Akmal Nasir, Lee Chean Chung and others to know outcome of objections to PKR poll results next week
Dr Zaliha, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), said the committee is currently awaiting reports before making a final decision.
'It will take time as we need to thoroughly review all objections and complaints before coming to a conclusion.
'There are several objections involving divisional results and we will announce the outcome next week,' she told reporters after the launch of the Warisan KL: Warisan Ibu Kota Malaysia MADANI project by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, here today.
Yesterday, Dr Zaliha said any objections and appeals submitted by PKR leaders over the divisional-level election results would be assessed by the Complaints Committee and the Appeals Committee before further action is taken.
She said the Complaints Committee, chaired by Datuk Ahmad Kassim, will evaluate all objections and complaints, while the Appeals Committee, chaired by Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar, will handle appeals.
Among those who have filed formal objections with the JPP is Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, following his defeat in the contest for the Johor Bahru division chief post.
Other leaders who have taken similar steps include PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung (Petaling Jaya), deputy information chief Chua Wei Kiat (Selayang), and Sungai Siput MP Kesavan Subramaniam, who has lodged an official appeal with the JPP after narrowly losing in the Sungai Siput division.

To fly the Jalur Gemilang upside down is an insult to the dignity of our beloved nation, but a hardware store owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, has done exactly that. And to do that just weeks before the country celebrates its National Day is like stabbing the very heart of the nation. Insult a man's dignity, he may forgive you. But insult the dignity of the nation, which the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of, he will neither forgive you nor forget the disrespectful act. So will not the nation. The proof of this is the numerous police reports lodged around the country by loyal Malaysians and statements issued by national leaders. Disturbed as he was, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang took to X, urging the police to take firm action against the offender, stressing the need for the action to serve as a lesson to all. Flying the flag correctly is every citizen's responsibility as a sign of respect and love for the country, Bernama quoted him as saying. He is right. To fly the Jalur Gemilang incorrectly is to seek to blemish the sovereignty, dignity and unity of the nation. Such an abhorrent act mustn't be tolerated. Strongly worded condemnation was also issued by Penang PKR Youth chief Muhammad Zakwan Mustafa Kamal in a statement on Saturday. He said the act of flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down was disrespectful, irresponsible, and an insult to the dignity of the nation. He said if the act was proven to be deliberate, no compromise should be shown. We say the same, too. Zakwan also called on the hardware store owner to issue a public apology to all Malaysians. As this Leader goes to press, no such apology has been issued. The police are saying that there is a case for prosecution. The hardware shop owner, who was detained on Sunday and released on police bail later, is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. If there is a case for prosecution, it is high time the authorities bring to bear the full brunt of the law on him to show how serious an insult to the dignity of the nation is. There have been far too many cases in the past, many of the culprits feigning ignorance. Utter incredulity must be the response. Even in the past, it wasn't the act of one who hadn't come of age. Or the act of one who suffered from some disease of the mind. Though the past acts showed clear disrespect for the dignity of the nation, we chose to adopt a softly, softly approach. The Kepala Batas incident proves to the authorities that such an approach was wrong. Nay it might have even encouraged it. If what the police investigation is saying is right, then the full brunt of the law must be brought to bear on him. Even ordinary crime demands punishment. Insulting the symbol of the dignity of a nation is no ordinary crime. As severe as it is, so must the punishment be.

Equal preschool funding vital before compulsory roll-out, says MP
KUALA LUMPUR: Rasah Member of Parliament Cha Kee Chin has urged the government to ensure equal funding for all schools to set up preschool facilities ahead of the rollout of compulsory preschool education. He said this measure was essential to prevent lower-income families from being financially burdened when sending their children to preschool. "We must consider this matter carefully. I urge that, before making preschool education compulsory, the government first allocates sufficient funding for preschool facilities. "Secondly, ensure that all schools, whether government or government-aided, receive equal funding to set up preschool classes before the implementation, so that it is fair to all parents. "We do not want a situation where families who cannot afford it are forced to send their children to private schools," he said during the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) debate in the Dewan Rakyat today. Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 13MP, announced that the government would make preschool education compulsory from the age of five to improve educational outcomes. He said the government would also review optimal school hours, assess the effectiveness of specialised schools, and enhance education models for gifted and talented students. Cha also called for improvements to the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) in schools, in line with the Prime Minister's statement during the tabling of the 13MP that there was a need to strengthen support for children with disabilities. He said the plan to establish PPKI classes in 34 existing schools nationwide was a positive step, but the number remained too small. "I urge that this number be increased significantly. Are there any plans under the 13MP to establish PPKI classes in schools in the Rasah constituency? There are schools here that do not yet have PPKI classes," he said.

Nearly 100,000 Malaysians became Singaporeans over past decade, Parliament told
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — A total of 97,318 Malaysians have reportedly renounced their citizenship to become citizens of Singapore between 2015 and June 2025, the Home Ministry told Parliament today. According to The Star, the ministry said in a written reply to Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN–Kota Bharu) that there were 7,394 renunciations in 2015, 8,654 in 2016, and 7,583 in 2017. The number rose to 7,665 in 2018 before jumping to 13,362 in 2019. It dropped to 5,591 in 2020, but climbed to 7,956 in 2021 and 5,623 in 2022. The figure surged again to 11,500 in 2023 and reached its highest level in 2024 with 16,930. This year, as of June 30, 6,060 Malaysians have made the change. Malaysia has long battled a significant brain drain, with an estimated 1.86 million Malaysians relocating abroad over the past five decades prompting the establishment of TalentCorp to encourage skilled returnees.
