Major update in tragic ‘Ghost Children' case after siblings, 9 & 6, found in forest ‘wearing nappies & unable to speak'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO "ghost" kids found living in squalor in the woods unable to speak after severe neglect are to be put up for adoption, the authorities said. The pair's father allegedly cut them off from the world after becoming "obsessed" with Covid, but they were discovered in the northern Italian countryside by horrified cops. They had never been officially registered and were completely off-grid - prompting the "ghost children" label from local media. Their dad, named only as 54-year-old Dutch national Frederik, claimed he isolated them in their "bunker" home near Lauriano to prevent them from catching Covid. He insisted they were being home-schooled in English and Italian using material he found online after the kids were discovered in April, it is understood. Frederik also claimed that he had been intending to register the kids - but never got round to it. The dad said: "I'm not a paranoid person who wants to hide from the world. I just enjoy doing things alone and spending time with my family." However, his explanations for keeping his children in miserable isolation have not convinced the authorities. They were initially taken into state care, and now it has been confirmed they will be put up for adoption. It's unclear whether this will allow regular prospective parents to take custody of the children - whether it will lead to them being put into specialist care. Frederik told local newspaper Corriere Torino: "My wife and I provide them with everything they need. Lag chillingly said 'that's for Sarah Payne' after knifing her evil killer in bloodbath 'revenge attack' in prison cell "They have lots of toys, each their own laptop, lots of musical instruments and their own ski equipment. "They go pony riding at the stables and spend a lot of time outdoors in restaurants and museums." The children were reportedly born in Germany before being moved over to a town in Turin. Harrowing images of the ramshackle farm show random broken and abandoned furniture thrown outside and derelict trampolines that had clearly been left to rot. Rubbish was also captured strewn across the garden. The reclusive family was only discovered when cops arrived at their hillside farm to evacuate them after a flooding alert. 5 The kids were only discovered when authorities visited the house to issue a flood warning Credit: Newsflash 5 Picture shows the area where the children lived, undated. (Newsflash/NX) Credit: Newsflash The Turin Juvenile Court ordered the immediate removal of the children from their parents. It said in its ruling: "There are facts that suggest that the minors are deprived of adequate assistance from their parents or relatives who are required to provide it." During the removal process, concerns were raised about their mum, who is said to have shown little interest in her own kids, NL Times reports. It's thought she is homeless, the site added. Local mayor Mara Baccolla said: "It is a very delicate matter. "These children can finally find a balance and have access to a life worthy of the name." She also reportedly spoke of meeting the dad once and described him as being "very reserved" who was unable to speak Italian. Residents of the town near the farm shared their shock at learning of the children's existence.

Source: Instagram 'Dick and Tweety were also role models in their loving relationship,' she penned. 'When we looked at them, they were still that much in love.' She revealed that the couple were kind and welcoming when meeting them for the first time. Sumner also highlighted how Eastland was a selfless character, who would put the needs of others first. 'It doesn't surprise me at all that his last act of kindness and sacrifice was working to save the lives of campers,' she wrote. Ann Conner Yarbrough Armitage also wrote how it wasn't a surprise Eastland would try to save the lives of the children. ' He was so approachable, he always remembered my name, he was positive, kind and he loved his family,' she wrote on Facebook. 'This is an unspeakable loss.' Texas lawmaker August Pfluger also paid a glowing tribute to Eastland for his bravery. 'Camp Mystic's Dick Eastland no doubt gave his life attempting to save his campers,' he wrote on X. 'Thank you Mr. Eastland. We love you and miss you.' Camp Mystic officials have confirmed that 27 campers and counselors have died. Around 750 kids were at the camp when the floods hit, according to cops in Kerr County. VICTIMS IDENTIFIED Janie Hunt, who is related to Clark Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, is among those who have been killed. Eloise Peck, eight, and nine-year-old Lila Bonner have also been identified as among the victims. Sisters Blair and Brooke Harber were holding tightly onto each other when their bodies were found - 15 miles downriver, according to their school St. Rita Catholic Community. Brooke was described as an accomplished basketball and soccer player, while Blair was an avid member of the yearbook team. Blair was looking forward to starring in the 8th grade play, according to the school. The sisters sent their parents a final text saying: 'I love you,' before they drowned. Blair and Brooke's parents were staying in another cabin near Hunt. High school coach Reece Zunker and his wife, Paula, also died in the floods, while dad-of-two Julian Ryan was killed trying to save his family. Meanwhile, survivors have recalled the chaos that unfolded as the cabins were being flooded. Campers were washed away within minutes, Amanda Sue Jones told CNN. 