's presence at the scene of crime. Mehron instructed Jaspreet and Nimratjit to park the vehicle at Adesh University. Jaspreet, upon parking the car, reportedly left the piece of cloth used in the strangulation. Following contact with Mehron, he was instructed to retrieve the item, which he subsequently have also indicated that two more people were aware of the crime. Mehron fled in their vehicle, instructing Jaspreet and Nimratjit to remain with the deceased. Police have nominated one Ranjit Singh from Tarn Taran while the identity of the second person is not yet known. After Mehron's travel history confirmed he took a flight to the UAE on June 10, police said they will prepare a case for his extradition. Apart from the murder case, Mehron also faces two criminal cases of allegedly threatening a producer accused of obscene songs in 2021 in Barnala and another for allegedly vandalising statues of folk dancers at the heritage street near the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 2020. Regarding the claims of sexual exploitation of Kamal, the SSP said police have yet to receive any reports , with the viscera report still awaited.
