Dhofar Khareef visitors cross 1,000,000
Data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information showed that the number of Omani visitors increased by 70.1 percent, recording 734,588 visitors compared to the same period in 2023, when they reached 676,009, while the number of visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries increased by 16.9 percent, recording 176,643 visitors, compared to 161,472 visitors during the same period in 2023.
The number of visitors from other Arab countries also increased by 3.6 percent, recording 37,790 visitors, compared to the same period in 2023, when it was 35,095 visitors.
Statistics showed that the number of visitors to Dhofar Khareef from Asian countries increased by 8.3 percent, reaching about 86,678 visitors, compared to the same period in 2023, which was 78,401 visitors.
The number of visitors coming from European countries also increased by 0.5 percent, reaching about 7,992 visitors, compared to 7,433 visitors recorded in 2023.
The number of visitors from other countries during 2024 reached 4,060, an increase of 0.3 percent over the year 2023, when it was 3,008 visitors.
The number of visitors to the Dhofar Khareef during June 21 to September 21, 2024 via the land port amounted to 794,596 visitors, compared to 722,795 in 2023, while the number of arrivals via flights during the past season amounted to 253,155 visitors, compared to those arriving in the 2023 season, whose number amounted to 239,401 visitors.
Statistics indicated that the number of international flights during June 21 to September 21, 2024 amounted to 103,073, while the number of domestic flights amounted to 150,082 flights.
During the past two years, Dhofar Governorate has witnessed the development and opening of a number of tourism projects with cooperation from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Dhofar Municipality and Omran Group.
These projects included the Darbat and Hamrir views, the Al Mughsayl waterfront, the development of Ain Jarziz, in addition to two tourism projects in the Wilayat of Mirbat, namely the Al Dammar viewpoint and the Aghabeer breather in its first phase, in addition to the development of the Shaat viewpoint in the Wilayat of Rakhyut.
During the Dhofar Autumn Season, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism implemented a number of programmes that contributed to promoting the Dhofar Autumn Tourism Season 2024 by advertising on billboards in the Sultanate of Oman and a number of GCC countries, and hosting influencers and content creators from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, with the aim of covering various tourist events and sites.
It also implemented promotional campaigns for the season through the ministry's social media accounts, announcing the Dhofar Autumn Season through external media channels, and sponsoring events in Dhofar Governorate during the season, in addition to implementing familiarisation trips for tourism offices and companies and media delegations from outside the Sultanate of Oman and implementing the 'Marhaba Dhofar' event for 50 tourism and travel offices and the participation of 16 media professionals, with a total of 65 people from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism stressed that this promotion is an important factor that contributes to attracting tourists from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and various countries of the world and to learn more about the distinctive tourist places and exceptional atmosphere that characterise Dhofar Governorate compared to the rest of the countries of the region.
The ministry explained that the tourism representation offices in both Dubai and Riyadh played a prominent role in increasing the number of flights to Salalah during the past season.

Salalah – Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology will launch the Gulf Green Mobility Forum on August 31 in Salalah, bringing together experts from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to promote environmental sustainability in the transport sector. The event aims to encourage the use of clean and alternative transport methods and facilitate the exchange of expertise on sustainable mobility across the Gulf region. The forum will highlight policies and initiatives designed to achieve net-zero emissions and reduce carbon output in transportation. It also aims to strengthen Gulf integration in low-emission transport and the transition to greener alternatives. Ahead of the forum, the ministry organised a virtual workshop with the GCC General Secretariat, involving representatives from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. It focused on practical outcomes and mechanisms to support sustainable mobility and boost environmental and economic cooperation in the region. To raise awareness locally, Dhofar governorate will host sports and awareness activities for children on August 15 and 16. These include a marathon and a cycling track conducted in a safe environment under specialist supervision. 'The goal is to foster a culture of green mobility from an early age and promote healthy, sustainable lifestyles,' organisers said.

Oman grants visa-free entry to Armenian citizens
Muscat – Oman has included citizens of the Republic of Armenia in its list of countries exempt from entry visa, a move announced during the fifth round of political consultations held in Yerevan on Tuesday. The talks were led by H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in Foreign Ministry, and Vahan Kostanyan, Armenia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. H E Sheikh Khalifa welcomed Armenia's decision to open a resident embassy in Muscat and expressed appreciation for Armenia's recent move to exempt Omani citizens from tourist visa requirements. He informed the Armenian delegation about Oman's reciprocal decision to grant visa-free entry to Armenian nationals. The discussions also covered ways to expand bilateral cooperation across various spheres, including trade, cargo shipment, air communication, IT, education, science, culture and tourism. Both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest. Traffic tests khareef visitors, but Dhofar keeps moving
Salalah – Khareef has once again transformed Dhofar, luring visitors from across Oman, the GCC and parts of Europe. Cool monsoon winds, mist-covered hills and lush landscapes are drawing thousands each week to popular sites such as Wadi Darbat, Mughsail and Prophet Ayub's Tomb. With the seasonal surge in tourists, traffic congestion has become a familiar challenge. The number of vehicles on key routes has steadily increased in recent years, but swift intervention by Royal Oman Police (ROP) has kept delays to a minimum. Police personnel are stationed at major junctions, clearing blockages quickly ensuring traffic flows smoothly. 'Sometimes the cars are bumper-to-bumper, especially near Wadi Darbat,' said Ahmed Khalfan, an Omani bus driver. 'But the police are everywhere and they clear the way fast. This keeps tourists happy and our schedules on track. It's true there has been more traffic in the last few years.' Cars can often be seen winding slowly down roads bordered by greenery. Ambulances are stationed at strategic points to deal with emergencies. At Wadi Darbat and Mughsail, where parking is limited, buses drop passengers about a kilometre from the main sites. Authorities have arranged buggy rides for those who need assistance, a service welcomed by families with children and elderly members. 'I didn't expect to see so many people here,' said Sara Khan, a tourist from Dubai. 'But even with the crowds, it's very organised. The buggies are a great help; my parents didn't have to walk the whole way.' With more promotions, visitor numbers have grown each khareef. 'I came last year and this year again,' said David Johnson, from Abu Dhabi. 'There's definitely more traffic now, but the police seem ready for it. I never felt stuck for long. Last year, the crowd built up in the evenings, but this time people are here for most of the day.' For many, the slow-moving stretches are part of the journey. 'We took a bus from Muscat,' said Arunima Menon. 'Yes, there were slow patches, but nothing unbearable. Once you see the green hills, you forget the delays. People were patient and there was no misbehaviour, impatience, road rage or even honking. Everyone understood and cooperated.'