'It was just immeasurably fast,' she added. Piers and Ruffin Boyett swam out of their cabins when it was flooding. "The cabins were flooding and the walls, they broke down," Piers told the ABC affiliate KSAT-TV. DEBRIS IN THE RIVER Volunteers taking part in the rescue mission have told how debris is slowing down the efforts. One person coined the operation 'nonstop turning and burning,' per CNN. Nick Sortor, who is part of Louisiana's United Cajun Navy, revealed pathways had to be created for rescue boats to access. Sortor said the river was filled with obstacles - some of which had to be chainsawed. Search teams have had to navigate snakes and debris as they comb the river. Meanwhile, Scott Ruskan, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, has been credited with saving 165 people, as reported by Good Morning America. He helped usher between 10 and 15 children at a time to helicopters, so they could be taken to safety. Kids were escorted onto Black Hawk UH-60 and MH-65 Dolphin aircraft to higher ground. Ruskan explained how he was trying to keep the children calm during the high-stakes rescue mission. He revealed that many of the survivors were without shoes and in their pajamas when they were evacuated, per The New York Post. Kristi Noem, the Director of Homeland Security, described Ruskan, who joined the Coast Guard in 2021, as an 'American hero,' saying he showed 'selfless courage.' Officials at the National Weather Service have come under scrutiny and they have defended their flood warnings and forecasts. The area that was impacted in Texas Hill Country is known as flash flood alley. Flood risks in areas of central Texas have been upgraded. Officials have warned that regions could be vulnerable to flash floods. 7 Towels and other clothes seen hanging on a clothes line Credit: AFP 7 Search and rescue workers seen wading through the waters Credit: Getty 7 Remnants of a Camp Mystic mailbox that was swept away Credit: AP

Moment son jokes about ‘Christmas present from dad' before beating him to death in street and screaming ‘he's dead'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS is the chilling moment a son joked about a "Christmas present from dad" before beating him to death in the street. Disturbing CCTV footage revealed how killer John Sarawanskyj bought a bottle of Jack Daniels with his father's card on the morning of his murder. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 John Sarawanskyj was sentenced to life imprisonment after murdering his own father Credit: Merseyside Police 5 Sarawanskyj shouted in the street "he's dead, he's dead, he's dead" moments after the horror 5 The callous killer also withdrew £200 using his dad's card Sarawanskyj visited VK Saba Wines on Churchill Avenue, in Southport, Merseyside, six times the same day. On his first trip at around 7.45am, he told the shopkeeper: "I've been up all night me." Later that day, Sarawanskyj withdrew £200 using his dad's card, as reported by the Echo. And after returning for the fifth time, the 52-year-old bought a bottle of honey Jack Daniels and said: "That's my Christmas present off my dad. He doesn't know yet. He will do when I get home. He's gonna kill me. Look what I've just got for my Christmas present." CCTV from a property nearby later captured Sarawanskyj yelling in the street "He's dead. He's dead. He's dead". The killer is then heard telling a pal: "He's dead. I'm worried about my dog. What are you worried about him for?" His haunting words came after Sarawanskyj brutally beat his 73-year-old dad to death. Ivan Sarawanskyj was found with "extensive injuries" inside his home on Braemar Avenue on December 22 last year. His son confessed to a neighbour after the horror how he "jumped all over his dad's head". He also callously told the emergency services: "I'm not bothered he's dead. He wasn't a nice man." The father and son had been embroiled in arguments regarding John Sarawanskyj's dog Zeus. He claimed Ivan had killed the America bulldog, which left him "deeply upset". A jury at Liverpool Crown Court heard Sarawanskyj had lied to police several times after his father's fatal injuries. He originally denied being at the property at all, but his argument later changed to self-defence. The 53-year-old was last week sentenced to life, with a minimum of 15-years, after being convicted of his father's murder. Sentencing, Judge Brian Cummings KC said the evidence "was overwhelming". "He was an alcoholic and I suspect you were too, despite your evidence to the contrary," he told Sarawanskyj. "The victim was, at the time of his death, a frail old man. He was 73 years old, 5ft5in tall and weighed eight-and-a-half stone. You, in addition to being 21 years younger, were significantly bigger and more robust, 6ft tall and 13st in weight." The judge told how neighbours had often reported hearing shouting between the pair, and how they shared a "difficult relationship". "There was clear evidence during the trial that he had treated you cruelly and brutally during your childhood and early adulthood," the judge continued. "I am sure, on the evidence, that you struck your father with multiple heavy blows to his upper body, as well as to his head. "Internally, he had injuries including serious brain damage. The pathologist's evidence was that the victim lay dying, probably for several hours, in a semi conscious state, before finally succumbing to the injuries that you had inflicted upon him." Speaking about the verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall said: "This was a truly appalling domestic murder of a vulnerable man in his own home. Ivan was described as an elderly, frail old man, who appeared older than his age. Ivan tragically died at the hands of his son in a sustained and abhorrent attack. 'As the court heard, the father-son relationship had deteriorated following the death John's dog. "Despite his refusal to take responsibility for his actions, the jury unanimously found him guilty. 'John Sarawanskyj lost his father due to his own actions, and the choices he made that day have now also cost him his liberty. He will spend a significant period in prison where I hope he reflects on the devastation he has caused.' Det Chief Insp Nuttall added: 'The overwhelming majority of domestic abuse is committed by men against their partners. But this case shows in the starkest possible terms that there are many forms of domestic abuse and that they can have fatal consequences. 'We treat all reports of domestic abuse extremely seriously, targeting offenders and supporting vulnerable victims all year round. 'If you are a victim of domestic abuse or believe a neighbour or someone you know is, please let us know so that we can investigate and take action.' 5 A jury at Liverpool Crown Court heard Sarawanskyj had lied to police several times after his father's fatal injuries
