Trump says Xi Jinping will visit Washington in ‘not too distant future'
Donald Trump on Monday said his Chinese counterpart,
Xi Jinping , would visit Washington in the 'not too distant future' following recent reports that the leaders were considering a summit as early as April amid their countries' tit-for-tat tariffs dispute.

Trump made the comment while discussing beautification efforts in the American capital during a board meeting at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts of which he assumed the role of chairman last month after firing the previous board members appointed by his predecessor,
Joe Biden
'Here it's really bad, because it's old and bad, and it looks terrible,' Trump said of Washington's highways, adding that Xi would be 'coming in the not too distant future'.
Remarking that Washington looked 'very good' during his first presidential term, Trump suggested the city should be cleaned up, particularly removing homeless encampments and graffiti in preparation for Xi's potential visit.

Earlier this month, the Post cited multiple sources in reporting that Trump could visit China
as early as next month , although dates were yet to be finalised.

Trump was said to have wanted Xi to visit his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where the two leaders had previously met in 2017. However, Beijing preferred a more formal setting, either in Washington or by inviting Trump to China.

North Korea has dispatched more than 10,000 troops to support Russia's campaign in western Russia in the Ukraine conflict and is believed to be planning another deployment, according to a South Korean intelligence assessment. File photo: Reuters Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref said on Tuesday that nuclear negotiations with the United States can be held directly under favourable conditions, according to the official news agency IRNA. "Iran is ready to negotiate under equal conditions as negotiation is for safeguarding both parties' interests," Aref told reporters. "If the conditions are suitable, the negotiations can be held even directly," he said. Aref noted that Iran is in no way opposed to negotiations, but will not acquiesce to negotiations that only impose the intentions of the United States. Iran has told the United States that it is willing to build trust, "but it seems as if they (the Americans) are feigning sleep," he said. Certain Western countries have falsely turned Iran's nuclear issue into a political project, Aref said, adding that "the zero enrichment scheme is a big joke." On June 13, two days prior to the sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, Israel launched major airstrikes on several areas in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists and many civilians. Iran responded with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks on Israel. On June 22, US forces bombed the three Iranian nuclear facilities of Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. In retaliation, Iran struck the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Following the 12-day war, a ceasefire between Iran and Israel was achieved on June 24.
