Leeds star insists Daniel Farke's side must aim to be 'the fittest team in the Premier League' in order to avoid immediate Championship return
Leeds have spent most of the first fortnight of pre-season at their Thorp Arch training base, before drawing 0-0 against Man Utd in a friendly in Stockholm on Saturday.
Daniel Farke 's side now travel to Germany for a week, where they will play two friendlies behind closed doors as part of a warm-weather training camp.
'The intensity (in pre-season) has been a lot harder this year, which you'd expect coming back to prepare for the Premier League,' said Byram.
'There's obviously not as many games as there is in the Championship but for us, fitness is going to be huge. If we can be the fittest team in the league, then it can only help us. So it's something that everyone's been working really hard on - there's a lot of tired legs and tired bodies but we're through the second week and looking forward to the camp,' the Leeds defender added.
Tactically, Byram insists that Farke's style will be similar to the possession-based football that saw Leeds win the Championship last season, with a record-breaking 100 points.
'It (the football) will be very similar to last season,' he said. 'The style of football we want to play - possession based, that's in our DNA and that's how we want to play. It's a huge step up and it's obviously a much more competitive league so there's obviously areas that you can't play the same as in the Championship but it's something we've been working on since day one,' added Byram.
And with the last six promoted teams all going straight back down to the Championship, Byram stressed that he and his teammates are already aware of the challenge that lies ahead. The 31-year-old signed a new one-year deal with his boyhood club earlier this month.
'We're not under any illusion. We know how hard it is to stay in the Premier League,' said Byram. 'This season, we've got a lot more time to prepare for each game so to have for the most part, a full week to prepare will be very beneficial. Every single point matters and we'll do everything to get as many points as we can.'
Leeds begin their return to the Premier League with Everton travelling to Elland Road on Monday August 18.

The last thing Alex wants if he is not playing is to be sat in the stand and under that scrutiny, then if he wasn't going to play today, we mutually agreed he shouldn't be here,' said Howe. 'It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow with us, but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him. I've had discussions with him, but that's not abnormal. 'I respect a player's career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he's trained really well and I realise there'll be noise around him. We have a few of those players who are irreplaceable. James Wade says he'll be blacklisted from Premier League as he accuses PDC of favouritism
James Wade has been in excellent form in recent weeks, but the Machine does not think he will be able to force his way into the Premier League regardless of his performances James Wade thinks he has no chance of forcing his way into Premier League Darts again. Wade began his World Matchplay campaign in excellent fashion at the weekend. He dispatched Joe Cullen 10-3 while averaging 104.44, the highest-ever three-dart average he has ever produced on the Winter Gardens stage. The Machine has also moved up three places to No. 5 in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Order of Merit, which means he is knocking on the door of next year's Premier League. The top four players are automatically included in the lucrative competition, while the other four slots are decided by Sky Sports and the PDC, who have previously admitted to factoring in the marketability and popularity of players for those places. The 11-time major winner won the Premier League in 2009, but has not competed in the competition since 2022, where he finished third in the table to reach finals night. But even if he does manage to catch Stephen Bunting, who is currently fourth in the order of merit, he thinks the PDC would alter the rules to keep him out. I'm an awkward character. I probably don't say the right things at the right times. "If I was great at saying the right things at the right time, I probably would've been in all the World Series the last 12 months. But I don't quite fit into that mould. "There's other players that do manage to get those things and unfortunately, I don't. I'd love to travel the world. I've been doing it for 25 years. "Do you not think I want to travel the world? Do you not think I want to represent the PDC? Do you not think I want my children and my wife to see me do great things? 'If anything, it crushes me. It crushes me. Why wouldn't it crush me? I'm perhaps not getting what I maybe could have got. So, it's exhausting not to be in that. "But I'll keep trying as hard as I can. I want to be in it all. I want to be part of it all. Of course, I do because when you're not in it, you feel like a lemon.' Wade next faces Wessel Nijman in round two in Blackpool. The Dutchman caused a huge shock in the first round when he ousted Nathan Aspinall, who reached the semi-final stages at the O2 Arena in this year's Premier League campaign, 10-6 in their opening round encounter.
